Chapter 5 The Divorce

Khloe's voice rang out and was heard by everyone.

Gemma flashed Declan a warm smile and inquired, "Mr. Harrison, how do you plan on getting there?"

"I'll probably just walk," Declan replied somewhat awkwardly. He had no money to hail a taxi.

"I happen to be free today. Since walking such a long distance is tiring, you're welcome to ride in my car."

Gemma's tone exuded warmth, akin to that of a close, old friend, and it gave Declan a glimmer of comfort.

However, Declan knew that if he stepped inside the car, he would likely become the butt of his wife and Austin's jokes, possibly even dragging Gemma into his situation.

With this thought in mind, he politely declined her offer. "How can I trouble you, Miss Davis?"

"It's okay," Gemma reassured him. "We all need a helping hand sometimes."

"Alright," Declan, albeit reluctantly, finally relented.

In the heart of Ginsvale, right in front of a law firm, a Maserati came to a smooth halt.

Declan stepped out of the passenger seat, while Gemma parked the car.

As soon as he got out, he was met with Khloe's cutting remark. "You've finally made it. Did you scrape together enough for a taxi?"

Declan looked up and spotted Khloe and Austin seated in the law firm's reception area on the first floor. They were eyeing him with utter disdain.

They did not recognize the Maserati and assumed Declan had hailed a cab.

"It's none of your concern," Declan retorted coldly.

Khloe turned her nose up and snapped, "Hurry up and sign the papers. Don't keep Austin waiting!"

After parking the car, Gemma made her way to Declan and clung to his arm, entering the law firm.

When Khloe saw Declan enter with a stunning woman, she asked through gritted teeth, "Who's this? We're divorcing. What is she doing here?"

She exuded an air of arrogance as if she were a reigning queen.

Undeterred, Gemma responded with a gentle smile, "I'm Declan's girlfriend. Am I not allowed to accompany him?"

When she heard this, Khloe's gaze turned toward Declan, and she venomously asked, "We're not divorced yet, and you've already found a tramp?"

Even though she had no feelings for Declan, she could not stomach the idea of him getting involved with such an attractive woman before their divorce.

In her mind, even though they were separating, he only deserved a life of misery. How dare he move on with another woman? She would make sure he would regret it!

Meanwhile, Austin could not take his eyes off Gemma.

Compared to Gemma's beauty, Khloe was nothing more than a shadow.

"Furthermore, I expect a one-million-dollar compensation for the emotional distress you've caused," Khloe firmly declared.

Declan's frustration flared, and he shot back, "One million? Why on earth would I do that?"

"Why?" Khloe sneered and pointed her finger accusingly at Gemma. "Because you cheated!"

Declan's vision blurred with anger, and his emotions surged once again.

He had never anticipated that Khloe would resort to such an underhanded tactic.

"Khloe, you've gone too far. Sad to say, but you won't receive a single penny from me!" Declan protested vehemently, his eyes burning red with fury.

As the two of them reached an impasse, Austin took a step forward and wore an insincere smile. "Declan's currently in a financial bind and can't afford such compensation. Why don't we give him a week to gather the funds?"

As he spoke, he used the opportunity to steal a lecherous glance at Gemma's alluring figure.

Noticing his gaze, Khloe became green with envy and tried to emphasize her own beauty, but he paid her no attention whatsoever.

"You whore, how dare you try to steal my man?!" Khloe bellowed, seething with anger. "Just so you know, you're burning money by spending it on that excuse of a man."

Gemma furrowed her brow, and a pensive look appeared on her face.

Declan, unable to bear Khloe's insults any longer, stepped in. "That's enough, Khloe! You will not insult Miss Davis!"

"Who do you think you are?" Khloe snapped back.

As Gemma said nothing, she grasped Austin's arm and flirtatiously said, "Baby, let's not engage with that woman anymore. Let's finish the paperwork and head to our home!"

But she did not stop there and went on to taunt Declan. "Declan, did you know? Austin bought me a villa! It was renovated today, and we're planning to inspect it later. The renovation already costs millions. I bet you've never seen one in your life!"

"Enough! How much longer will you carry on like this?" Austin scolded Khloe with feigned annoyance.

He then turned his attention back to Gemma and said with pride, "Miss, please don't take her words to heart. I'm Austin from the Watson family. We have a partnership with the Davis family in Lorphis. Building a future with someone like Declan is a dead-end. If you follow me, I can offer you a life of wealth and prosperity!"

He was brimming with confidence, convinced that money could make any woman open their legs for him.

Gemma chuckled and meaningfully repeated, "The Davis family in Lorphis?"

Thinking that Gemma knew about the Davis family in Lorphis, Austin felt encouraged.

"That's right. I've already received a letter of intent for cooperation from the Davis family. Therefore, I'll be at the pinnacle of this city."

Gemma's eyes betrayed a trace of disdain, and she coldly retorted, "Hah! You overestimate yourself."

When she saw Austin's advances rejected, Khloe's mood significantly improved, and she urged again, "Declan, hurry up and sign the divorce agreement. And when you're done, get lost!"

Declan took the divorce agreement and, while suppressing his anger, wrote his signature.

"The humiliation I've endured today will be repaid," he vowed bitterly.
