Chapter 10 A Fatuous President

At Jiang Group

"Carolyn, I heard you had signed the contract with Seaside Real Estate?"

asked Bailee Su, Carolyn's best friend. She didn't believe it when she first heard the news.

"Mm-hmm." Carolyn smiled at her and winked.

"I knew you were capable of clinching the deal! You're my idol. But I was surprised you could accomplish such a difficult task." Bailee was full of praises for Carolyn.

"To tell you the truth, I don't know how I was able to sign the contract." Carolyn took a pen and tapped it on her forehead. "I think I made it by a stroke of fortune."

"I don't think you were just lucky, Carolyn. Don't say that. You are very capable!" Bailee said, complimenting her.

"If you say so, I will accept," Carolyn said with a smile.

Reyna was passing by, green with envy.

She leaned against the door frame of the office and mocked Carolyn. "What nerves, to be so smug! Was it not just a contract? I've closed several deals this month. It's just that I was unlucky not to be the one chosen to negotiate the contract. If I had gone, I would have clinched it!"

Bailee and Carolyn couldn't help but laugh with their hands stifling the outburst.

"Who says you can't do it? I believe in you. But you can only do it by sexual bribery," Carolyn said with much sarcasm.

It was common knowledge to Carolyn that Reyna was negotiating all her projects by trading her body for deals.

"Carolyn! You're nothing. Don't be so smug thinking you're anything. I succeed because I'm so attractive. I'm so much liked because I'm irresistible. Even Cohen loves me so much.

Why do you think he broke up with you right after we met?" Reyna felt good about herself that she liked showing off.

"What? She dared to steal your fiance?" Bailee was surprised by this piece of news. She looked at Carolyn, aghast.

"That's not what happened. I broke up with Cohen on my terms," Carolyn replied.

Bailee was speechless. It was shameless of Reyna to snatch her sister's fiance. Reyna wasn't even feeling any shame about it.

"Reyna! You're a bitch!" Bailee cursed, wringing her hands.

"Humph! Bailee, you better figure out Carolyn's position in the company and mine. You will not come to any good here if you try to offend me," Reyna said.

"Ah! I'm so scared right now! What should I do? Please, don't fire me!" Bailee said with a smile.

"Bailee!" Reyna was angry, but her powers did not extend to Bailee so that she could do nothing about her.

Although Bailee had an ordinary background and married into a second-class family, no one in Jiang Group dared offend her.

Justin M, who came from a first-class family in D City, was her backer. He had paid a special visit to Jiang Group to warn Olive not to offend Bailee. Otherwise, he would bankrupt her company.

"Why are you laughing, Carolyn? I'll punish you for it," Reyna said. Her anger was open for all to see.

Because Reyna could not do anything to Bailee, she decided to vent on Carolyn.

"Come on! I'm ready for you. You must be out of your mind if you think I'm scared. I haven't punished you for the last time you drugged me. Today is an opportunity to teach you a good lesson!" Carolyn rolled up her sleeves, prepared for a fight.

Her anger hadn't abated over how Reyna set her up. Although the five men did not succeed in raping her, she had lost her virginity to Benson. All because of Reyna's evil.

Reyna remembered the last time Carolyn had nearly beaten her to death. She took one look at Carolyn's sharp nails and became scared.

"Humph! I'm a graceful woman. I won't fight an uneducated woman like you!" Satisfied with her excuse, Reyna walked away.

"Look at her. She is a complete coward. I think your father must be blind to dote on her," Bailee said, standing up for Carolyn.

"It doesn't matter any longer. I'm used to it," Carolyn said, sighing.

Although she said so, Carolyn yearned for the love of her father. She had been working so hard so that he could praise her, but in Harold's eyes, she was still nothing.

Since her childhood, Harold had regarded her as an invisible being. He never paid attention to her, although she was hardworking and excellent.

Bailee changed the subject and said, "I wonder if they will put you in charge of the Seaside Real Estate project?"

"A supplier of all building materials! Wonderful! It will involve a lot of commission. It's a dream job! Such positions will never come to me." Carolyn shook her head. It was needless even dreaming about it.

"Don't think like that. No one dared negotiate the contract except you. They couldn't be able to sign it successfully if you had not gone. Won't it matter to Seaside Real Estate if you are not in charge of the project?" Bailee said.

"You are overthinking. It won't bother them who's in charge at all," Carolyn said.

At the Jiang family villa

"Grandma, will Carolyn be in charge of the Seaside Real Estate project?" Jerome asked, thumping Olive on the legs.

"Well, she signed the contract. I guess she should be in charge of the project," Olive said. She closed her eyes meditatively.

"No, that's not proper." Jerome disagreed with her. 'How could you easily give such a golden opportunity to Carolyn?'

"Carolyn doesn't consider us. She's devious. All she aims is to take back the legacy. By the way, it's a big project. If she sabotages it, we'll be in trouble with MC Group. That would put Jiang Group in great difficulties." What Jerome said made Carolyn look like a spy in the Jiang family.

"You're right, Jerome. We must be on guard against her," Olive said.

"Besides, Grandma, didn't you promise to make me your successor?" Jerome's voice was now affected and gentle.

"My dear grandson, I cannot be false to my promise," Olive replied.

"Then I need to be responsible for the project. It's a huge project. Otherwise, how can I establish my prestige in the company in the future?" Jerome was persistent.

Olive nodded. She saw reason with Jerome's assertion. "I think that makes sense. I will make you responsible for the project."

"Thank you, Grandma! I now know you love me the most." Jerome beamed.

He felt complacent in his achievement. The Seaside Real Estate project was a plum job, and he would benefit a lot from being in charge.

'Carolyn! No matter how capable you are, you won't go anywhere. You'll be working for nothing, and I'll get the fruits of your labor.'

In the CEO's office of MC Group

"Mr. Gu, are you going to spend a billion dollars on building the so-called Universe Company?" The thought made Luis speechless.

He felt that Benson was out of his mind. 'He'll build a company to supervise his construction site? Then we don't need the supervision department at all.'

"What? Can't I?" Benson looked at Luis with raised eyebrows.

"Mr. Gu, a billion dollars might not be much money to you, but it's money all the same. What do you want the company for?" Luis was earnest in his speech.

"For fun," Benson said, smiling at Luis. He was in a good mood.

He thought it would be fun to tease Carolyn. 'I haven't been happy for a long time. Isn't my happiness worth a billion dollars?'

His plan was unimaginable to Luis that it left him speechless.

'What a fatuous president!' Luis cursed in his mind.

"Mr. Gu, are you in love with Miss Jiang?" Luis asked.

Benson immediately denied it. "It's impossible! How could I fall in love with her? I want to tease her for fun."

'I have someone else in my mind.

How can I fall in love with Carolyn?' Benson thought.

Luis said nothing.

"Send a car to pick her tomorrow. From now, she will be working in Seaside Real Estate. In addition, set up a temporary office for me there."

Luis was aghast. 'He has spent millions of dollars dining with her, a billion dollars building a company, and now, he wants to work there. Is this just for fun, or is there something to it?'
