Chapter 3 What A Small World (Part One)

At this time, "the newborn calf", Evelyn, was sitting in the corner of a cafe. She lowered her head obediently and endured her friend's scolding.

"Usually you are as docile as a sheep, why do you suddenly become a lion? Why were you so impulsive? Do you know who he is? You are so stupid to lose your job! Now, put yourself in the shoes of the boss. If you are the CEO of the Sybil Hotel, would you put up with an intern's insults in front of your staff? While you're in the company, your fate is in his hands. Do you understand? You should learn to control your temper, okay?"

the woman in front of Evelyn said, rolling her eyes.

She had long curly hair, light make-up, and red lips. She continued her tirade.

"It's not easy to find a job in a reputed company. Why couldn't you seize the opportunity? You are an employee. Don't act like a spoiled child! Evelyn, do you want to go home and still live on your parents' income?" she added.

"No, I need to be independent. Otherwise, my parents will be very angry," Evelyn murmured.

"So just stop it before it happens." Evelyn's friend was exasperated with her behavior. However, her sullen little face had a special charm.

"Doris, can you put in a good word for me? Although I don't like Byron, I want to work in the Sybil Hotel!"

Doris Liang remained silent.

"If the Sybil Hotel hires me again, I will do anything you ask me to! Please help me, Doris!" cried Evelyn desperately

The woman took a leisurely sip of her coffee and raised her chin. "If I help you, how will you repay me?" she asked.

Taking a deep breath, Evelyn gritted her teeth and offered, "I will give you a hand with your graduate thesis."

Smiling brightly, Doris Liang said, "Okay, deal!"

Both of them had been hired by the Sybil Hotel originally. Evelyn had joined the Human Resources, while Doris Liang was assigned to the promising Planning Department.

As soon as she entered her department, she captured the hearts of many men with her outstanding appearance. Her new nickname was "the Miss Charming of the Planning Department." With Doris Liang's help, it was easy for Evelyn to return to the company. Doris Liang only needed to dress pretty or be coquettish, and men would fall over themselves to do what she wanted.

The next day, Mr. Yuan took a big risk and agreed to meet Evelyn.

She strutted into Mr. Yuan's office in high spirits once again. However, the Human Resources was in an uproar. The men gathered in the tea room for a wager. They bet that the manager would kick the intern out again. The odds were ten to one.

Compared to the hubbub outside, the atmosphere inside the office was particularly grim.

"Mr. Yuan, please give me a chance to make amends! I know I have offended the boss, but if you let me come back to work, I will personally apologize to him!" Evelyn begged.

The manager rubbed between his eyebrows as his head was throbbing by now. "Haven't you made enough trouble? The CEO has given an order. I'm just a small department manager. Even if you lend me your courage, I can't dare to allow you to come back!"

He didn't know what influence this girl had. She managed to convince Derek He, the head of the Financial Department, to speak for her personally. Derek He had promoted Mr. Yuan when he was young. That was the only reason he relented and met her.

However, disobeying the boss's order was equivalent to hanging a knife around his neck.

"Mr. Yuan, please! If you let me work here, I will do anything for you! I'll even pour tea, wipe the table, or clean the floors!" Evelyn pleaded again.

"Why are you so stubborn? I said no. Don't you understand? Don't make things difficult for me..."

Before he could finish his words, the internal phone on his desk rang.

So Mr. Yuan held back his anger and picked up the phone. "Hello? Yes, it's me. What? Today? You can send someone from the Room Service. What? You can't? Why? Why can't you do that? Oh, I see." With an embarrassed look on his face, the manager's eyes wandered around, looking for a way out of his predicament.

Finally, his eyes landed on Evelyn and his expression changed.

After hanging up the phone, Mr. Yuan asked tentatively, "Did you just say that you would do anything?"

Seeing that this was her way in, Evelyn nodded eagerly.

"An employee in the Logistics Department resigned two days ago. They are short of people for the time being. Do you want to join that department?" he asked.

"Ah, no problem!" Evelyn said firmly. The Room Service and Logistics Department used to belong to the same department earlier. Later, the general manager of the Sybil Hotel had divided them into two departments to improve the working efficiency and service quality.

The Room Service was only responsible for cleaning the guest rooms, while the Logistics Department was responsible for cleaning the floor, staircase, bathroom, and office cabins of the whole company.

Evelyn changed into the uniform given by the company-a light blue knee-length dress with a white collar and a white apron. She pulled her long hair up into a bun and put on a headscarf, revealing her smooth forehead. She looked smart, energetic, and ready to work.

"From today on, you will be in charge of cleaning mainly the twenty-sixth floor. The bathroom should be cleaned three times a day: once at 11 o'clock in the morning, then at 3 o'clock in the afternoon, and finally after work. Will you remember that?"

The manager of the Logistics Department handed her a printed schedule.

"Got it!" she replied enthusiastically.

"The company's management is very strict. If you are found to be lazy, you will be fined or even fired!" warned the manager.

As soon as Evelyn heard the word "fired", she couldn't help cowering a bit. She bowed slightly to the female manager and grabbed the mop and other cleaning tools, and walked to the elevator.

The elevator door opened with a ding and Evelyn walked in and pressed the button for the twenty-sixth floor. Seeing the floor indicator on the screen increasing, her heart sank rapidly.
