Chapter 3 A Free Servant

After Cohen hung up the phone, Harold became gloomy. His plan had become unfruitful.

"You're nothing but trouble. And you're also a pest!" Harold roared, pointing his fingers at Carolyn.

"Dad, it seems you've forgotten something. I'm your daughter, and I inherited your traits and characters," Carolyn said with a sneer. "When you insult me, you are also insulting yourself, unless I'm not your daughter."

Full of anger, Harold slapped Carolyn in the face.

"You're a shameless bitch! Talking nonsense!" It was as if Carolyn had attacked him at his weakest point. Harold's eyes popped with rage.

"She's useless. You don't have to be so worked up because of her. Now that Cohen called off the engagement, what should we do?" Daisy said, pleased with the treatment Carolyn had received.

Harold had a worried look on his face. It had not been easy to kinship with the Zhao family, and now it was ruined by Carolyn.

"Dad, Mom, you don't have to worry about it. Actually, Cohen and I have been in love with each other for a long time." Reyna blushed as she spoke. She could not help touching her face out of shyness.

"Really?" Daisy exclaimed. This was good news.

"Of course. Cohen must have broken his engagement to Carolyn because he loves me. He took this as the opportunity to break up with her," Reyna said affectionately.

"My daughter is such a beautiful princess. Everyone loves her!" Daisy said, beaming with pride.

Despite her strenuous efforts, Daisy had failed to get Cohen and Reyna together because he seemed infatuated with Carolyn.

Now, Reyna took Cohen away from her sister.

"Thanks, Mom. You were the one who made it possible."

Carolyn felt disgusted with Daisy and Reyna. The mother and daughter were so shameless.

"The two of you are ridiculous!" Harold said, frowning. "Reyna, why did you steal Cohen from Carolyn?"

Carolyn's eyes lit up. 'Maybe Dad isn't as bad as I thought.'

What he said next made her abandon her naive thoughts.

"The Zhao family is just a second-class family. I don't want such for you. You are better than that. Your goal is to marry into a first-class family! Besides, Cohen is notorious. He is a playboy. You will only suffer if you marry him!" Harold said.

Carolyn could not believe what she heard.

'So, Dad knew Cohen is a scumbag, and yet, he wanted to force me to marry him, ' she thought.

"I don't think you can do anything about it right now. We've already had sex. I don't care what anyone thinks about him. I love Cohen!" Reyna was head over heels in love with Cohen.

"Harold, forget it. Just let Reyna has what she wants," Daisy said in a soft voice that showed she was clearly in league with Reyna.

Since Reyna and Cohen had sex, Harold saw no point in pursuing the matter any further. Reyna could have her way.

"Carolyn, leave this family now! You will only ruin the reputation of our family if you stay. Don't come back, ever again! And don't call me Dad either!" Harold shouted.

Carolyn was totally disappointed with her father. She did not want to stay in this in this family anyway.

"I will leave, but first, I must take away the legacy bequeathed to me by my mother," Carolyn replied. She drawled her speech so that Harold would hear every word of what she said.

When Carolyn's mother was alive, she had left her a fortune in a will. But now, Daisy and her daughter were having it.

"No way! That's my dowry! No one, not even you, can take it away from me!" Reyna was the first to speak. She was already crying.

"It cannot be. That's wishful thinking on your part, Carolyn! You've been living in this house for twenty years. I haven't charged you for your accommodation. You're now talking about the legacy! What legacy?" Daisy refused Carolyn's request too.

"Daisy Wang! We need to make some facts clear! My mother is the reason why the Jiang family has a measure of glory today. She used her dowry to support the Jiang family through the crisis. If she hadn't, I'm afraid the family would have been bankrupt today!" Carolyn said harshly.

"Gee! Harold, your daughter has the nerve to call me by my name! Did her mother ever teach her anything about manners? What an ill-bred person," Daisy said sarcastically.

Slap! Carolyn gave Daisy a slap in the face.

"Don't ever slander my mother!" No one ever slandered her mother without facing the consequences. She would never allow that to happen.

"You bitch! How dare you!" Daisy was now covering her face with her hand. "Harold, it's time to teach your daughter a good lesson. Otherwise, this marriage is over. I will divorce you!"

"Shut up!" Harold snapped. The look on his face was severe. Daisy became frightened, and she didn't dare to speak anymore.

"Carolyn, I was kidding. You are my daughter. I don't have the heart to drive you away. It was just a slip of the tongue," Harold said.

"Your joke was not funny at all," Carolyn retorted, her voice cold and her look fierce.

Harold knew he had to be shrewd with Carolyn. She was as aloof as her mother; she had never taken the initiative to please him.

The Jiang family business was going through rough times. If Carolyn took away her mother's legacy, the company would collapse. He would never allow such a thing to happen.

"Carolyn, I will never repeat such jokes," Harold said with a smile. "You must be tired. Why not go and have a rest?"

Carolyn sneered at him and walked towards her bedroom on the first floor.

"Harold! How could she be so easily forgiven? I became your second wife at a very young age. And I gave you a son and a daughter! Your ungrateful daughter just beat me up, and you won't stand up for me? I'm disappointed. I'm highly unhappy with you!

Reyna! When your brother is not home, your father don't take us seriously. This is too much to bear!" Daisy yelled at him like a shrewish wife. She was sitting on the floor, and tears were flowing down her cheeks.

"That's enough! Do you want our company to go bankrupt? Don't you want to enjoy a good life anymore?

Besides, she's our servant. She's been doing all the housework here for so many years. Otherwise, we'd have to hire a servant, which would cost money. She has saved us a lot of money," Harold said, emphasizing every point.

His words made Daisy stand up from the floor.

"Yes, you're right. I almost forgot. We can't waste a free servant!" Daisy realized how shrewd Harold was.

At Gu family in D City

Benson was taking a bath in his bathtub. He leaned back and rested his head on the edge of the bathtub, closing his sharp eyes.

Carolyn's pretty face and attractive pink lips were on his mind. They had dominated his thoughts. He felt addicted to the taste of her lips. It was so good.

"Damn it! I can't stop thinking of that woman. Why?"

He didn't have an answer to the question.

Minutes later, he stood up and put on his clothes. Within seconds, he was out of the bathroom.

"Benson! Why didn't you tell me that you were back? I have been expecting you."

Claudia, Benson's grandmother, came up to him happily.

"I alighted from the plane not long ago," Benson replied.

Just then, a Samoyed dog quickly ran to meet him.

"Bunny!" Benson was smiling as he saw his dog. He picked it up and gently stroked its soft white hair.

Bunny was also pleased with its master's return. It began to rub itself intimately against his body.

"You haven't seen me for a long time. Do you miss me? I missed you." The cute puppy was like a snowball.

"How ingrate you are, Benson. You are happier to see your dog than your grandma!" Claudia was envious.

"Grandma, don't be childish," Benson said, giving her his affectionate smile.

"You won't be leaving this time, will you?"

"No, I won't."

Claudia became serious. "When will you give me a granddaughter-in-law? And a lovely great-grandson?"

"You drugged me because of it?" Benson looked at her in disbelief.

Claudia wondered how he knew. "You made me do it.

You're 28 this year, and I'm pursuing 80. I only have a son, and that is your father. You are his only son..."

"Well, Grandma, I have some business at the company. I have to be gone." Benson could not stand the nagging from his grandmother. He put Bunny down and ran away.
