Chapter 7 He Can't Afford It

"This lobster omelet sounds delicious. I'll order one for each of us. If any of you wants some more, just tell the waiter," Brian said calmly.

The others, on the other hand, were far from calm. A single serving of lobster omelet cost a thousand dollars. There were a dozen people present, which meant it would cost over ten thousand dollars!

Now that he had money, Brian was much more confident than before. He didn't even know how these dishes tasted. After all, he had never eaten any of them before.

Thinking about the sea of money in his private vault, he felt complacent. Brian's grin grew wider as he said, "Actually, I want everything on this page of the menu."

His words were like a bolt from the blue shocked everyone speechless.

The waiter happily took note of their orders and announced, "The total bill is $55, 799 now."

Kim thought that Brian was bluffing. He teased, "Wow, how many bottles were you able to sell today? Look how generous you are now!"

Brian was doomed! Everyone thought so.

Maggie anxiously grabbed Brian's arm to put a stop to this. If he ordered anything more, she might not be able to cover it.

She hissed in a low voice, "Brian, you'd better cancel some of your orders. Kim is just joking around!"

Afraid that Brian might go back on his word, Kim hurriedly said, "I'm not kidding, Maggie. A man should keep his word. Of course, if Brian admits that he's not a man, then it's fine!"

"You're crossing a line, Kim!" Maggie bit her red lip anxiously.

Brian smiled and patted Maggie's shoulder comfortingly. "It's okay, Maggie. Thank you very much for your concern. This meal is on me!"

When Maggie heard this, all the color drained from her face. She knew that she couldn't change his mind, so she gave up. But she couldn't stop herself from worrying. She really didn't want to see Brian ruin his own self in order to stand up to that wretched Kim!

Just then, Jeanne glanced at Maggie and then said meaningfully to Brian, "Oh, and they don't accept bottles as currency here. You've ordered so much food. If you can't pay for it in the end, you'd better be ready to face the consequences yourself. Don't get Kim into trouble."

Brian didn't flinch at her threats. Instead, he smiled and said calmly, "Well, if you think that Mr. Percival can't afford it, just forget it."

Jeanne's face froze. How could she tolerate Brian's provocation? She spat angrily, "Being poor is making you ignorant. Even if you ordered ten times more food, Kim can afford it!"

At her words, Kim's heart leaped to his throat. He only had fifty thousand dollars in his pocket!

What the hell was this stupid woman talking about? Why did she involve him when talking big?

However, Kim couldn't afford to lose face and pretended to be indifferent. "It's just a meal. Of course it's no big deal."

Little did everyone know that he was not so confident.

For good measure, Kim immediately said to the waiter, "Mr. Tennant and I will split the bill for this meal 50-50. Do you understand?"

"Of course, sir." The waiter nodded politely.

Just then, Brian spoke up. "We can't have food without drinks, right? Mr. Percival must know a lot about alcohol. Please order a few bottles for us."

Holding Kim's arm, Jeanne rolled her eyes at Brian sarcastically. "Kim, I'm sure this loser has never even seen good quality alcohol before. Let's help him widen his horizon."

But truth be told, Kim was in no mood to look at the drink list at all. He already knew the price of the alcohol here. The cheapest one was around $1888 per bottle. The good one was at least $8000!

He could afford one or two bottles of good alcohol, but there were more than a dozen people present. How could two bottles suffice?

"Kim, show this pauper how real rich men live!"

"I'm sure that the alcohol in this place isn't good enough for Kim Percival!"

"That's right! Why else would he stare at the menu for so long? It's obvious that he doesn't like any of the options!"

"Kim, don't bother yourself. Just order a few bottles of alcohol that cost seven or eight thousand dollars. Show this bumpkin what's up!"

The people in the room cheered Kim on, one after another. Nobody noticed that Kim's face had turned livid.

Seeing that Kim was very hesitant, Brian took the opportunity to provoke him further. "Forget it. The alcohol here is quite expensive. I'd understand if you can't afford it."
