Chapter 8 A Super Luxurious Meal

Benson felt that the gloomy expression on Carolyn's face was funny.

'It must be because she thought she would pay. What a silly girl! She doesn't know that I am generous to ladies. How could I possibly burden her with the bill?'

He had booked the whole of the restaurant for the day. He had already paid a deposit for other expenses, and the total bill went up to several million dollars.

Benson humored himself, imagining what must be going through Carolyn's mind.

So, he decided to tease her.

"Don't you have 680, 000 dollars?" Benson made his face appear suspicious on purpose.

"No, I don't have it," Carolyn said. She was despondent.

The Jiang family had treated her poorly since she was a child. She helped herself through college and earned the tuition fees herself.

"Then, what are we to do? That amount is beyond me!" Benson said. He deliberately looked worried.

"Don't you own Universe Company? How could you not even have 680, 000 dollars? You are even driving a Pagani," Carolyn retorted. She was now nervous.

She had intended to borrow some money from him to pay the bill.

"You don't know how difficult it is to do business. My company owes the bank a lot of money. And I borrowed the car just for show!" Anyone who heard Benson would have believed him.

His words made Carolyn even more desperate.

"Oh my God! It's all your fault. Why did you order such expensive dishes?"

Carolyn wanted to ask him whether he was out of his mind.

"I had no choice. I have a weakness for expensive food," Benson said with audacity.

Carolyn became speechless. If she had not controlled herself, she would have splashed the glass of water in front of her on his face.

The only option left was to use the money left by her mother to pay the bill. When she realized she would have to spend it in such a wasteful way, she felt very depressed.

"Sir and madam, your dishes are ready. Here they are."

With skill and grace, several waitresses lined up to serve the dishes one after the other.

Carolyn imagined herself attending a feast at the royal court.

"This is stir-fried pine mushrooms!"

The pine mushrooms were cut into thin pieces and cooked. The dish had a strong fragrance, and it must be delicious

"Omelet with lobster!"

The omelet had first-class lobster meat and Sevruga caviar mixed in. It smelled good.

"Medium well Kobe beef!"

The beef was tender with a crispy crust. A pleasantly savory broth was in it, which vastly increased appetite.

"This is white truffle!

And finally, seafood curry!

Your dishes are on the table. Please, enjoy yourself." The waitresses all left as gracefully as they came.

At this time, a band appeared behind them and began to play melodious music.

If Carolyn weren't paying the bill, she would think this was an excellent way to enjoy life.

However, the delicious food on the table made her heart ache.

'This is not food but money...' she thought.

"Why don't you taste the dishes? They should be delicious." It didn't seem as if Benson had much appetite.

'They should be delicious? They must be delicious!'

Carolyn wanted to teach Benson a lesson as she didn't expect that he would afford to spend 680, 000 dollars on a meal.

"Come on, take a bite of the pine mushrooms. This dish doesn't look elegant, but the taste should be okay." Benson picked up some food with his chopsticks, enough for a mouthful, and held it to Carolyn's lips.

"Thanks. I can do it myself." Carolyn showed reluctance in accepting the food he was holding before her.

"It will get cold if you don't eat it." Benson was intentional while he teased Carolyn. "This mouthful should be worth thousands of dollars."

"This spoonful goes for at least 5, 000 dollars."

"And this piece looks like a decent 10, 000 dollars."

"Just shut up!" Carolyn snapped and stared at Benson. He had deliberately made her angry.

She began to eat the food reluctantly.

She was thrilled after taking the first bite.

"Well, these dishes are not so bad. They are excellent!"

"Hmm! They're so delicious!"

"How come they taste so good?"

The food had aroused her appetite. She could not stop eating.

Eating delicious food like this was a rarity for her since her family treated her poorly.

This was the best food she had ever eaten.

After a while, all the delicious food on the table was nearly gone. Carolyn had eaten so much by herself.

"Take your time. They are all yours. No one will take them away from you," Benson said.

He was naturally elegant and reserved, and he just took a few sips of the red wine. He barely ate the dishes.

He didn't think they were delicious because this was what he ate every day.

Carolyn ate ravenously. Benson saw her in her true character, and that was what he liked.

In the past, when he took rich young ladies for dinner, they were always inhibited and usually ate very little.

The girl eating before him was different. She was casual and ate without affectation.

Benson had not realized that those rich ladies were pretentious because they wanted to marry him. The woman eating in front of him would not dare allow the delicious food to waste.

"I've had enough. There's no space in my stomach anymore," Carolyn said.

"You have eaten everything." Benson smiled at her. Fortunately, he had ordered sufficient dishes.

Carolyn was somewhat embarrassed.

When the time to pay the bill arrived, her worry came back, and she reluctantly handed her bank card to the receptionist. There was some money in the card which her mother had left for her as pocket money. She had never used it until today.

"Madam, Mr. Gu has already paid the bill," the receptionist told her respectfully.

Carolyn was shocked.

She turned to look at Benson. He was standing not far from her and was smiling.

'Damn it! He is making fun of me!'

"Didn't you say you didn't have the money for the bill?"

"Yes, I have no money with me, but there is a considerable sum in my bank account."

Benson was still smiling. Carolyn's chubby cheeks, when she was angry, amused him. 'She looks so cute!'

He had become addicted to teasing Carolyn.

"I feel like strangling you!" Carolyn cursed.

Benson had other business after leaving the restaurant, so he dropped Carolyn at Jiang family's villa and left.

In the meeting room of Jiang Group

"Carolyn went to Seaside Real Estate on the first day first thing in the morning, and she has never gone there again."

"I guess the problem is tougher than she thought and she has fallen into despair. She has most likely given up."

"I knew things would turn out this way. She is never competent enough to negotiate the contract."

"I've disliked her for a very long time. She is useless, and yet she always acts arrogant."

"This is the fourth day. When she comes, we must all work together to make her hand over the will. Then, we will have to kick her out of the Jiang family."

Jerome, Reyna, and others made Carolyn the subject of their gossip at the meeting.

They saw Carolyn staying at home leisurely. She didn't go out, nor was she worried about anything. Instead, she had been watering flowers as if nothing had happened.

They were all secretly gloating in their heads. 'Carolyn, the deadline is coming. We will kick you out of the Jiang family after handing over the will!'

Just then, Olive came in.

"Grandma, Carolyn has been lazy lately. She has been sleeping all day indoors. I'm afraid another company has already been awarded the contract!" Jerome complained.

"Yes, Grandma. Carolyn did so on purpose. She accepted the task, and we thought she would do it, but she didn't take any action. She did it on purpose to make us lose this great opportunity! She doesn't want the Jiang family to rise!" Reyna echoed, adding fuel to the fire.

"Really? How dare she?" Olive responded angrily.

"She doesn't possess what is needed to get the contract signed. We don't need such a good-for-nothing!" Jerome chipped in, curling his lips.

"Who said I didn't sign the contract?"

At that moment, Carolyn was at the door of the meeting room.
