Chapter 5 The Gateway

Megan parks the car inside the garage. Liz and Lany went to the living room and started playing the tape again.

"This is amazing and scary at the same time." Liz said.

"I ain't gonna lie, those flying cars are so dope." Lany said.

"If ever this world exist, I'm in." Liz said.

"I'm out, like Megan said. It's like a dystopian shit society." Lany said.

"Well, it's worth a shot to explore their world." Liz said.

"It's risky but I'm curious about what the fuck is going on there." Megan said.

"I dunno, it feels like there doing some shit and just fooling their people." Lany said.

"Let's not think for the worse. You're to quick to judge." Liz said.

"I have a six sense, didn't you know?" Lany said.

"Yeah, yeah, funny." Liz said.

It's night already. Megan and Liz cook steak and pasta. Lany puts wine on the table. After dinner, Liz and Lany went to the living room. Megan went outside to smoke. While she's outside, the surroundings started to glitch.

"What the fuck?!" Lany said.

Megan heard Liz and Lany cursing each other out. When she went back to the door, it started to change.

"Lucky, I'm here." Tha man said.

"Leo?" Megan asked.

"You again, little fella." Leo said.

"What did you do?" Megan asked.

"Am I an open book? You read me so quickly."

"I'm serious."

Leo went quiet for a second.

"We should talk inside. I'll explain everything." Leo said.

Leo scanned his index finger to the side of the door. They went inside. Liz was holding a bat and Lany was behind. Fabian and Sandro were apologizing. Vincent and Benjamin were sitting on the couch.

"I know you. You're the tool guy who's borrowing a tool in a fucking midnight." Megan said.

"Great, Vincent." Sandro said.

"I don't know what to say." Vincent said.

"Ladies, let's all calm down. We're not gonna hurt you." Fabian said.

"Better not." Lany said.

"So this is the fucking dystopian world, right?" Liz asked.

"You're right. Welcome to our world, visitors." Vincent said.

"We're not visitors, we didn't fucking expect the invitation." Lany said.

"I'm really sorry about that, we didn't know that you guys was in Megan's house." Benjamin said.

"So you fucking planned it. You want to abduct my cousin?!" Lany said.

"No, not like that. We don't have a bad intention." Sandro said.

"What's the reason?" Megan asked.

"Megan, you opened the portal." Fabian said.

"Unintentionally." Vincent said.

"What the fuck are you talking about?" Megan asked.

"You sent a signal through the portal while you were asleep. It recognized your energy and sent you to this world." Leo said.

"How the fuck did that happened? I don't remember that I send a shit." Megan said.

"Well, you're sleeping that time." Vincent said.

"Let's say, the telepathy you send to the portal. It recognized you as our people. That you belong to this world." Leo said.

"This is fucking ridiculous." Megan said.

"Get us back right now through our real world. It's giving a fucking weird vibes here." Lany said.

"Don't worry, the clock to your world is not moving. It's like nothing happened when you get back there." Leo said.

"That's cool and interesting." Liz said.

"I ain't gonna lie, I agree with that but I'm getting goosebumps here." Lany said.

"Oh I forgot to turn off the AC." Vincent said.

"Motherfucker. You could've just said that earlier." Lany said.

Liz was still holding the bat, and Lany tried to peek out the window.

"Who are you people?" Lany asked.

"We're guardians of the Gateway. We obliged to protect the portal. Everyone can access it but only to teleport to our neighbor planets." Sandro said.

"Not the alternate universe." Fabian said.

"And yet we're here." Lany said.

"There's a malfunction that cause the portal to send a signal from the other universe." Leo said.

"So, to this universe, earth doesn't exist?" Liz asked.

"Yes, we only have a hundred planets here." Benjamin said.

"Why you're saying it's not a big deal. It's hundreds, that is too much." Lany said.

"The other neighbour universe has a thousand planets." Benjamin said.

"You have a hundreds of neighbor planets and a neighbor universe. So, our solar system doesn't exist here?" Liz asked.

"Not at all." Benjamin said.

"This is wild." Lany said.

"I can't believe it. This is fucking awesome." Liz said.

"Nah, not to me." Lany said.

"It's understandable." Benjamin said.

Megan lit a second cigarette and stood at the window.

"Are you okay, Meg?" Liz asked.

"No, I'm not okay."

"It's not our intention to hurt none of you. I'm really sorry." Fabian said.

"I'm so sorry to hear that, Megan." Leo said.

"What do you know about Mr. Harris?" Megan asked.

They all went silent for a second.

"He's the owner of your house. He's my Uncle." Leo said.

"This is crazy." Lany said.

"You're right, Meg. He lives here." Liz said.

"No, he's from your world. He just met my Aunt and things got wrong." Leo said.

"What a revelation." Lany said.

"They have a daughter?" Megan asked.

"She died ten years ago." Leo said.

"How did she die?" Megan asked.

"Illness, we couldn't save her. The virus spread out to her veins and controlled her brain. It was terrible." Leo said.

"What virus?" Megan asked.

"It's a killer virus that enters the bloodstream. It's called viremia." Leo said.

"We will have a talk with Mr. Harris tomorrow. I'll confirm that to him." Megan said.

"What do you want to talk about with him?" Leo asked

"Anything that we don't understand in your world. The portal is not clear to me. Did I just send a signal through it? I need a straight answer. Maybe someone did it." Megan asked.

"I understand that your worried. But we don't have a bad intentions to you and to your friends." Fabian said.

"We're not worried about your intentions. We just don't know the side of the story." Megan said.

"Yea, so can we go back now?" Lany asked.

"Yes, of course. As you wish." Sandro said.

"Megan, don't worry." Leo said.

The house started to glitch. It finally went back to normal.

"Holy Jesus, Mary and Joseph!" Lany said.

"It's fucking incredible Meg, but they're all suspicious too." Liz said.

"We have to find that out to Mr. Harris tomorrow." Megan said.

"As we should." Lany said.

"I just hope that he's have the answer." Liz said.

"Just in case, do we have to mention his daughter?" Lany said.

"In a right time. We just have to be respectful. No cursing." Megan said.

"Aight." Lany said.

"I can live with that." Liz said.

They went outside to catch some air. Mrs. Sully joined them for smoking. After a while, they all went back inside to rest. It was a crazy night for them.
