Erik headed towards what he guessed to be the room of the person in charge of this orphanage.
Kay listened to the faint sounds of commotion until he saw, Erik coming out with a fat man who looked drunk kneeling beneath him.
The drunk man's face looked refreshed after he saw Kay who smiled in a creepy way at him.
"Young master, welcome. I didn't know if the duchy would be making a visit today. if only you gave us a heads up before coming here, I would have prepared a welcome for you."
The person in charge of the orphanage spoke respectfully to Kay, he gave a sharp look at the little girl who had previously opened the door for Kay.
For some reason Kay felt very angry, the fat man in front of him not only used the operating expenses of the orphanage for himself.
The fat man was also abusing the children in this orphanage. Even at a glance Kay could see that some parts of the body of a little girl who was looking at him were covered with bruises.
Kay looked at the fat man who had an even worse personality than him.
"What for?"
Kay's cold voice managed to make the man confused.
"Do I, as the young master of this territory need to announce my arrival to a lowly human like you?"
Goosebumps. All over the fat man's body, Tom got goosebumps at Kay's indifferent speech.
Tom clucked his tongue internally, Kay Alaxsander, the first son of Marquis Hugo who was famous as a troublemaking brigand.
A nobleman with a bad attitude not much different from his own, Tom could not accept insults from someone as bad as himself.
But he endured it, Kay's position as the son of the regional ruler was higher than him who was just a commoner.
"I know, I'm a troublemaking brat. But you know what this brat hates? I hate humans like you the most, not only do you use the orphanage's operational money for yourself, you even abuse the little children here, how lowly you are."
Tom looked at Kay with a questioning look. How could Kay know about that.
Tom had committed his crimes as thoroughly as possible. He even shared the orphanage's operating money with Marquis Hugo's messenger who gave the orphanage operating money every month.
That person couldn't have leaked it to Kay, so how did the young master who only caused trouble every day know such an important thing.
"Are you ordering me to find out about your rottenness?"
Kay smiled, a smile that even managed to make Erik shiver and swallow involuntarily.
"I won't tell him, not until you get the punishment you deserve for what you did."
Kay looked towards Erik before he again spoke.
"Tie this bastard's body tightly so that he can't do anything. And after that, give bread to all the children here and take the fresh ingredients to the kitchen to have the people in charge of cooking make a delicious meal for their dinner."
Kay said all he needed to say before walking to the second floor of the orphanage.
"Yes, young master, I'll do it."
Erik's voice sounded more excited than before.
Kay ignored the group of children who had been silently looking at his direction with admiring gazes. Some children who Kay guessed were about the same age as his younger brother even looked at him with a look of gratitude.
Kay hated that gaze, it was a gaze that Kay often saw while on the battlefield. The gaze of the soldiers that was always shown to Enzo. It weighed on him.
"Let's just ignore it, I just came to pick up the items left behind by the God of Balance. Everything will return to normal after the day passes and those boys won't remember anything about me," Kay said in his mind.
Kay walked leisurely towards the second floor, he stopped at the most corner room there.
Kay opened the door in front of him, jerking when he saw the old woman looking right at him. The old woman seemed to have been waiting for Kay's arrival.
Kay felt anxious as the old woman smiled gently at him. That gaze, the old woman's gaze towards him was even more disturbing than the gaze of the orphanage children that Kay saw below.
Kay wondered in his mind what exactly was going on right now.
He had come to make a deal with the old woman in front of him. But the old woman was looking at him in a different way.
Kay was silent in the open doorway with a stoic face. Until the old woman started talking to him.
"Did you bring my favourite food? Can I eat it? I'm very hungry right now."
The old woman spoke with a smile on her face. That smile reminded him of Simon for some reason. Kay felt goosebumps before he walked towards the old lady.
Kay took the chair near the old lady's bed, handing the food he had bought earlier to the old lady who really looked like she hadn't eaten in a long time.
"Please eat slowly, I'll buy you new food if it's not enough for you."
Kay spoke indifferently, even so he handed a glass of water to the old lady who was choking on the food.
The woman laughed a little before resuming her meal. Kay waited quietly for the old lady to finish her meal.
"Thank you for the meal, I know the young master must have important things to discuss with me for you to come in person to a slum like this."
Kay smiled, he liked this old woman. without having to talk, the old woman immediately asked the purpose of Kay's arrival.
"I want to make a deal. I will arrest that bastard who embezzled the orphanage's operating funds. I also intend to appoint you as the new person in charge and I will also ensure that the orphanage gets enough money every month. In addition, the children who are starting to grow up will be taught to read and write. They will also be taught some basic skills so that they can live independently and find a job that suits their skills when they grow up."
Kay felt confused as the old woman in front of him said nothing.
In any case, the deal Kay had offered the woman was perfect.
There was no reason for the old woman to refuse the deal Kay had given her.
A frown appeared on Kay's face as he heard the sound of loud laughter.
The old woman who had remained silent for a while started laughing like crazy. Kay put on a stoic face and waited until the old woman was done with her madness.
'I don't think this is for real.
The old woman looked at him with a look of admiration and gratitude. Kay realised there were things he didn't know at the moment.
"Young master, would you like to hear an interesting story"
The old woman asked Kay who still looked confused. Kay didn't want to do that troublesome thing. He didn't want to hear the old woman's nonsense story in front of him.
Even so Kay nodded his head in slow motion. The old woman smiled before she began her story.
"I had a very strange dream last night. I've been so desperate, there's been no food for almost three days. The poor children are starving and at the same time the person in charge of the home is spending money on gambling and alcohol. I also thought I was at my limit, I thought I was going to die last night."
Kay couldn't understand death being such a horrible word for Kay who had experienced it once. And the old lady in front of him was even talking about death very calmly.
As if death didn't mean anything to her. Dead or alive, Kay could feel that the old woman didn't care about either.
"At that moment for the first time in my life, I prayed to the Gods. If they really existed wouldn't my desperate prayer be heard?. With that belief I prayed for God to send his miracle to this place, I don't care if I live or die but at least the children in this orphanage should have a decent life."
Kay could feel the sadness that was clearly reflected in every word the old woman spoke.
A decent life, Kay remembered the soldiers on the battlefield who risked their lives for the same desire. For a decent life for their children.
A life without war, a life where children can grow up without pain. It was the same wish as the old woman in front of him.
"At that time I dreamt that someone would come and ask for the precious things I had. In return he said he would give me whatever I wanted. Do you know what I want young master?"
Kay was silent for quite a while before he casually answered the question of the old lady in front of him.
"I don't know mum."
"My wish, all my wishes are what you just offered me, young master."
The old woman smiled at Kay's blunt reski, she picked up a box that she always kept under her pillow.
The woman handed Kay a black box that looked very luxurious.
"This is the most precious thing to me. after I decided to stop being a witch to take care of the children, I put all the mana I had into this necklace. if you are worthy then this necklace will recognise you as the owner. I can guarantee that this necklace will be an infinite source of mana for you and it will help you to get what you need."
Kay could not help but smile on his face as he opened the small box. Just as he had hoped, a cross-shaped necklace that looked very luxurious was nicely tucked inside.
"I got it."
