Chapter 9 The Wrong Side Of History

Lyra's POV.

I thought I brought my misfortune upon myself, but finally, I found out I didn't. One moment I was my Alpha's favorite person in the world, the next-he rejected me, harshly!

"I hereby reject you Lyra because you are a witch! Take the crown off her Cullen."

Alpha Orion's cold voice sounded in my mind. Few days ago, I had watched myself shed tears,

Publicly!

"Luna Lyra, please can you quicken your pace?"

Cullen said politely. I quickly returned my mind to the present moment. I could tell that Cullen was tired and famished as I was, but he had kept his pace down to walk at mine, yet I still lagged behind.

He had held out his hand to me several times but I kept refusing vehemently. He was my husband's beta, he watched my body being thrown to the forest crows as dinner. He could have flaunted Orion's order, he could have stopped his men but....he didn't.

"I am trying dude! But this freaking body is too fragile."

I threw out the word to him.

I actually detest my present vulnerable state. I have this damn fireball ability, but it couldn't be of help to me right now. I wasn't even certain if changing to my wolf would work, I haven't felt her since i changed into this new body,

Perhaps she was a mere human?

That would be terrible.

"Would you hold my hand Lyra?"

Lyra! I swallowed hard. Cullen had just erased my Luna tittle, or probably I heard him wrongly.

We were never close, never really that close. I was his queen, he used to answer to Orion and I. How dare he talk to me in a familiar tone like that.

I was pissed, but I was too cowardly to show it, not yet.

"We have been walking around in this damn forest for long, I thought you said you saw the pack house from afar?"

I said raising my brow at him. I needed to stay focused, I should maintain my composure. I was grateful to Cullen for coming to save me, but he wasn't entirely innocent either. I was going to wait it out before I could trust him fully,

If I don't get betrayed before that though.

"Luna Lyra, I am sorry, I also noticed we have been walking in circles for ages. I am not yet certain of what we are missing out on."

I placed my hand on my chest folding it together. The moon goddess was obviously being mean. She made him my guidance, a man that barely knows his own way.

Now we are both stuck in the wilderness.

Cullen didn't leave. He stood there with his outstretched hand.

I was taken aback by his actions, our eyes met just as it did few days ago when he removed the crown from my head. He was following Orion's order as the pack's Alpha. I knew he wasn't meant to refute his orders, but I desperately wished he did that moment.

My brows furrowed slightly at the memory,

I got more pissed and walked away from him towards the likely pathway. Cullen sigh deeply and followed suit.

I was being harsh! I know that!

But everyone at Blue Moon pack deserves a cold shoulder from me, don't they?

"Lyra watch out!!!"

I felt a strong hand push me aside and I fell on my left side. It took quite some effort to regain my balance. I looked to my left and saw Cullen stabbing a cobra. His wolf had surfaced, his claws slashing its body while the dagger held it in place.

It was a really gruesome sight.

I watched as my eyes was laced with shock. I was always a she-wolf, but my brutality can never match that of a pack beta and lead warrior.

The snake was killed! Totally deformed.

Cullen stopped brutalizing it, he turned to face me, I felt my heart leap, was it of gratitude or fear?

That wasn't worrisome enough but his eyes....they weren't meant to be-red!

"Lyra, let's go." He said in more of a growl than voice.

I could tell his wolf was still in control, but what baffles me was the fact that even his wolf wouldn't address me by my Luna tittle.

What the heck am I missing out here?

I managed to get up keeping my grudge to myself. Cullen had just saved my life-or to say what was left of it, I should be grateful at least.

We walked on through the forest, i kept up my pace with his. I didn't complain anymore, I just had to play by his rules. Since the encounter with the Cobra, I had crawl back to my silence. I knew I wasn't weak, but I am yet to get a hang of this new body.

Even my new magical powers were still a new turf for me. Cullen kept his wolf afloat. I could tell they were both in control of his body at the moment. He kept throwing occasional glances my way as he walked but I pretended not to notice.

I was more bewildered by something else,

The color of his eyes!

It was totally impossible, probably I am being mistaken, but I was still very bothered by it.

Cullen sniffed the air.

"I can smell some meat up ahead, we can set up a tent and rest there tonight."

I didn't respond orally, I nodded my head in agreement. I knew I wasn't talking to a man right now, the wolf in him was a warrior, so I knew he wouldn't take any disrespect from me.

We walked up and as he said, we ended up with dinner in the open fire ball flame I made. Our collaboration was productive, Cullen haunted and I roasted the meat.

I was so glad, the moon goddess's fortification was amazing.

Cullen had returned into his humanity, but he seemed more withdrawn from me than earlier. My mind was troubled by the sudden change in him. He kept himself away from me while we both sat round the open fire.

Imagination took over my mind, what was to come, the journey ahead, facing my alter ego, Orion's charade. I was more powerful than I used to be, but I still haven't mastered anything yet asides from the fireballs I could pro

duce,

Was I really ready to face the witch Ember?

"Luna Lyra, there is something I have to tell you."
