Chapter 4 Cemetery

With a smile, the well-dressed man approached Charlotte and said, "Miss Charlotte Pierce, I presume?"

Was he here for her?

Charlotte warily narrowed her eyes at the man in the suit and asked, "Yes, that's me. May I ask who you are?"

"I am Trenton Thompson, the assistant of Mr. Hudson Reynolds, the president of Paysine Group. I am also Mr. Reynolds' butler."

After introducing himself, Trenton gestured to the group of men in black carrying briefcases and added, "Mr. Reynolds has asked me to bring you a gift. Please accept it."

A gift from Hudson?

Everyone's eyes widened in shock as they all turned their attention to the men in black behind Trenton.

"Everyone, open the briefcases!" Trenton ordered in an aloof tone.

Following his command, all the men in black began to open the briefcases.

Inside were various antiques and luxury items: precious paintings, exquisite watches, gorgeous jade pieces, each worth millions.

Amidst these treasures, there were stacks of cash totaling at least tens of millions of dollars.

A ray of sunlight fell on the crisp new banknotes. At a glance, one could easily tell that there was meticulous effort put into arranging them. Everyone in the room couldn't take their eyes off them.

Their eyes gleamed further every time another briefcase was being opened. They had never seen this amount of money in their entire life.

"Are these... all for me?" Charlotte asked as she stared at the banknotes before her. She was so nervous that she could hear her heart pounding in her ears.

"Yes, Ms. Pierce," Trenton answered, his smile unwavering. "The amount of cash in here should be more than enough to settle your debts."

"But... How's that possible?" Kane cried, his mouth agape in disbelief.

He then gnashed his teeth and pointed at Charlotte with a trembling finger. "How did this slut get such a lavish gift from the Reynolds family?"

Immediately, Trenton's face crumpled into a frown.

"You dare disrespect Ms. Pierce? Are you the bank clerk sent to collect the debts?"

Without waiting for an answer, Trenton took a stack of banknotes and used it to slap the taste off Kane's mouth.

The sound of the slap was as crisp as the banknotes' texture, and the impact caused Kane to tumble backwards and almost lose his balance.

Kane clutched his cheek, looking swollen from the slap.

"What did you just do?" Kane shouted in shock and anger.

"You have one minute. Take this money and never show your face here again," Trenton threatened.

"B-But I'm not from the bank..." Kane stammered. Although his face was red with rage, he knew that he couldn't afford to offend the Reynolds family.

It was at this moment that Noah spoke up.

"If my memory serves me right, you said something to me earlier," Noah said with a contemptuous sneer. "If I can produce twenty million, you'll kneel in front of me and call me dad, right?"

In an instant, Kane's expression changed.

"You... You want me to kneel and call you dad? As if I would ever do that!" Kane spat, seething in rage.

"Do whatever this gentleman says!" Trenton said to Kane as though he was giving him an order he couldn't refuse.

When Trenton said those words, Kane's jaw clattered in fear as his face turned pale.

Although Trenton didn't know who Noah was, Hudson had instructed him to please Charlotte.

In his eyes, Kane was just a bank employee sent to collect loans.

If he took the initiative to help Charlotte humiliate Kane, then she would undoubtedly be very pleased with this gift.

"Kneel!" Noah commanded as he stared at Kane with a murderous gaze.

Kane's body was shaking uncontrollably.

He felt a fear from Noah that he had never experienced before.

"I... I..." he stammered as he staggered two steps backwards.

"What are you waiting for? Kneel!" Trenton shouted, glaring at Kane with his eyes cold.

The combined pressure from Kane and Noah made Kane's knees collapse.

The next second, he was kneeling on the ground.

"I'm sorry! I'm sorry!" Kane frantically apologized while kowtowing in front of him.

"I'm sorry, Dad. I'm sorry! You are a magnanimous man. Please forgive your son!" Kane begged.

For a moment, the entire room fell into a deathly silence.

None of the members of the Pierce family expected Kane to be so afraid that he would actually kneel and call Noah "dad".

They could feel the secondhand embarrassment just from watching him do that.

Noah stared down at Kane on his feet, his face devoid of emotion.

"Having a son like you badly reflects on me!" Noah sneered in disdain. "Get out of my sight!"

Upon hearing that, Kane's body tensed, his fear transforming into rage.

This guy had gone too far!

Kane clenched his fists, his nails almost clawing the floor as frustration and resentment surged within him.

However, given that the Reynolds family's butler was right there, Kane couldn't afford to show any hints of these emotions on his face.

"Didn't you hear what this gentleman had said? Get out of here!" Trenton roared at him.

"Yes, yes! I'm leaving right now!"

With a quick nod, Kane scurried out of Charlotte's house.

Once he was gone, Trenton fixed his attention to Charlotte.

