Chapter 6 Ten Thousand Dollars

'Humph! No way. I won't let you take back the money from me,' Anne thought. She stretched out her index finger.

Frowning, George asked, "100,000 dollars?"

Anne was so shocked that she leaped out of her chair. "Who do you think you are? 100,000 dollars? Bah! She gave me 10,000 dollars."

"Is my WeChat ID only worth ten thousand dollars?" George asked with a gloomy face.

Anne threw him a disapproving look. "Aren't you satisfied with that amount of money? Even if she only gave me one thousand dollars, I would give your WeChat ID to her."

Realizing what slipped off her tongue, she gradually lowered her voice. With a guilty conscience, she took a glance at George, who looked as if he would lose his temper at any moment.

He slowly leveled his gaze at her and said, "Go ahead. Why don't you finish your sentence? Would you give it to her as well if she gave you 100 dollars?"

"Of course not! I'm not that stupid. I wouldn't offend you for just 100 dollars," Anne blurted in her defense.

With a darkened face, George replied, "If someone were to pay you more than 100,000 dollars to kill me, would you do it? Just how short of money are you? Do I starve you? Do I give you so little for clothes?"

"This is all your fault!" Anne stomped her feet. George might be angry, but she was even more furious. After a brief pause, she said sadly, "Do you even know how much that dress you asked me to buy for tonight cost? 7,600 dollars! Do you have any idea how little my monthly salary is? Damn it! If I didn't have to buy this dress, I wouldn't have sold your WeChat ID for ten thousand dollars."

George was speechless. 'So is it my fault?' he asked himself.

He rubbed his temples and put down his phone on the table. He then asked coldly, "Where is the card I gave you?"

Anne raised her chin and said proudly, "A person with a strong sense of self-respect would rather die of hunger than be despised."

George sneered, "And you think it's upright to trade your husband for ten thousand dollars?"

Embarrassment flashed on Anne's face, but still, she replied stubbornly, "I earned it fair and square. Why shouldn't it be morally sound?"

George's eyes darkened. "You have another way to earn money. As long as you make me happy, you'll get more."

Overcome with embarrassment, Anne's face turned pale. She was about to snap at him when someone knocked at the door.

It must be the takeout she ordered! She gave George a menacing glare before exiting the room.

When she came back, she was carrying the set menu-two dishes and a bowl of soup. George still looked cross, as if she owed him millions of dollars.

Seeing this, Anne turned back and headed upstairs, taking the food with her. She went into the guest room and slammed the door behind her.

She placed the dishes on the tea table and was about to eat when she remembered something.

Angrily, she thought to herself, 'Humph! I am a person with a strong sense of self-respect.' She then fished her phone from her pocket and transferred 230 dollars to George.

Before she put aside her phone, she hesitated for a moment, only to transfer another 2,400 dollars to him. She gritted her teeth as she typed a message.

"I was wrong to sell your WeChat ID. I'll only take the money I used to buy my dress, and I'm giving you the rest. It's your choice whether you want to accept it or not."

After sending the message, Anne put her phone down and began to eat.

She cursed angrily, 'Damn it! 230 dollars for a meal? This is too extravagant! It's all because of that bastard, George!' Anne was thoroughly pissed off. She just couldn't get along well with him!

If she had known that he was this arrogant, she wouldn't have saved him. Still fuming, Anne thought to herself, 'How could he say those words to me? He went too far! I know we have an agreement, but this agreement is equally beneficial, isn't it? How could he act as if he's superior to me?'

The more Anne thought about it, the angrier she became. She took it all out on the food, which she was able to finish in a few minutes.

Patting her stuffed belly, she lazily picked up her phone to browse her WeChat Moments.

Then she saw two messages from George.

"Don't piss me off!"

"Anne Mo!"

'Humph, so what?' Anne deleted her messages.

She was feeling pleased when her phone rang. Shocked, she checked to see if the call was coming from George.

If he was calling, she would hang up without hesitation.

But instead of George's name, it was her cousin's that flashed on the screen. Minnie Mo was calling her.

"Anne, I had a fight with my parents. Can I stay with you for two days?" Minnie cried in an aggrieved tone.

Anne didn't feel like she could refuse. She was still furious mad at George. She planned to not to talk to him for at least a week, so that they wouldn't have sex. But Minnie coming to stay would make things difficult.

"Why did you quarrel with your parents again?" Anne sighed.

"Can you take me in?" Minnie raised her voice.

"Okay, okay. You can come. Take care on the road," Anne said helplessly.

After hanging up the phone, she thought about how she would have to patch things up with George and couldn't help but scream.

She screamed so loud that she actually scared the man. With a grim look, George knocked on the door and said, "Anne, stop making a fuss. Open the door."

'But I really want to make a fuss!' she thought. Anne felt as if her heart had broken into a thousand pieces.

After a few moments, she took a deep breath, walked up to the door and opened it.

"Are you done?" George asked in a cold but calm tone.

"I was wrong!" Anne threw herself at his feet and cried. "It's all my fault. I shouldn't have sold your WeChat ID, talked back to you, and eaten up your takeout. I'm sorry."

But deep down, she thought, 'I'm a smart person who knows when to eat humble pie.'

George stretched out his arm to pull her up and said casually, "Just don't do it again."

"I won't. Then, have you added Miss Liu on WeChat?" Anne asked as she observed George's expression.

George cast an icy gaze at her expectant eyes and replied, "Do you want me to add her or not?"

'Of course you have to add her!' She had taken her money after all. If he didn't add her, Anne would come out as a liar.

But she didn't dare to say it out loud. After hesitating for a bit, she finally spoke against her conscience. "I hope you won't add her."

One look at her pained expression was enough to tell that she was lying. But George, who had always been a smart man, seemed to actually believe her words.
