Quin, still observing Emily from afar, decided to order her something light. He dialed the number of the nearby café and placed the order, instructing them to deliver it to Emily's desk.
Emily suddenly slumped forward, her head hitting the desk with a soft thud. Quin's eyes widened in surprise as he rushed towards her, his instincts taking over.
"Emily!" he exclaimed, shaking her gently. "Emily, wake up! Are you okay?"
But she didn't respond. Quin's face twisted with concern as he lifted her into his arms, cradling her like a child. He strode out of the office.
Emily's eyes slowly opened, her gaze blurry and unfocused. She tried to sit up, but a wave of dizziness washed over her, forcing her back onto the pillow.
"How are you feeling." Quin asked sitting next to her.
"Where...where am I?" she stammered, her voice hoarse from sleep.
Quin's face came into view, his eyes watching her with a mixture of concern and curiosity. "You're at my house," he said, his voice low and soothing. "You passed out at the office last night, so I took you here, had my doctor look after you and I brought you here to rest. Here you need to stay hydrated." Quin said while giving her a bowl of soup.
"Shoot! I nee..... I need to.... what's time is it? I need to ummm" she stammered, tears rolling down her cheeks her the same time.
"You need to rest , just don't think about work for one minute. Hey what's wrong?". He asked her, voice soft with concern.
"Hmmm your grand mom isn't even here right now. You don't have to be so kind to me, I don't want to make it a habit of it."
"You can if you want to." Quin said.
"I appreciate, but I can take care of myself, I just need some rest and then I'll be good." Emily said.
Quin stood up and left Emily alone in the bedroom.
The next day, Emily attacked her work with renewed energy and focus. She felt fresh and new, like a weight had been lifted off her shoulders.
"Heyyy Emmie, welcome back. Are you feeling better." Lucy asked while smiling at each other.
"Yeah I'm getting right back into it too, I just need some rest and then i will be good." Emily said smiling back at her.
"You never learn, don't you?! You literally just got back." Lucy was concerned about Emily's health.
"I'll be fine." Emily said while continuing what she was doing.
As Emily walked home from work, she heard a familiar voice calling out her name.
"Hey! Emily, wait up!
She turned to see Jamie.
"Jamie Hi! What are you doing here?"
Clutching her worn leather handbag and sporting her signature silver hair bob, Quin's grandmother stood at the doorstep, a warm smile spreading across her face.
"Quin, dearie, it's so good to see you!" she exclaimed, as Quin's eyes widened in surprise.
"Grandma! Is everything okay? What are you doing here?" Quin asked, ushering her into the house.
"I just thought i would visit my grand kids besides my house is being renovated so i thought i would stay here for a bit," she replied, her eyes twinkling with mischief.
Quin chuckled, helping her with her coat.
"Look you should have told me you were coming, I would have picked you up." Quin said
His grandmother's eyes sparkled with curiosity. "And what about that lovely Emily, Is she taking care of you too?"
Quin's face flushed, and he cleared his throat, trying to play it cool. "Grandma, Emily's not here right now because she's at work."
But his grandmother just winked. "Oh, right now? Quin you married a workaholic just like yourself. I was hoping she would be here . She's such a delight to talk to.
"Sure, uh, I'll give her a call."
Quin dailed Emily's number, his fingers drumming a gentle rhythm on the armrest as he waited for her to answer. But the phone rang and rang, finally going to voicemail. He hang up and stared at his phone, wondering why she isn't picking up his calls.
