CHAPTER 05 – Conry felt something

Theron's POV

I came out from the library to walk into the office room. I took a new office room after the appointment as the Alpha. I sat on the large office chair and leaned to its' back gathering my fingertips.

"Are you thinking about the human girl?" Conry mind-linked me.

"She has a name, Conry and why should I think about her?"

"I can sense you. You can't lie to me."

In the pack, there are hundreds of humans living and I don't know them personally. This girl, her words, being so straight to speak to the Alpha, was something that impressed me. The most heart-capturing words of hers were, first give respect and then expect it.

The points she raised yesterday and about Hattie being rude to her were very important things to be taken care of, but the way she addressed the issue was not how anyone should speak to the Alpha.

"Conry, stay back. I have enough duties to do as the Alpha" I cut the mind link since Conry was a great wolf for a conversation. He was ready to accept the Alpha title at any time. His patience, his bravery, his knowledge about his pack and the humans, and how he deals with the issues impressed me and I was honored and blessed to have a wolf like that.

I sense the presence of the former Alpha, my father on the other side of the door. Before he knocked, I called him.

"You knew, I was here" Father entered the room with a gentle smile.

Since he handed over the Alpha title and duties to me, he respects me as though I was his son. He always believed that as wolves we should respect the line of authority. That could be a reason for a healthy future for the pack.

"You don't need to come and wait until I call you father. You can come in at any time" I stood up as soon as he entered the room.

"Oh, come on Theron. You are the Alpha, I should respect the title, like you respected me when I was the Alpha!" Though he was my father, he was still handsome and looked young like my brother. There's a secret of being a wolf, we hardly get aged. After our twenties, our aging becomes very slow.

"How come you here father?" I sat back offering him the front seat of my table.

"I came to see you and how you are doing your duties as the Alpha. Is there anything that you want to discuss or is there anything that you want to clarify or did you get stuck somewhere when you were performing your duties" I am still new to the duties, so he comes to check on me once a day as a habit.

Should I tell Father about yesterday? or should I not? What will he think about me? He might think that I was not capable enough to handle a tiny human girl! Nah, better to keep my mouth shut. I determined mentally.

"Father, I had a few questions about the proportionate we allocate for health in humans" I showed him the file with the figures.

"What's wrong with it?" He gave a glance at the numbers and ignored them like it was not a big deal.

"I mean, why don't we allocate some more towards the wolves also?" I asked keeping the file back on the table and Father gave me a simple smile curving the left side of his lips.

Was that a mocking smile? Did I ask something stupid? I started to feel ashamed of what I asked.

"Alpha, with all due respect...." When he started calling me Alpha and gave me a serious look I knew that his answer was going to be mature and a weighted one.

"I would like to give you a piece of advice if you give me permission"

"Father, you don't need to ask for permission. I am your son" he clicked his tongue and scoffed a smile.

"The first thing you should remember is that you are the pack's Alpha! Everything comes after that. The specialty of our pack was, that we are not just a wolf pack, we have humans also. You are the leader of both parties. Humans are fragile and emotional, if you are going to treat wolves first or give priority to wolves, then there will be some serious issues and conflicts"

When my father was speaking about treating both parties equally my mind triggered something about yesterday. Wasn't that the same thing she was talking about at school?! Treating equally!

"Alpha. Are you listening to me?" He cleared his throat since he felt that I was in another world.

"Can I talk to you about something very important?" I asked and at the same time, Hattie came into the office room.

"Hattie, didn't I advise you to knock on Alpha's door before you entered?" Before I say anything, Father growled at her, and Hattie was frozen in her place.

"But, he was our family and he was my brother and...."

"That's enough. You better not repeat this behavior in the future, otherwise before the Alpha punishes you, I will make you straight" Father was so concerned about the Alpha title. I was afraid that this Alpha title might create a distance between the family and me.

"Now get out!" Father was so strict.

"But I came to..."

"Father, it's all right. Let her talk, she won't repeat the action in the future" I calmed down Father.

"Theron, I came to..."

"Alpha, he was not your brother" Hattie was disturbed by the father again.

"Alpha, I came to inform you that your mother wants to meet your future Luna today evening. She asked whether you are also interested in coming with her?" When Hattie talked about the future Luna Conry started to take deep breaths uncomfortably and growled softly.

