Chapter 3 The Beginning of Zara's misfortune

Zara is a 23 year old stunning young woman, with radiant smile and sparkling eyes that could light up the room,her long luscious hair cascades down her back, framing her heart shaped face and delicate features.

She is a gentle soul with a warm smile and caring demeanor, always putting others before herself, Her sweetness is genuine and infectious,her warm gentle smile and caring attitude makes her to be loved by everyone around her.

She works in a restaurant as both a chef and a waitress, taking up two jobs,with the hope of paying off her debt's,

she is loved by everyone in the restaurant,both her boss, her colleagues and some of their customers,who often gave her tips,she is often praised for her culinary skills.

one afternoon,a customer requested for a Chicken soup, and specifically said that it must be made and served by Zara,

After making the chicken soup,she went to serve the customer, but before she could put down the tray on the table,some of her neighbors from home, rushed into the restaurant,

Zara !!! Zara!!! One of her neighbor called out to her, running Into the restaurant,as if he is being chased by a wild animal,

"Come fast Zara,your brother Collins has just fainted and is being rushed to the hospital,he said panting.

What!!! She screamed out loud,she was immediately filled with fears that she didn't know when she spilled the bowl of chicken soup on the customer's dress,

"Look at what you have just done", you worthless piece of trash,the customer said angrily, standing up from her seat,

Am so sorry ma,it was an accident,I didn't mean to, I just panicked hearing about my brother's health, but she was cut off by a slap on her cheek,

"Do I look like I care about your pathetic little story", it's none of my business,do I look like I care about your brother,who is nothing but a worthless piece of trash,that you spilled this hot soup on my designer gown,the customer yelled at her

"This single dress could buy you and buy your entire generation", and you just ruined it,

"Am so sorry ma'am,it wouldn't happen again, she apologized getting on her knees",

"I don't need your apologies", I want to see your manager immediately,I want to complain about poor customer service that I received today and I promise you that when am done with you I will make sure that you are fired, the customer threatened her,

"Come on Zara there is no time,we have to get to the hospital as soon as possible",we need to see your brother immediately,her neighbor interrupted them,

"Yes please let's go immediately,she said getting up from the floor,am so sorry ma,but I have to go it's an emergency, she said running out of the restaurant immediately,

At the hospital

They took cab to the hospital, immediately she stepped into the hospital, she ran to the reception making enquiry about her brother

"Please am looking for my brother",his name is Collins ,he is a boy of seventeen years old,he had just fainted, please tell me where I can find him,she said in tears,

"Miss you have to calm down",yes there was a boy that was rushed in here a while ago, how are you related to him,she asked

"He is my younger brother",his name is Collins, please tell me where I can find him,

"Ok go through this corridor, take a right from there,he is in the fifth room,room 106, that's where you can find him the Nurse said,

"thank you so much",she said dashing out of the reception area,

She ran to the room,on getting to the room,she meet the doctor and she asked him

"Please doctor how is my brother?? What is wrong with him?? Why did he pass out?? Will be alright?? Please tell me doctor,

"Please calm down miss",who are you to the patient?? Let's step out we have to talk the doctor said.

"Am his elder sister, please tell me what is wrong with my brother,

"Okay please pull yourself together, well I have some questions to ask you,has your brother been feeling sick lately or complaining about any body pain or discomfort of any sort,

"Yes doctor he has been feeling sick lately and he has been complaining of body pains,she replied

"So what did you do about it?? Since you are his guardian,why didn't you bring him to the hospital since,the doctor scolded her,

"Am sorry doctor,we thought that it was not a big deal and that he would get well soon if he just took some medicines,we didn't have for the hospital bills, please tell me what is wrong with Collins she asked him,

"Well my dear you made a very big mistake", you should have brought him sooner,you should have brought him to the hospital the very first moment he complained about sick,the doctor scolded her

"Am sorry for all the questions", but am sorry to say that your have leukemia and it has advanced to the 3rd stage

and it could all have been avoided if when he noticed it earlier that you brought him to the hospital,we could have used drugs and maybe it would have done the trick,

"What leukemia!!,she said in a whisper, collapsing to the chair near by as she wept uncontrollably

"its's all my fault", I should have brought him to the hospital immediately when he started falling sick, what will I do in this world without Collins she lamented out loud crying so much,

"Miss you need to get a grip on your self",it can still be treated, leukemia is not a death sentence and I can proudly tell you that I have done many successful surgeries,so you don't have to worry your brother will be absolutely fine okay,

"Thank you so much doctor", how much will the treatment cost and it must be so expensive??she asked

"Yes it's quite expensive"but we have to wait for all his test results before we can schedule him for an operation, but be rest assured that, this is the right place for the operation,the doctor said.

"Okay doctor",thank you so much, but please can I please see my brother,I won't be at peace if I don't see him,she requested

"Yes,you can see him, but don't take too long in there he needs to rest", and one more thing, your brother will have to stay in the hospital,so we can monitor him very well, the doctor said.

"she opened the door slowly,she saw her brother lying on the bed,he had some many wires connected to him,the beeping of the machine could be heard across room,

"Hey sis he called out to her", walking slowly to his bed side,she couldn't stop her tears as they flow,

"Please forgive me little brother",I have failed in my responsibility and duties towards you, it's my fault that you are lying here today, please forgive me she said sobbing so hard

"What is wrong sis?? Why are you apologizing to me,you have done nothing wrong for you to apologize to me, you are the best sister anyone could ask for he said

"It's nothing,I promise you that I will do anything in my power to make sure that you recover as soon as possible,you are all that I have, she said

"But what is wrong with me", please tell me,he asked her

"But she just kept quiet wondering if to tell him",or not she was still in thought when he called out to her,

"Sis" what is the matter,he asked again, please tell me or I will start feeling restless he said

"Collins I need you to listen to me very attentively", and I promise you that nothing will happen to you,the doctor said that you have leukemia and that is the reason why you have been feeling sick lately, she said

"And am to blame for it", because if I have brought you to the hospital earlier,then this wouldn't have happened, she said bitterly,

"You don't have to blame yourself sis, it's not your fault,we are already in debt and I know that you couldn't afford the hospital bills,

"so please don't blame yourself about it", but what are we going to do am sure that the treatment for it must be very expensive,he said

"Yes it is indeed very expensive but we will find a way out and I promise you that nothing will happen to you,

"I would ask my boss for a loan",so that we can start with your treatment immediately she said

"But sis we are already owing your boss" and do u think that he would still lend us the money,he asked her

"I hope so,he is a good man and I believe that he will definitely help us out, she said confidently,

"I will leave you to rest the doctor said, that you have to stay in the hospital from now, okay please know the I love you so much and I will do everything in my power to make sure that you get well soon,

"and you know how my work is all about",I might not be able to come visit you everyday, but once I get the time I will definitely come visit you,

It's fine sis I understand how important your job is to us and I love you too sis, and you don't have to worry about me I will be fine and the nurses here will take good care of me,he said

I will leave you to rest, please take care of yourself, see you soon, she said stepping out of the room.
