Chapter 2 Saying Goodbye

"Hello, son. How are you? Why are you calling me? Is it for money again? Not to worry, I will transfer a thousand dollars to you right away."

The voice of Garry's father came through from the other end of the line.

Tears welled up in Garry's eyes as soon as he heard those words.

Something told him that this was the last time he would hear his father's loving voice.

Garry was from a poor family. They could barely feed and take care of other living expenses, so he knew that they weren't worth up to three hundred thousand dollars.

More so, the kidnappers abducted him from the street without covering their faces. It went without saying that they wouldn't let him go back alive.

Most importantly, Garry didn't want to give in to these scumbags. He also didn't want his father to worry about him, so he made a risky decision.

"Goodbye, Dad. Live well!" Garry shouted.

This statement took Kent by surprise. He cursed at him immediately. "Fuck! Do you want to die? Why did you..."

Before he could finish speaking, Garry leaped up and hit his face with his head.

The blow instantly made Kent dizzy. He held his forehead and staggered.

The phone in his hand fell to the ground, causing the call to disconnect.

"Damn you! You're courting death!"

Kent's men shouted and immediately swung into action. In no time, Garry was surrounded. Several punches and kicks landed on his body.

The blows stung like hell. His mouth soon became filled with blood.

Garry surprisingly took the pain like a man. He didn't even groan or beg them to stop. Instead, he just lay there.

"I'll kill you!"

Kent soon recovered from the head-butt. His face was flushed with embarrassment and anger.

He wanted to cut Garry into a thousand pieces for humiliating him like this in front of his subordinates.

Just as he held his machete up high, he was stopped by some of his men.

"Boss, please don't do that. Remember that we are only doing this for the money."

"If we kill him, the police will come after us."

"It's not over yet. Since he doesn't want to cooperate, let's just talk to his father ourselves."

Kent gritted his teeth and grunted. It took a while before he gave up the idea of murdering Garry. For the sake of the money, he slowly set down his machete.

To vent his anger, he gave Garry a few hard kicks in the delicate areas. Garry soon coughed out blood as he lay on his side.

"You stubborn idiot!"

Kent cursed and picked up Garry's phone. He typed a message and hit send. Afterward, he placed the phone in front of Garry.

Garry painstakingly opened his eyes. He saw that his father was sent a threatening text message.

It read, "We have your son. This is a matter of life and death. Transfer the sum of three hundred thousand dollars to his account within the next thirty minutes. If you fail to do so, your son will be killed!"

"Let's see how important you are to your father." Kent grinned evilly. "If he's a minute late in transferring the money, I'll chop off one of your fingers."

Kent set a timer on his watch immediately.

Tick! Tick!

The hands of his watch kept moving. Kent countlessly checked Garry's phone for a bank notification. However, he got nothing.

After about twenty minutes passed, he looked at Garry who was still lying on the ground. He flashed a bloodthirsty smile at him.

"It seems your father doesn't hold you dear to his heart. He wants you dead."

Garry didn't have the strength to say a word. He just lay still and breathed heavily.

Once the countdown was over, Kent's evil grin widened. He picked up his machete and raised it over his head.

Just as he was about to make good his threat, a loud noise came from outside the factory.

"What was that?"

One of the kidnappers opened the gate of the factory to check what caused that loud noise.

A whistling sound suddenly filled the air. It was followed by a gust of wind. The next second, several bright lights came into view. It was as if it was daytime.

As everyone in the factory tried to shield their eyes from the blinding light, many heavily-armed men marched into the factory.
