"Good morning, Mr. Harris." Lany said.
"Good morning, Lany."
"Nice meeting you, Mr. Harris. I'm Liz."
"It's nice to meet you, Liz."
"That's the video tape that Liz found, Mr. Harris." Megan said.
They sat in the living room. Mr. Harris was staring at the video. Megan put the shotgun carefully in the gun cabinet.
"Is she your daughter, Mr. Harris?" Liz asked without hesitation.
Lany punched her lightly on the shoulder.
"I'm sorry, Mr. Harris. We don't want any trouble." Lany said.
"It's my daughter, Sydney. She loves to capture everything happen to her life. She always help her mother doing crochet."
"She's a sweetheart." Lany said.
"Always in my heart." Mr. Harris said.
He removed his glasses, revealing the tears in his eyes. Megan gave a glass of water to him.
"Thank you, Megan." Mr. Harris said.
"I'm sorry but she died because of the illness?" Liz asked.
"Who told you that?" Mr. Harris asked.
"Leo. He's your nephew?" Megan asked.
"You managed to open the portal, I see." Mr. Harris said.
"They even opened the portal. We saw the world, Mr. Harris." Liz said.
"We just saw through the window not the majority." Lany said.
"Now you know that the other universe exists, you have to keep this to yourselves. It's for your sake." Mr. Harris said.
"Did Sydney die from illness?" Megan asked.
"That is a lie. My daughter didn't die from an illness. It was the chip that inserted inside her brain and eyes. I will not forget what they've done to her."
"That's cruel. That Leo the scientist was lying all this time." Lany said.
"He still keeps silent about the murder of my daughter. He saw the doctors doing it, it was his grandfather's order."
"I don't give a shit if he's scared, he should speak up, man." Megan said.
"How did you know this world?" Liz asked.
"I bought this house when I was in college. I have savings and I took the opportunity. Things started to get weird. I suddenly started to vanish. When I opened my eyes, I saw her, Lorraine."
"Is she your wife?" Lany asked.
"I fell in love with her and we got married after. She took me to explore her world, and I was amazed. We started to plan a family together. She gave birth to our little Sydney. It was the best day of my life."
They all went silent for a moment.
"When Sydney turns 18, Lorraine's father, orders to make her as his apprentice. He saw potential in my daughter."
"What potential?" Liz asked.
"To rule their universe. To have a loyal guards besides him."
"He has a god complex too." Lany said.
"The surgery on my daughter started without my permission."
"How about your wife, does she know?" Liz asked.
"She knows everything. She's afraid of her father."
"Nah, that's fucked up. That's her daughter, and she didn't even bother to save her. She's part of the problem." Megan said.
"I understand her."
"Why would you understand her? She just watched your daughter to die." Liz said.
"That's enough. You don't know her side." Mr. Harris said.
"Why are you defending her? Don't accept excuses when someone does terrible things to you. They don't have conscience and just filter their guilt." Megan said.
"Lorraine cried all night that she couldn't save her own daughter. Her father force her to watch it and warned her if she did not obey, I will die too."
"Man, why didn't you just said that earlier. We already said something bad to her." Liz said.
"Yeah, he's a fucking terrible, motherfucker, and cruel father that I have ever heard in my whole life. How could she do that to her own blood? Lany said.
"If money is evil, that man is hell." Megan said.
"Lorraine took her own decision. She knows that it will not gonna work to beg for mercy of his father, he will gonna kill our daughter no matter what. She saved me."
"Did she get back you here and never open the portal again?" Megan asked.
"She sent me back. I never saw her after ten years of my daughter murdered."
"I'm really sorry to hear all of this, Mr. Harris." Megan said.
"My daughter sacrificed herself for me to live longer than her."
Mr. Harris started to cry. They let him be fine again.
"Your daughter is not just an angel but a brave soldier. I respect that." Megan said.
"I'm sure she's guiding you all the time, Mr. Harris." Lany said.
"I'm just glad that you didn't burn the tape." Mr. Harris said.
"Why should we burn it, it was a treasure." Megan said.
"I tried to burn the tape many times, but I didn't. It was the last record that I could save before I completely vanished to their world. It hurt to see my daughter smiling in the video and knowing that she's already gone."
Lany hugged Mr. Harris.
"You remind me of my Dad. He always protect me from my Mom sandals." Lany said.
"That's a good one." Mr. Harris said.
Megan gave the video tape to Mr. Harris.
"You should keep it, Mr. Harris. Its the only way you can at least see your daughter, happy." Megan said.
"Thank you, Megan. Keep the shotgun too, just in case."
"I will." Megan said.
"Thank you for the free shotgun, Mr. Harris." Lany said.
"I'll get you one too, don't worry."
"Have a safe trip, Mr. Harris."
"I'll get yours, too, Lizzy."
"Now that's a new nickname for our Lizzy." Lany said.
"Fuck you, Lany. Respectively." Liz said.
"Thank you for this talked. It really helps me to recover." Mr. Harris said.
"I'm glad to hear that, Mr. Harris. Be safe." Megan said.
They bid goodbye to Mr. Harris and he left relieved.
"I almost forgot that we have jobs." Lany said.
"When's will your shift start, Meg?" Liz said.
"Night shift, around 7 PM to midnight."
"Aight, I'll be here by midnight. I have to go to work now." Liz said.
"Can I hop in your car, Lizzy?" Lany asked.
"Fuck off, just walk." Liz said.
"Come on, the bus stop is too far."
"Don't call me Lizzy, do you understand?"
"What wrong with it?"
"It's sounds like a fucking lizard."
Lany and Megan laughed.
"I'm done." Liz said.
"Come on, Lizzy. It's not a big deal." Lany said.
"Alright, you two. Get the fuck out of my house." Megan said.
Lany still teasing Liz while leaving.
It's afternoon when someone knocks on Megan's door. It was Mrs. Sully holding a casserole and a burrito in a small tupperware.
"Megan, I made a casserole and a chicken burrito. You gonna like it." Mrs. Sully said.
"Come on in, Mrs. Sully. I've been waiting this for my whole life."
"Did you eat a lunch already?" Mrs. Sully asked.
"Just coffee. I don't have grocery yet."
"Go get some groceries by tonight, Megan. Don't starve yourself, eat food. It's your source of energy."
"Thank you, Mrs. Sully."
Mrs. Sully advises Megan to restock her fridge every end of the month and scold her to eat plenty food at the right time.
"You remind of my son. He's too lazy to cook and didn't even bother if there's no food in the kitchen. He likes to starve himself to death. But luckily, I taught him to cook and he always carries the lesson." Mrs. Sully said.
"Where is he now?" Megan asked.
"He's on another country. He's a pilot."
"That's so cool. I've always wanted to be a pilot."
"Do you want to meet him?"
"Sure, Mrs. Sully. That be great."
"I will tell him to ask you for a date."
"What? You got me there, Mrs. Sully."
"Well, you look good together. It's not going to hurt if you will gonna be our daughter in law."
"I appreciate that, Mrs. Sully. You know, I don't really have a plan to get married right now."
"You're in a right age, why not? I get it that it is your life, I don't have a business to do so. I'm just saying, don't waste your bloodline."
"Don't worry, Mrs. Sully. It's not just time yet."
"My son is always available."
They laugh. Mrs. Sully bids goodbye to go to her house. Time passes by; it's already her shift for tonight. Megan drives far away to get back to her work.