"Say that we can wait for our true mate!" Conry was obsessed with finding his mate. By the time now, I had given up on finding our mate. father said that none of the wolves from our pack didn't spend this much of years to find their mate.

"Ask her to go by herself. I'll be busy in the evening" I lied. I didn't have any plans in the evening.

Hattie turned to go and then I suddenly remembered that the girls said something about Hattie. She said that Hattie troubles her every day. I thought that this would be a good time to make up their mind about each other and it would be a good start to making friends between the humans and the wolves.

"There's a girl in the library. Give her this" I took a water bottle among the few water bottles kept on the side table and gave it to Hattie.

"A girl?!" Both father and Hattie asked with a confused mixed surprise.

"Yes, and Hattie her name is Tevena and she was also from your class" I gave a sharp look towards Hattie when her eyes widened and her jaw clenched. I understood how much she hated her.

"Ask an omega to give it to her. I am not her servant!" Hattie gave a savage answer.

"Do you want me to discuss with the father about being a hero at the school for that girl? How about blowing air off her bicycle tires every day?" I mind-linked Hattie and her eyes widened. She quickly grabbed the bottle of water from my hand and vanished from the room.

"What did you want to discuss with me? And who was the girl in the library? How can a man survive in that rat hole?" Father asked as soon as Hattie left the room.

"Let me come to it Father. Yesterday when I was visiting the school, I had to address the students who got the detention yesterday" Father leaned back to the chair and gathered the tip of his fingernails to show that he was ready to listen to my story.

"When I attended the last class to speak with the student, there was this feisty human girl there. She didn't look at me, just lowered her head and started to speak to me about some unfair thing happening in the school" When I said so Father's expression turned into a puzzling one.

"Unfair things? Like what?" He asked.

"She said that wolves never get punished for whatever they do. She gave me an example that made me dumb. Yesterday whoever the students got detained were all humans and further, she said that she had no fault, but the teacher didn't allow her to do the explanation. She said that she was detained because a wolf distracts her" I didn't mention Hattie, otherwise father will punish her.

"What? What are you talking about?" He was surprised to hear about the complaint.

"Yes, and further she said that this has happened in your era as the Alpha also" When I said so, the father leaned forward on the table with surprise.

"What? How dare she was to accuse us like that?" He clenched his fists and hit on the table lightly.

"Yes, that's why I punished her. As a punishment, I asked her to clean and arrange the library" I said.

Father started to rub his forehead with his curved lips.

"What if she was speaking the truth?" after he woke up his voice a few times.

"What do you mean father?"

"I mean, what if she was correct? We never evaluated the school. We thought that it was functioning smoothly" When I heard Father say so I started to feel that she pulled out an important matter which was covered by the time.

"When I checked the lists later, I found all the students who got detained were only humans!" Father shook his head from side to side.

"Theron, she has brought a serious matter to us. Why did you punish her? Instead, it would be best if you had spoken with her about this" Father said.

"The way she spoke and accused us was not a way to speak to an Alpha. That's why I punished her" I was justifying my actions to the father.

"Son, another thing. When you are dealing with humans, be soft towards them. These delicate humans' hearts are fragile. Once it's broken, it is tough to make them loyal to us. I think you should go and speak to that girl right now and release her from the punishment." Father stood up from his place to leave the room.

"And one thing we know was, the library was not a place to stay for a living thing!"

As soon as he left the room I started to feel that Conry was squeezing uncomfortably.

"What is it, buddy? Are you, all right?" I mind-linked him.

"I don't know, I never felt like this before" Conry was replying uneasily.

"Maybe, you want to have a run. Before that, we will check on the human girl, and then let's go" Conry whined painfully. I started to feel sweating. The environment was chill and why I started to feel an awkward hotness from inside.

Suddenly I started to hear someone breathing heavily and anxiously. It was hearing so close to my ear. I quickly walked towards the library and my eyes widened when I saw the library door was shut and locked from outside. I remembered that I kept the key in the keyhole and left.

I kicked the door twice and on the second attempt, the large door opened by falling on the floor and I saw the girl collapse on the floor leaning her back on the door!

I quickly lifted her into my arms took her outside and patted her cheeks by keeping her on a chair outside.

"Wake up girl. Wake up." I lightly patted her cheeks and then I saw the fallen water bottle. I opened it and sprinkled some water on her face. She wasn't responding.

"Wake up Tevena!" Her eyes opened at once making my heartbeat skip for a second and I felt Conry howled!
