Chapter 6 Cloudside

Upon exiting the law firm, Declan turned to Gemma and said, "Miss Davis, I'd like to extend my sincere gratitude for today."

Gemma blinked and offered a warm smile. "There's no need to thank me. I didn't do anything. If anyone deserves gratitude, it's you. Thank you for alleviating my stubborn ailment that has persisted for years."

Just then, Benjamin, who was standing nearby, chimed in, "Miss Davis, the mayor's waiting for you at home. Should we head back?"

When Gemma heard this, a frown formed on her face.

Meanwhile, Declan got the hint and took the initiative. "Since you have something urgent to deal with, you should head back now, Miss Davis."

"Yeah, I should. Sorry about that. But Mr. Harrison, it wouldn't sit right with me if you were left wandering, considering your bad leg. Let me give you a ride home."

Declan hesitated. He did not know what to say to her.

Should he head back to the Scott family's residence? He definitely could not go back there. Should he admit to Gemma he planned on living on the streets?

Well, Gemma saw through his predicament. With that, she took out a set of keys and handed them to him. "I happen to have another villa in Cloudside. If it suits you, consider it yours."

Declan furrowed his brow and adamantly shook his head. "How can I possibly accept that? You've helped me enough. How can I accept your house as well?"

"But where will you go, Mr. Harrison? It's just a small, empty villa. I'd really like it if you stayed there," Gemma insisted with a sincere smile.

Declan found himself at a loss for words and unable to refuse the keys.

After a moment's silence, he awkwardly said, "Alright then. I'll stay for a few days. Once I land a job, I'll give the house back."

Gemma was impressed. She did not expect that even in his situation, he still thought of giving the villa back. So, when she heard his words, her admiration for him grew.

"Let me drive you there," she offered.

Declan shook his head at once. "Miss Davis, I really can't trouble you any more than I have. How about you lend me some money, and I'll take a taxi myself?"

Gemma was taken aback. She never carried cash, only her sleek black card.

With a stone-cold expression, Benjamin handed him five hundred dollars. "Here. You don't have to pay me back."

"Thank you, sir," Declan politely said.

Just as Gemma was about to leave, he reminded her, "Miss Davis, please come to my place for treatment tomorrow."

"Alright. I'll see you at Cloudside tomorrow," Gemma said and then drove off.

Once she was out of sight, Declan hailed a taxi to Cloudside.

He had never been to the upscale Cloudside. And in all honesty, he thought Gemma had just given him an ordinary villa.

Little did he know that Cloudside housed the city's elite, where even the cheapest villa cost tens of millions.

This was just for the outermost villas. The deeper into the community, the higher the prices soared. Rumor had it the most expensive villa was in the billion-dollar range!

As soon as Declan arrived at the community, a BMW pulled over in front of him.

Austin and Khloe stepped out.

As it happened, Austin had snagged a place in Cloudside to win over Khloe. He had stretched his finances thin and borrowed a considerable amount of money to buy the smallest and most basic villa available.

Upon seeing Declan, the pair did not waste a second and began making fun of him.

Khloe raised an eyebrow and scoffed, "What brings a guy like you to a place like this?"

"Yeah," Austin chimed in. "This place isn't for losers like you. People living here are celebrities and bigwigs. Why come here just to humiliate yourself?"
