Chapter 10 Where is Daddy, Mommy

She's so damn beautiful!

Hunter's pair of brown eyes couldn't stop gazing at the beauty in front of him. The gesture Adeline gave made her look like a seductress.

But wait, while Hunter was staring at Adeline, his gaze was drawn to the man beside Adeline. Instantly Hunter's gaze became cold when he saw Adeline with another man. Hunter's face looked exactly like he wanted to kill.

Adeline remained standing where she was. She just stared at the perfect couple in front of her. But there was no denying that Adeline seemed to feel the fire that burned her body. It's just that the fire that had burned was able to be extinguished by Adeline. Five years was not a short time. Of course, Adeline knew how to control herself.

"Mr. Hunter?" Lewis greeted when he saw Hunter and Hailey getting closer.

Hunter smiled slightly when Lewis greeted him. "Yes, Mr. Lewis."

"You? Have we met before?" Hailey looked at Adeline's face. It seemed that the woman was completely familiar with Adeline's face.

"Do you know each other?" Before Adeline could answer, Lewis had already interrupted her.

"No... this is even our first meeting." Adeline replied in a calm voice. Adeline was silently thankful that Hailey didn't remember her.

"Sorry then, I meant wrong. Your face is familiar. So I thought we had met." Hailey said with a graceful voice and a hint of haughtiness. Her hand was still on Hunter's arm.

Hunter was silent when he heard Adeline's response. He was a little surprised by Adeline's answer.

"Miss Hailey... this is Miss Adeline Geovern. The daughter of Mr. Thomas Geovern," Lewis informed.

"Ah, really? I didn't know. I'm sorry I don't really follow the news about businessmen," Hailey replied haughtily.

Again. Hunter still remained silent. The man's gaze continued to stare at Adeline. Of course, Hunter knew Adeline was part of the Geovern Family. It was just that Hunter thought Adeline was not present at this dinner. It had been a long time since Hunter had seen Adeline at an event like this.

"Mr. Hunter?" Aidan came along with Sarah-his wife approached Adeline, who was with Lewis, Hunter, and Hailey.

"Mr. Aidan?" Hunter smiled faintly to greet Aidan. Even Hailey gave Aidan and Sarah a smile.

"Thank you for coming," Aidan said coldly in an authoritative tone.

"I thank you for inviting me," Hunter replied firmly.

Adeline was a little unsettled when Aidan spoke to Hunter. No wonder her brother knew Hunter. Bennett & Bennett Company was the largest law firm in the UK. It seemed impossible that no one knew Hunter Bennett. It was just that a situation like this made Adeline both anxious and awkward. So far, no one knew about her and Hunter. Adeline didn't tell anyone either. Not without reason, but Hunter was a man who had a partner. Adeline didn't want to be seen as a destroyer of people's relationships.

"Sorry ... looks like I have to go home first. It's getting late." Adeline excused herself. She didn't want to keep Olivier waiting for her.

"Adeline, can I drop you off?" Lewis said, who wanted to take Adeline.

"No, you can't. I can do it myself, Lewis," Adeline replied quietly.

"Adeline, it's late. Let Lewis drive you. Later I will ask my assistant to bring your car," Aidan said firmly.

"Brother but-"

"Adeline ... it's late. It's not good for you to drive your own car. Let Lewis drive you, okay?" Sarah-Adeline's sister-in-law, interrupted Adeline's speech. Sarah's tone gently persuaded Adeline to go home together with Lewis.

Adeline sighed softly. Even though Adeline was more comfortable going home alone. But if it's like this, then Adeline couldn't refuse.

"Okay," Adeline replied resignedly.

Lewis smiled when Adeline wanted to be escorted by him. The next second, Adeline stepped out of place along with Lewis, who followed her. Aidan and Sarah smiled as they watched Adeline and Lewis leave.

"Aidan ... it looks like Adeline and Lewis are a good match," Sarah said to her husband.

"Yeah, I hope so," Aidan replied as he put his arm around Sarah's shoulders. Giving his wife a peck on the cheek.

Hunter was silent as Lewis and Adeline left. Hunter's pair of brown eyes were so sharp. Even now, Hunter heard some people whispering about Adeline, who looked stunning. Not a few men praised Adeline's appearance. All the words of the invited guests were heard by Hunter. Hunter's heart seemed to be hot. He didn't know why the emotions in him were unstoppable when many men praised Adeline.

