Chapter 10 He's My Ex

Without saying anything more, George hung up. He then turned to Jacob and Joy and said, "I'll take my wife home so she can change her clothes. I'll invite you to dinner another day. Thank you for saving her."

'How polite he is now!' Anne thought to herself.

But she didn't dare to say anything. Under George's deep and oppressive gaze, she was so guilty that she couldn't even raise her head. She took out her mobile phone, called Minnie, and told her to come out.

As a smart woman, Minnie immediately sensed that something was wrong. Moreover, Jimmie had been called away a long time ago. She didn't want to stay any longer, so she came out in just two minutes after receiving Anne's call.

As soon as Minnie came out, the first one she noticed was Jacob, who was standing aside with some bruises on his handsome face.

She walked over to him happily and looked at him up and down. Surprised, she exclaimed, "Wow, aren't you Jacob? What happened to you? Did you offend anyone? You were beaten so hard. Oh, my! How cruel that person was. How could he beat you like this?"

Minnie was so happy to see that Jacob was beaten up that she completely ignored Anne and George.

Jacob had a good temper, and he didn't argue with her. Instead, he touched her head and teased, "Long time no see, little girl."

Minnie quickly took two steps to distance herself from him. She then snapped, "I'm not a little girl. I'm just a few months younger than my cousin, okay? Don't try cottoning up to me."

Seeing that Minnie was beginning to make trouble, Anne hurriedly said, "Minnie, look here! Can't you see me? I've just experienced a thrilling life-and-death situation, and I almost died. You're still in the mood to joke? Don't you even care about me?"

It was only then that Minnie walked over to Anne's side. She looked at Anne, whose clothes were half wet, then to George, whose face was gloomy. Then a bold idea came to her mind.

Her eyes widened in horror, and her voice trembled with fear when she spoke. "Oh, my God! Did Jacob try to rape you? Was that the reason why George beat him up?"

Anne's face darkened. She was so embarrassed that she wished the ground swallowed her.

Filled with both guilt and embarrassment, she glared at Minnie and said in a low voice, "What are you thinking? Take your purse and go home now."

She then gave Jacob and Joy an apologetic smile and tugged the hem of George's shirt. The three of them went out with different thoughts in their minds.

When they arrived at the parking lot, George opened his wallet, took out one thousand dollars, and handed the money to Minnie. With a calm expression, he said in a slightly cold voice, "Minnie, take this money and treat yourself to a midnight snack. Then find a hotel for yourself. Just charge the bill to my name. I just have something to discuss with Anne alone."

Anne's heart skipped a beat when she heard the tone of his voice. She had a foreboding that something terrible was about to happen.

Sure enough, George drove the car at a fast speed, pulling a long face all the time. She felt like the car was going to take off.

Since he said nothing, she didn't dare to speak either. She sat in the passenger seat, trembling and frozen by the cold aura emanated from George's body.

When George parked the car in the garage, her legs were all weak. 'Damn it! I was almost murdered by a madwoman just now. But I was less afraid than I am right now!'

She unfastened her seat belt with her trembling hands, opened the door, and got out of the car. But before she could even stand firm, George rudely grabbed her wrist and dragged her into the house.

Anne was a slim woman, so she felt pain because of his grip. She was so anxious that her eyes turned red in an instant. She struggled hard to break free while shouting, "George! George, you're hurting me, you bastard!"

However, George only turned a deaf ear to her. He didn't let go of her until they reached the living room, and he pushed her down to the sofa.

"Sit down!" His expression was stern and cold.

Anne sat down awkwardly, lowered her head, and stared at her shoes.

"Do you know that man?" There was a hint of indifference in George's voice.

"Yes. I know him," Anne replied in a low voice.

"Who is he? How old is he? When and where did you meet him? How did you know each other? What's your relationship with him?" As he bombarded her with a series of questions, his voice got colder and colder.

Anne couldn't help but scold him inwardly, 'Damn you! Are you interrogating a prisoner?'

But of course, she couldn't say it out loud. Instead, she said, "Umm...it's been a long time. I can't remember it clearly. Can we just not talk about the past? There's a song that says, 'Let the past go with the wind.'"

Anne started to sing the song

as she spoke.

George leaned back, crossed his arms over his chest, and sneered, "You are only twenty-four years old. How can your memory be worse than mine? If you don't tell me now, I will find out the truth by myself. In that case, you should know better what the consequences can be."

He deliberately dragged his voice. It made her feel so uneasy that she felt like she was sitting on pins and needles.

Anne didn't want to lie. But she knew if she told the truth, she would be doomed.

Sometimes, women's intuition was right and turned out real.

George wasn't in a hurry. He swiped his finger on his phone, and an old song echoed in the living room. The lyrics matched the song that Anne had sung just now.

"I couldn't help but recall our past. I tried to let the past go with the wind, but it still makes my heart ache. You're like a beautiful dream that's hard to forget, deeply hidden in my memory..."

Before the song ended, George turned it off and threw his phone aside. He would lose his temper at any time.

He sneered, "It turns out that the answer is in the song. Anne, how dare you! Are you trying to cheat on me?"

Anne felt wronged. 'Damn! The past between me and Jacob was a nightmare.

I just sang a song casually. How could he find such a similar song?'

"No!"

For a few seconds, she was stunned. But when she recovered, she immediately explained, "Well, I just casually sang a song. It wasn't what I meant."

"What do you mean then?"

"He is my ex-boyfriend!" Anne closed her eyes and admitted it.

She'd better tell him the truth; she knew that she couldn't escape from it.

As soon as she finished her words, she felt that her chin was pinched. When she opened her eyes, she met George's cold gaze. She was inexplicably scared.

"Your ex-boyfriend?"

"Yes."

She subconsciously wanted to step back, but her waist was also held tightly by him.

George gripped her waist tighter and sneered, "Are you planning to go back together with him?"

"How can that be possible?"
