Emily felt a surge of unease as he approached her. She tried to step back, but her feet seemed rooted to the spot.
"Uhmmm....I......I need to get back to work." She said while rushing towards the door.
"I believe in you Emily, do not worry about the result i would not kick you out of the company even if you lose". Quin said.
Emily quickly opened Quin office door and hurried back to her desk. "Pull yourself together Emily, you have to a case to win." She said to herself.
The dimly conference room was shrouded in an air of secrecy, and the team was gathered in the conference room for their weekly meeting. Emily fidgeting with her pen, her eyes fixed on the speaker of that week as she leaned back in her chair.
The door swung open and a young man walked in, his confident stride commanding attention. He was likely in his early twenties, with a lean, athletic build and a mop of messy brown hair that fell across his forehead. His bright blue eyes scanned the room, sparkling with a hint of curiosity. He wore a fitted white shirt, sleeves rolled up to reveal toned forearms, and dark jeans that accentuated his long legs. A silver watch glinted on his wrist, and a faint scent of cologne trailed behind him.
"Evening, my name is Jamie. Let's start.
Two workers discussing about Jamie as he walked in;
"He's cute"
"Do you think he's single?"
Emily's eyes widened in surprise. "Was it not the same man I helped at the hospital this afternoon, I must be day dreaming. She cleaned her face.
"Jamie?"
Now if you open your book to the chapter on copyright infringement....... Jamie had already started the conversation in the meeting.
After the meeting Emily was still surprised to see Jamie as he approached her, his smile growing more pronounced.
"Hey, Emily, I was wondering if I would run into you again, I still want to thank you for helping me out at the hospital." he said, his voice low and smooth.
"It was no big deal Mr. Jamie." Emily said.
"No, not for you ,no body else was going to stop to look at me that day, only you were kind enough." Jamie said to Emily.
Emily smiled, feeling a sense of connection to this strange. "No need to thank me, Jamie. I'm glad I was there to help
"I...I learned a lot today, thanks for doing this." Emily said.
"Well I would not run into you if I wasn't........uhmmmn, can I........ can I have your number?
The next day at work, Emily sat at her desk, her fingers flying across the keyboard as she typed with full concentration. She was determined to win the case.
"Do you plan to eat or sleep?" Lucy asked Emily.
"Look here, there is so much to do! Look I need to do more extracurricular if I want a shot at beating Tina. Emily said to Lucy, her fingers still flying across the keyboard.
Lucy left Emily and went for her own break.
Emily spent the entire day searching for any information that could help her win the case. She scoured the internet, poured over legal documents, and even made a few discreet phone calls to sources she had cultivated over the years.
As the sun began to set, Emily's eyes felt gritty from staring at screens and her mind was numb from processing so much information. But she refused to give up. She was determined to find a shot at beating Tina and win the case.
"Are you okay?" You are not going to your class tonight right? Please tell me that you are taking a night off." Lucy asked Emily.
"I'm heading home, okay but I do need to work on this case a bit before I go to bed." Emily said.
"Emmie, you have to relax. You are just burning yourself that way." Lucy said to Emily.
"I am so close, I really am like... I can .... I can feel it, I just....... uhmmmn.... just don't worry." Emily said sounding all confused and tired.
"Okay" Lucy leaned in and plaited a gentle kiss on her cheek. Emily's heart fluttered at this sweet gesture.
"We are sure and I know we are going to win this thing". Lucy said while walking away.
Unbeknownst to Emily, Mr. Quin was watching her from across the room, his eyes fixed intently on her. He leaned against the wall, his arms crossed, a mixture of curiosity and suspicion etched on his face.
As he observed Emily, he couldn't help but notice the determination in her eyes, the fire in her soul. She was a formidable opponent, one who wouldn't back down easily.
