Chapter 7 The Dinner Party

The next afternoon, Kerr's assistant Jared had collected all the information he could fund about Nicole, and put the file on Kerr's desk respectfully. But upon Kerr opened it, his face turned gloomy immediately.

"Jared, this is how you work for me at recent years? Tell me, what's the difference between the result from your investigation and the resume she had submitted to the company by herself?" The anger in Kerr's voice was obvious.

In the document, there were only the information of her education and working experience, but totally no any words about her life before she had graduated from the Manhattan University. It was almost a carbon copy of what Nicole had submitted to the Human Resource Department of the Graham Group.

Hearing the unpleasant in Kerr's voice, Jared bowed his head, not daring to look into Kerr's eyes, "Mr. Graham, these were the only information I could find when I did this investigation. Through some tidbits I was basically able to confirm that Nicole was the first daughter of the Morgan family, which also one of the big families in the past.But no longer after the Morgans fell down, she was already in Manhattan. You say she has a boy, but strangely, I haven't found any information about her child or the father of the child."

Jared had been working for Kerr for quite a long time, so he had a good grasp of what kind of person Kerr was. Admittedly, it was strange for him to see Kerr being so interested in a woman. So, he had already investigated all the information about Nicole in as much detail as possible.

Kerr frowned and waved his hand dismissively to let Jared take back his useless papers. It was clear he wasn't going to let this slide over, but not now.

"Check my schedule, is there a business dinner today?" He asked.

"Yes, Mr. Graham. It is with the president of the Gibson Group, and the son of the president of Robinson Group, and some of the core staff working on this upcoming project. I have just done confirming the time and place." Jared answered without any hesitation and accurately named the people involved.

In fact Jared was an excellent assistant and capable for anything Kerr assigned him. Right, except for the arrangement seven years ago...

"Is Nicole Morgan the head of operating this project?" Kerr's gaze fell upon one of Nicole's photos left on his table.

Jared immediately reacted and nodded, he knew what his big boss did mean at once, "Yes, Mr. Graham, Ms. Morgan would be in charge. I'm going to inform her about her attendance right now."

After saying that, he immediately turned over and walked out of Kerr's office. Without any seconds of pausing, he grabbed a folder from his workstation containing the project they had with the Gibson Group and headed straight to Nicole's office, then knocked on the door gently.

Knock, knock, knock.

"Come in, please."

Nicole's eyes was still fixing on the computer screen and she didn't notice who entered the door.

"Ms. Morgan, this is the business plan of the upcoming cooperation project of the Graham Group and the Gibson Group. Mr. Graham and the president of the Gibson Group are having a dinner this evening, and since you will be in charge of this project, he asked me to inform you to attend with him. The time is 6:00 pm."

He placed the documents on the desk in front of her.

Nicole raised her head and looked at Jared with some doubt, "Dinner... Wait, but today I got too much work and meetings ..."

"It's still two hours from now. Please get ready and the driver will be waiting for you downstairs." Without waiting for Nicole to finish her 'But' words, Jared spoke in a super fast speed and quickly slipped out of Nicole's office.

As soon as Jared escaped from Nicole's office, he made a sigh as relief. Actually, he also got curious about the attitude that Mr. Graham towards Nicole. This dinner, although it was based on the project, actually it was really more about the delicate relationship between the two large companies. On such a serious occasion, the boss chose to let Nicole, who had joined the company for less than a month, to join him.

At 5:50 in the afternoon, Nicole finally finished most of her business and did a little lipstick touch-up in the bathroom. She was dressed in a conservative but dignified black business suit, which Nicole thought it was luckily suitable for today's case. She gave a confident and professional smile to herself in the mirror then went out.

The moment she arrived at the parking lot, she immediately saw the black Rolls Royce with the special logo of the Graham Group, she then speeded up to the car.

The driver caught sight of Nicole, and immediately got out of the car to open the door for her. However, when her eyes fell upon the man sitting inside the car, Nicole even wanted to run away.

"Mr. Graham?"

"Hum."

Kerr was resting in the seat with his eyes closing, he merely hummed a single syllable as reply.

Since that night Nicole found out that Kerr was very likely to be Jay's father, she instinctively tried to avoid seeing him. She just didn't think that a man like him was suitable to be Jay's father.

She was well aware of how dangerous it was for her to stay with Kerr.

Nicole could feel how nervous and shaky her breathing was. She tried to occupy as little space as possible and stay as far away from Kerr as she could on the backseat.

The air in the car was filled with dead silence, making Nicole feel even more awkward. All of sudden, the sound of her mobile phone ringing broke the silence.

"When will you arrive home?" It's a blame from her son. This little man was standing in front of the empty fridge and showed an adult-like seriousness.

Then Nicole thought of that she had forgotten to tell Jay that there was a dinner meeting and she had to come back home late tonight.

"I'm sorry, Jay. I have a very important appointment tonight, so I won't be home in a very soon time. Can I ask Baron to come and have dinner with you. Is that okay?"

She was making a discussion gently with this little man.

When they were in Manhattan, she spent all of her free time from school and work on Jay. But she didn't think that, when they returned to this city, she was so busy and even had less time to look after Jay. She felt guilty.

Jay closed the fridge door and frowned. "No, I don't want that. Uncle Baron always treats me like a little child. I can stay at home by myself and book a take away. Nicole, Don't drink too much. You need to be home before I fall asleep."

It seemed as if she was the child that needed taking care of and Jay was the parent. Nicole felt funny and answered with a soft smile, "Okay, I'll try."

Nicole's conversation with her son drew Kerr's attention. She didn't notice Kerr was enchanted by her maternal glowing gentle smile and was staring at her.

"Is that your son? How old is him?" Kerr asked casually. Nicole never thought Kerr would ask her about her private matters with interest.

"Y-Yes. He..."
