Chapter 8 Our Maid Sara

"Shanel its okay. You won't go hungry when i'm here okay?" Said Sara

"Why are you kind to me?" Asked Shanel

"Because you are so sweet and i can't let a sweet girl like you starve as i watch" said Sara.

"Aunt Sara thank you. I'm sorry i've been cruel to you" said Shanel

"No i don't blame you dear. Come with me" said Sara.

"Where to?" Asked Shanel

"To have your food to satisfaction" said Sara and carried Shanel in her arms.

"Aunt, this is Eden's room. I'm not allowed to go there" said Shanel

"No one will tell them that you got in Eden's room" said Sara

"But Eden is not a good kid. They say he is a murderer so we should all stay away from him" said Shanel

"Murderer? Who did he kill? He is so innocent to do that" said Sara

"My mommy told me that. I don't know anything else" said Shanel

"Well, there is no proof that he killed anyone so why should we judge poor Eden? Have you ever sat down and talked to Eden?" Asked Sara and Shanel shook her head to mean no.

"Then why don't you get to know him first? If he is a bad kid, i'll never allow you next to him. But if he is a nice kid, you'll always have extra food with him and play with him. He is such a lonely boy" said Sara pouting her lips.

"Don't be sad aunt Sara, i'll play with him if you say so" said innocent Shanel and Sara took her in.

"Sister Sara why did you bring her here? Mrs Mehta will ground her if she finds out" said Eden looking worried.

"See Shanel, he is worried about you. Is he a bad kid now?" Asked Sara

"He is a good one. Like you" said Sara

"Sister Sara what if Mrs Mehta finds out?" Asked Eden

"No one will tell her. Right Shanel?" Asked Sara

"Right" said Shanel and gave a high give with Sara.

"Now listen to me the two of you. You are siblings and you should love each other. You have to stand up for each other. From today Shanel, you'll be having extra meals in this room with me and Eden. No one should find out. This is our little secret" said Sara

"Okay aunt/ sister Sara " they both said in unison.

"Have your food now. I'm going to make a call for the deal we made Eden. I'll be back" said Sara and went out.

"What deal did you make?" Asked Shanel

"Don't tell anyone about this. Sister Sara is planning to hire an online tutor for me. I will start learning again" he said

"I want to learn too" said Shanel

"But you are yet to join kindergarten" said Eden

"Can't aunt Sara teach me some words and counting?" Asked Shanel

"I'll talk to her then. If she agrees, she'll teach you. She is so bright" said Eden.

"Really? Thank you" said Shanel and hugged Eden happily.

He was almost in tears when that happened.

Shanel was a little huggy girl and she gave really warm hugs.

"Shanel i need a favour" said Eden

"Tell me" she said

"Please don't tell Sister Sara that we are not real siblings. I Don't want her to feel pity for me" he said

"On one condition" said Shanel

"What? I'll give you all my food if you want" said Eden

"Aunt Sara has prepared food for me already so i don't need that" she said

"What do you need then?" Asked Eden getting impatient.

"I just want you to be my big brother. You seem to be nice" said Shanel and Eden couldn't hold his tears again.

"Are you serious?" He asked in the middle of tears.

"You are so emotional. I mean it. I don't know how it feels like to have a big brother that can play with me everyday. I want to know how it feels now that you are here" said Shanel

"Done! I'll be your big brother and i'll play with you" said Eden and they hugged again.

"But why does mom call you a murderer?" Asked Shanel.

"I did not kill her. It was a mistake" said Eden

"I trust you but you have to explain everything to me" said Shanel.

"Grow alittle older, then i'll tell you everything. Come here, sit on my laps. I'd love to carry my sister" said Eden

"But won't your legs hurt?" Asked Shanel

"They are strong enough to carry my sister" he said and Shanel sat on his laps and slept on his chest.

"But why can't you walk?" Asked Shanel

"Grow alittle older then i'll tell you" he said

"Eat something" he said and fed some sandwiches to her.

They were both very happy.

"Eden, this is the first time i'm seeing you in person. Mum showed me your picture once" said Shanel

"I've always seen you playing at the garden with your friend Gwen. I'm always at my window looking at you" said Eden

"Now we are here together. We'll get to know each other well. Let me feed you too" said Shanel and fed a sandwich to Eden.

He was very very happy.

Sara slightly opened the door and saw the little girl on his lap and she smiled.

Eden turned to the door and saw her peeping.

"Thank you" he whispered and she smiled.

"God, atleast i see some light. Thank you" said Sara and got in.

"Did you guys leave some for me?" Asked Sara

"They are plenty! Aunt Sara see, my big brother is carrying me on his lap. He has strooong legs" said Shanel happily.

"I told you he isn't a bad guy" said Sara

"Yes he is not. I love him" said Shanel

"What did the teacher say?" Asked Eden

"He agreed. We'll begin as from tommrow at 8am" said Sara

"Yeay! Aunt Sara, i want to learn some counting too before i join kindergarten" said Shanel

"Yes sister, i know you can teach her some counting" said Sara

"Okay baby we'll do that whenever i'm free. You'll be a genius when you join kindergarten" said Sara and Shanel got down to hug her.

"You are a little cupid with warm hugs" said Sara

"I've not given hugs for a while. It feels good to hug someone like this" said Shanel happily.
