Chapter 9 A Disaster

Tina forcefully covered Anne's mouth with her hand to stop her from calling for help. Then, she put the stopper into the sink's drain hole and filled the sink with water. Blinded by jealousy, she dunked Anne's head into the water without a second thought.

"Mmm!" Anne swung her hands like crazy, struggling to get free, but this mad woman was too strong. Furthermore, both her mouth and her nose were filled with water, so she could not breathe. The lack of oxygen made her even more powerless to put up a fight.

She was really doomed this time. Anne cherished her life, and she never offended anyone. Unexpectedly, the precious life she guarded so much would end in the hands of a crazy woman she didn't even know!

She really wanted to protest the injustice she was experiencing. She hadn't done anything that warranted such a violent treatment.

Just as Anne thought she was dying, the door of the washroom was pushed open. The incoming person was naturally frightened by the horrible scene that greeted her. Her scream soon echoed in the entire washroom. "Ahh! Help! Help! Help!"

The scream forcefully drew Tina back to reality. The jealousy and resentment clouding her sanity seemed to disperse in an instant. She panicked and let go of Anne's head.

The woman's boyfriend, who was waiting for her outside, heard her scream and soon barged in anxiously. "Joy! Are you okay? What's wrong?"

Joy Feng looked extremely pale. She pointed at Anne, who had slumped to the floor, and said in a trembling voice, "There's a murder! Help! Go and see if that woman is still alive."

Jacob was relieved that his girlfriend was alright, but shocked to hear about what happened. He moved his gaze towards the unconscious woman on the floor. He pushed Tina away and helped Anne to her feet.

He smoothed away Anne's tousled hair from her face, and put a finger under her nose. A few seconds later, he finally sighed in relief. "She's still breathing. She was just unconscious."

He then tried to straighten Anne's position so she could breathe more smoothly. In the process, he took a second look at Anne's pale face. Right after he did so, he froze. The shock he felt was written all over his face. "Anne?"

A hint of anxiety flashed through his eyes. He shook Anne hard and called out, "Anne, Anne! Wake up! Wake up!"

In her half-conscious state, Anne seemed to see a familiar handsome face. She started coughing but managed to whisper between her coughs, "Jacob? Jacob..."

Before she could say anything else, however, she once again lost her consciousness.

"Yes, it's me. Wake up!" Jacob shouted as he hurriedly carried Anne out of the washroom. He hurried down the corridor and brought her to the grandstand outside the private room, intending to let her breathe some fresh air.

But his effort seemed to be in vain. Anne still lay limp in his arms. Overwhelmed with anxiety, Jacob decided to perform artificial respiration on her.

Before his lips could touch Anne's, however, someone grabbed the back of his collar and pulled hard, causing him to stagger backward and almost land on his butt. He didn't get the chance to see the culprit because the moment he gained his footing, a fierce punch landed on his cheek.

George wanted to have a smoke. When he went outside, however, he unexpectedly saw his wife lying unconscious in the arms of a strange man.

He saw red. There was nothing else in his mind besides rage, so he attacked without a second thought.

"What are you doing? Who are you? Why did you hit me?" Jacob held his cheek and glared at him. The corner of his lips was bleeding.

George pushed him away and took Anne into his arms. When he got a clearer look at Anne, whose face was paper-white and eyes were closed, his rage burned even fiercer. He asked menacingly, "What did you do to her?"

Jacob was worried about Anne and angry that he got punched for no reason at all, so his tone was naturally unpleasant. "It's none of your business! Who the hell are you? I don't know you!"

George's face darkened, and the air around him seemed to become colder.

He glanced at Jacob gloomily. "She is my wife. Do you still think it's none of my business?"

"Impossible!" Jacob refuted almost immediately. 'Anne only likes me. How could she possibly marry someone else?'

The confidence in Jacob's expression, as well as the certainty in his tone, infuriated George even more. He didn't argue, but a cruel smile was slowly formed on his face. He laid Anne on the sofa, stood up, and then swung another punch at Jacob.

"What did you do to her?" George said one word at a time through his gritted teeth.

When Jacob was about to fight back, Joy hurriedly ran over. George was standing with his back towards him, so she hadn't seen his face. Nevertheless, she did see him punching Jacob just now, so she hurriedly ran over. "Why did you hit him?"

The angry voice was so familiar that George was instantly rooted to the spot. A few seconds later, he finally came to his senses and slowly turned around. Sure enough, that familiar, bright, lively face came into his vision.

Joy's jaw dropped. She stared at George incredulously. "George?"

Jacob walked over and stood beside Joy, still covering his cheek with his hand. "Do you know him?"

Of course, she knew him. However, a cat seemed to have gotten her tongue. It was nothing strange, though. After all, this was her first time seeing a fight between her boyfriend and her ex, so she was also caught unawares.

No one spoke. While the three of them just looked at each other awkwardly, Anne let out a groan and weakly opened her eyes.

George immediately walked over and helped her to sit. The concern in his eyes was more than obvious. "Are you okay?"

But Anne didn't seem to hear him. Her attention was instantly drawn to Jacob's swollen face. She asked in surprise, "Who hit you, Jacob?"

Jacob helplessly pointed at George.

George looked at Anne gloomily. When he spoke, his tone was suffused with practically irrepressible anger. "Do you know him?"

Anne looked very embarrassed. 'Of course, I knew him. How could I not?' Her situation was almost the same as Joy's. This was also the first time she saw a fight between her husband and her ex, so she was a little flustered.

Anne took a deep breath to calm herself. She didn't know how George would react if he knew Jacob was her ex, so she didn't dare to tell him. After giving it some thought, she whispered in an aggrieved tone, "I just met a madwoman in the washroom. She tried to drown me in the sink. I thought I was going to die."

Joy chimed in, "I went to the washroom and saw a woman dunking her head into a fully-filled sink, so I shouted for help. When Jacob came, I asked him to carry her out and see if she was still alive." When she spoke, her gaze continued to shift back and forth between Anne and George.

Jacob did the same. He looked at Anne, at George, and then back at Anne again. It was as if he was speculating the credibility of John's statement. When he spoke, his voice was full of grievances. "I took her here so she can breathe some fresh air. She hadn't woken up even after a while, I was going to give her artificial respiration."

Anne's face flushed, and she cast a faint glance at George.

George cleared his throat awkwardly. "I thought he was going to assault you, so I punched him."

With a sigh, Anne spread out her hands and forced out a smile, trying to break the ice. "Well, everything was just a misunderstanding."

Unfortunately, George was uncooperative. His expression remained cold, but his anger seemed to have a new target now. He asked through gritted teeth, "Where is that woman now?"

"I called the police. The security guards took her away. She said she is my brother's girlfriend," answered Joy.

Anne hurriedly echoed, "Yes, it was her! I was about to fall at the J Grand Hotel today, and Jimmie helped me up. At that time, she rushed over and slapped me."

George stared deeply at Anne. Storms seemed to be brewing inside those dark eyes of his. "Why didn't you tell me?"

George put on his alpha-male demeanor while Jacob was still watching her; this made Anne feel embarrassed. She whispered, "I didn't know she was that crazy. Considering how mad she is, I think she'll be hostile towards any female creature Jimmie comes into contact with."

With a frown, George took out his phone and dialed Jimmie's number. Jimmie was unsurprisingly shocked and frightened to hear what happened. He said apologetically, "I know, George. I'll solve it. Um, I'll definitely give Anne an explanation."