Lewis drove his car through city of New York at a moderate speed. The weather was cool at night. The streetlights helped Lewis navigate the streets. Several times Lewis stole a glance at Adeline, who was looking out the window.

"Adeline ... have you lived in New York long?" Lewis asked, trying to find something to talk about.

"I've been in New York for five years, Lewis," Adeline replied quietly.

Lewis nodded briefly. "New York is a beautiful city."

"Have you been working with my family's company for long?" Adeline asked, looking at Lewis.

"About six years I've been working with the company leaded by your brother; Aidan. But I've only seen you in the media so far. And the last few years, when I attended your family's dinners, you were never present. I only saw your twin sister; Alisha." Lewis said tellingly.

Adeline was silent for a while at Lewis's words. "I'm just getting tired of attending dinners like this. Tonight, I came at my brother's request. If it wasn't my brother who insisted on asking me to come then I wouldn't have come."

Lewis nodded in understanding. "Sometimes attending dinners like this too often is boring. I don't always come either. I just happened to come today because I was getting bored at home. And it turns out that Goddess Fortuna came to me. I've always wanted to get to know you in person, Adeline."

An awkward smile crossed Adeline's face at Lewis's words. Adeline didn't know what to answer. An awkward smile was all she could show.

Not long after, the car began to enter Adeline's apartment building. In her heart, Adeline felt relieved because she had arrived at the lobby of her apartment. There was a sense of discomfort when Adeline was close to a man in a car like this. Because since then, Adeline had been so close to herself.

"Thanks for driving me, Lewis," Adeline said with a friendly smile on her face.

Lewis smiled. "You're welcome, Adeline. Nice to meet you."

"I'm glad to make your acquaintance too. Then I'll go down first," Adeline replied kindly.

Lewis nodded briefly. The man pressed the button to open the car door. Then Adeline got out of the car and stepped into the lobby of her apartment. Just as Adeline had gone inside, Lewis's car began to drive away.

Adeline stepped into her penthouse. Her face looked grim. Her heart and mind were in turmoil. The gleam in her eyes began to fade. However, Adeline immediately braced herself when her weak spot reappeared.

Adeline had promised never to be a weak and stupid woman. In the past, she had made the mistake of hoping for a man who never wanted her. Now Adeline would never again let that happen.

"Mommy..." Olivier threw his body into Adeline's. The boy hugged Adeline so tightly.

"Baby? Are you awake?" Adeline knelt down to align her body with Olivier's.

"Yes, Mommy. I'm awake. I can't sleep anymore because Mommy's not beside me," Olivier said in an innocent voice.

Adeline smiled. "I'm sorry, Baby. I had some business for a while."

"Mommy ... you're so beautiful." Olivier complimented Adeline, who looked beautiful.

"Olivier is also very handsome." Adeline kissed Olivier's round cheek.

Olivier was silent for a moment. "Mommy... can I ask you a question?"

"What do you want to ask, hm?" Adeline pinched Olivier's nose lightly.

"Where is Daddy, Mommy? Why doesn't Daddy ever take me to school? All my friends are taken by their fathers. Why don't I, Mommy?" Olivier asked, which immediately made Adeline silent.

Adeline knew one day Olivier would ask this. When Olivier was three years old, Adeline always changed the subject when Olivier asked about his father. Now Olivier was four years old. It seemed impossible for Adeline to avoid.

"Mommy? Why are you silent?" Olivier asked again in a low voice.

Adeline had a smile on her face. She caressed Olivier's round cheeks and said, "Daddy is in a faraway place. The name of the place is heaven. When Olivier grows up, he will know where heaven is. Olivier, don't be sad that Daddy is not there. Mommy always gives a lot of love to Olivier."

Olivier's face turned gloomy. "Does that mean I can't see Daddy, Mommy?"

"Daddy will always be in Olivier's heart. Daddy isn't going anywhere, Baby. Now let Mommy take care of Olivier. I promise I will always be by Olivier's side." Adeline said with teary eyes.

Olivier immediately hugged Adeline. Even Adeline returned Olivier's hug tightly. Slowly Adeline's tears began to trickle down her cheeks.

"I love you, Mommy," Olivier said softly in Adeline's arms.

"I love you more, Baby." Adeline said in a soft tone.

Adeline's mind thought of Hunter, who was now happy with Hailey. Adeline's heart was so sore. But she still struggled to be strong for Olivier's sake.
