Chapter 9 Bark Like A Dog

"Who said I didn't succeed in signing the contract?" Carolyn asked.

The meeting immediately became silent when they heard her.

"I said it!" Jerome replied, his gaze contemptuous.

"I also said it!"

"Count me in. I said it!"

Others echoed Jerome's words.

"As your father, I am blaming you. You cannot just go back on your word as if it is not important. You should not have agreed to take on the responsibility if you were not sure of doing it. The Jiang family will suffer if things go wrong," Harold said.

'I didn't have any choice.' Carolyn rolled her eyes.

"Carolyn, did we say anything wrong? You only went to Seaside Real Estate once, and you've locked yourself indoors ever since. Don't tell me you signed the contract after visiting the company once," Reyna said, smiling cruelly.

"That's what happened. I just went there once, and the manager signed the contract," Carolyn said firmly. She looked from one face to the other, raising her head in confidence.

When they heard this, the room suddenly became quiet, as if it was an empty meeting room.

The next moment, someone burst out laughing.

"Ha-ha! It's so funny!"

"This is the funniest joke I have heard this century. Please, someone, come and help me. My stomach will burst with laughter!"

"Carolyn, don't tell me you are out of your mind!"

Olive didn't also believe her. How could she be able to sign the contract so quickly and without any trouble after just one visit to Seaside Real Estate? She frowned and looked disappointingly at Carolyn.

"If you failed to sign the contract, tell the truth and stop lying! You cannot hide a lie. It will be exposed sooner or later. Now that you failed in what we asked you to do, hand over the will and pack your things to leave Jiang Group."

Carolyn did not say one word in reply. Instead, she just took the contract out of her bag and slammed it on the table.

"This is the contract. It has the stamp of Seaside Real Estate on it. Carlos Deng also signed it."

This time the quietness in the room lasted for a longer time.

"She has done it. What a miracle!"

The meeting room was in an uproar. They looked at Carolyn in disbelief, and then gaped at the contract on the table in surprise.

Olive was overcome with joy.

Before Carolyn could give the contract to Olive, Jerome grabbed it and carefully went through it.

'Sure enough, she has signed the contract!'

"A supplier of all building materials!" This time Jerome opened his mouth in shock. He could not believe what he saw.

"What! How come? A supplier of all building materials!"

"Oh my God! This is incredible!"

When she heard what Jerome said, Olive became even more excited. She stood up and walked to his side. She grabbed the contract from him and read it carefully. "It's true that we will become the supplier of all building materials!"

"Carolyn, how did you do it? Did you sleep with the manager?" Reyna asked wryly. She didn't believe Carolyn could do such a thing. There was no way she would have succeeded if she did not trade herself for the deal.

"Reyna has a point! I believe her. Carolyn, did you sign the contract by selling your body as a bribe?" Jerome said contemptuously.

The others began to cast doubtful looks at her.

"Carolyn? Answer! Was that what you did?" Olive demanded.

"I met Mr. Deng for about thirty minutes. Also, there were many people in his office when we spoke. They can testify that nothing happened between us," Carolyn explained.

"That's good to hear!

Carolyn, well done!"

Satisfied that Carolyn did not give any sexual favors, Olive looked at her with appreciation.

Carolyn didn't expect their appreciation or praise. Instead, she just wanted to take back the legacy her mother bequeathed her.

"Grandma, I'm in my twenties and have been working for some years now. I want to take back the legacy my mother left me and keep it for myself," Carolyn said.

"You're dreaming!"

"You can't do that!"

Reyna and Jerome were unanimous in their disapproval.

Reyna had dreams about the money. Harold had promised her that he would give her the money as a dowry in the future.

At the same time, Olive had promised Jerome that the money would remain with the company until he become the president.

"The money is mine. The will is unambiguous. I am the heir. Can't I take back my things?" Carolyn's tone was now harsh.

"Carolyn, you're not allowed to say that. Your mother died when you were young. You have lived in the Jiang family for more than ten years, and never for once did we charge you for your accommodation. You are so heartless!" Daisy said with much sarcasm.

"Exactly!" Reyna snorted, curling her lips.

"The money cannot even cover your living expenses, going by the economy," Jerome chipped in.

Carolyn knew they were shameless, but she didn't expect their level of shamelessness to be high.

"My mother left me a legacy worth several million dollars. The truth is that you've been treating me like a servant all these years. Besides, you should have raised me by law. If the legacy is not returned to me, I'll go to court," Carolyn said. Her tone was now cold.

"Carolyn, what do you mean by that? To you, it's all about money! You're a member of the Jiang family. That should be more important to you," Harold said in a harsh voice.

At that moment, Olive decided to speak up.

"Carolyn, we are a family. We should all live in harmony. You will have your money. But right now, Jiang Group has a cash flow problem. When we relieve the financial strain, you can take it as it pleases you."

'Jiang Group will always have a tight budget. I won't allow you to take back the money, ' Olive thought to herself.

"Indeed! The company is cash-strapped at this time, but you insist on taking your money. What's your intention? Do you want the company to go bankrupt?" Jerome asked her.

Carolyn knew that it would be impossible for them to hand over the money right now. But she had to make them do something to teach them a lesson.

"For now, I won't take back my money, but on one condition," Carolyn said in a cold voice, looking straight at Olive.

"You must be crazy, Carolyn! Very crazy! How dare you give us a condition?" Jerome scolded. He was wondering what the condition would be.

"I don't want to hear one more word from you, Jerome." Olive was relieved to hear that Carolyn would not take back her money. If she made good her threat and took legal action, the Jiang family would not do anything about it.

"Carolyn, tell me your condition. I will support you if it's genuine," Olive said, trying to ingratiate herself with Carolyn.

"Grandma, my condition is a simple one. Jerome should keep his promise to bark like a dog." Carolyn snickered, turning to Jerome.

The meeting room was again in an uproar.

Everyone knew that Jerome was Olive's favorite grandson.

Moreover, he was groomed to inherit Jiang Group. How could she allow him to bark like a dog?

"Carolyn! Don't take this too far!" Jerome said. He was infuriated.

'She must have gone crazy. She wants me to bark like a dog? No way!'

"You said it yourself, Jerome. You said if I could sign the contract, you would bark like a dog. Everyone heard you. You cannot take back what you said!" Carolyn smiled and stood her ground.

"Carolyn! You're a bitch! Don't overestimate your importance!" Daisy shouted at her.

Olive was silent for a while. She weighed the pros and cons, and slowly, she said, "Jerome, you are a man. You should your word. You said it yourself, and you should do it."

"Grandma! Is that coming from you?" Jerome was surprised at what Olive said. He cast a questioning look at her.

"Hurry up! Keep your word!" Olive insisted, her face expressionless.

Her reply surprised the family. It was unexpected that Jerome, who Olive always favored, would be placed in an awkward position.

"Woof, woof, woof..." Jerome swallowed his pride and barked like a dog.

Carolyn sneered. "Louder! I didn't hear you bark!"

"Woof, woof, woof!" Jerome barked louder.

All the people, except Harold and his family, snickered. Jerome, who used to be authoritative, made a fool of himself today.