"Ms. Pierce, all the gifts are placed at your doorstep. If you ever need anything in the future, please don't hesitate to contact me."

Trenton handed a business card to Charlotte.

"Thank you, thank you!" Charlotte repeatedly thanked the man as tears bubbled in her eyes.

"No need to thank me, Ms. Pierce," Trenton said with a faint smile. "This is all coming from Mr. Reynolds' goodwill."

Julian and Hazel watched as Trenton treated Charlotte with utmost respect. The look of surprise and confusion was apparent on their faces.

Why would the butler of the Reynolds family show so much respect to Charlotte?

At this moment, Hazel suddenly remembered Noah's phone call earlier. She swallowed the lump on her throat before asking, "Mr. Trenton, do you happen to know Noah?"

"Noah?" Trenton's brows furrowed as if he was thinking hard. After a while, he shook his head. "I'm sorry, but I don't know that name."

Hearing this, Julian and Hazel both heaved a sigh of relief.

For a second, they thought that it was Noah who had called Trenton over.

"Ms. Pierce, I need to go back and report to Mr. Reynolds about this task. Goodbye."

After saying this, Trenton turned and walked to his car.

Once all the vehicles had left the premise, the members of the Pierce family finally came back to their senses.

Everything happened too fast.

Charlotte looked at Noah with eager eyes and asked, "Noah, did the Reynolds family send these gifts because of you?"

"How could it be because of this loser?" Hazel exclaimed before Noah could even answer.

She placed her hands on her hips and added, "Didn't the butler say that he doesn't even know Noah? He hasn't even heard of his name!"

"Exactly!" Julian chimed in with a sneer. "He just made a phone call to borrow money. But it was the butler who arrived carrying a bunch of gifts! Noah's just really lucky. These gifts are given to us by the Reynolds family!"

"Exactly!" Hazel clapped her hands, nodding in agreement while sporting a triumphant look.

"The one who sent these gifts must be one of your admirers. Since your engagement has been cancelled, he thought that he might have a chance with you, which is why he sent these gifts in advance!"

As Noah listened to what Julian and Hazel were saying, he couldn't help but let out a helpless sigh.

They were right about one thing: he was indeed an admirer of Charlotte.

"Enough!" Charlotte cried. She no longer wanted to talk about admirers with her parents. "Stop talking and just take care of Gianna for me. I need to go to Lumsdon Cemetery."

After entrusting Gianna to her parents, she turned around and headed towards the door.

When Noah heard this, he was a bit puzzled.

Questions in mind, he caught up with Charlotte and asked, "Charlotte, why are you going to the cemetery?"

Charlotte stopped in her tracks as soon as she heard the question. She wiped her eyes with the back of her hand and answered, "Noah, today is the anniversary of my grandfather's death."

Her voice was choked with sobs, her sorrow palpable in her tone.

"What?" Noah gasped.

He didn't know that today was the death anniversary of Charlotte's grandfather.

And yet, that scoundrel, Tommy, deliberately chose today to be the day he would get engaged to Charlotte!

It now made sense to Noah how Charlotte reached the end of her line and why she sent those messages to him.

"I'm sorry, Charlotte. Let me accompany you to the cemetery." Noah grabbed Charlotte's hand and gave it a loving squeeze.

In response, Charlotte nodded. "Okay."

Lumsdon Cemetery wasn't far from Charlotte's home.

When they arrived at the Cemetery, Noah and Charlotte saw an excavator parked by the entrance.

Next to it stood a group of young men holding shovels.

Among this group of young men, one familiar face stood out. It was Tommy.

"Tommy! What are you doing here?" Charlotte said, her face darkened.

Tommy looked at Charlotte and immediately burst into laughter.

"I knew you'd come here! I got someone to bring an excavator to dig up your grandfather's grave. I'll make sure that you know the consequences of running away with that loser today!"

As soon as she heard this, Charlotte's face turned pale.

She never thought Tommy would stoop so low as to dig up a grave!

Meanwhile, a silent rage was simmering within Noah.

"Charlotte, it's not yet too late for you to apologize to me," Tommy said, leering at her even though Noah was standing beside her. "If you promise to be my mistress and let me play with you for a month, I'll let you off the hook. If you don't, then watch me as I spread your grandfather's ashes like fertilizer!"

Hearing those words, Charlotte felt her blood boil.

"Tommy! You're despicable!" she cursed through gritted teeth.

Tommy snorted and replied, "I've never said that I'm a noble man! Judging from your attitude, it seems that you won't bow down and apologize until you see your grandfather's ashes. Very well, then..."

He then raised his hand and instructed the men behind him, "Charge in and..."

But before he could finish his order, Noah's cold voice cut him off.

"Anyone who dares to touch a single grass in this cemetery will have their limbs torn off their body! I will stick them to the ground and use them as decorations!"
