Chapter 3 The Conman

"Miss Davis!" Declan cried out before rushing to Gemma's aid.

However, a nurse nearby intervened and remarked snidely, "Get lost, you cripple. You think you can take advantage of Miss Davis, don't you?"

"Yeah. You better leave!" Benjamin chimed in.

With all her remaining strength, Gemma lifted her hand, signaling everyone to stop speaking.

"You're right about my condition. I have a rare congenital heart defect that's deemed incurable," she weakly said.

"Perhaps I can try..." Declan began with genuine concern.

Gemma looked at him and smiled sarcastically. "What's next? You need me to strip?"

Declan recalled the treatment method for her condition and replied awkwardly, "Well, actually, you do need to take off your blouse for the treatment."

"You audacious cripple! Miss Davis was kind enough to have brought you to the hospital, and you want to take advantage of her?" Benjamin yelled at Declan, seething with anger.

However, Gemma, in apparent pain, looked up and asked, "Are you sure you can cure my illness?"

"Absolutely!" Declan confidently assured her. "Your heart condition is a result of a structural anomaly, causing reduced blood flow and leading to pain. Believe it or not, a massage technique can cure it."

"Nonsense! How can massage cure a congenital heart disease? It sounds like your intentions are far from pure. I should break your hands right now!" Benjamin seethed.

Gemma pondered for a moment and shook her head. "Let's give him a shot, Benjamin."

"If you say so, Miss Davis. As your butler, I'll respect your decision." Benjamin, although reluctant, left the room, leaving Declan and Gemma alone.

"Let's get on with it." Gemma, wincing from pain, began to remove her blouse and settled onto the bed.

She was extraordinarily beautiful. Her skin was flawless, and her curvy figure was irresistible to anyone who laid eyes on her.

Using traditional medicinal practices, Declan channeled his Miracle Energy into Gemma. He navigated her meridians and worked to correct the structure of her heart.

Every touch of Gemma's soft skin sent tingles up his spine.

The curve of her shoulder, combined with her soft moans during the massage made Declan's heart race.

He struggled to concentrate on the task at hand.

By the time the first stage of treatment was over, he was drenched in sweat.

Declan wiped the sweat off his forehead and said, "We'll see the initial results in about ten minutes."

Gemma had already lost hope but still wanted to see what this man could do.

"Alright. You have ten minutes," she coldly said.

Benjamin, who had been lingering outside, stepped back in and eyed Declan with distrust.

Nine minutes quickly passed by, but Gemma did not feel anything special.

Disappointment washed over her, and she realized she had been taken in by false hope.

As the clock neared its mark, Benjamin interjected, "So, Miss Davis, how should we handle this fraud?"

Declan's heart sank. He knew he had no more cards to play.

If his newly acquired knowledge was bogus, then maybe exiting this cruel world was not that bad, after all.

Gemma turned to Declan and demanded, "Leave, and make sure our paths never cross again."

With a wave of Benjamin's hand, several bodyguards stormed in and threw Declan out of the hospital.

Once Declan was gone, Benjamin turned to Gemma and exasperatedly said, "Miss Davis, you were too trusting. How could you expose your body to that fraud?"

"You were right, Benjamin," Gemma admitted regretfully. "I can't believe I foolishly believed in him. It turns out he was nothing but a conman."

"Do you want me to get rid of him?" Benjamin asked, his demeanor becoming threatening.

Gemma shook her head. "He didn't ask for compensation, so let's chalk it up to pay for hitting him."

But the next moment, her eyes widened, and her face turned ashen.

To everyone's surprise, Gemma coughed up a gush of black blood.

"Miss Davis!" Benjamin exclaimed in anger and horror. He suspected that this had something to do with the man they had just thrown out.

"I'll go call the hospital director!" the nurse said and then rushed out of the room.

In his rage, Benjamin barked at the guards, "It must be that cripple's doing! Bring that Declan man back here. If he tries anything funny, don't hesitate to kill him!"
