Chapter 5 Nightingale

Nyla's POV:

Five years had quickly passed.

Tonight, I had another performance on stage. While preparing backstage, I could faintly hear the screams of the crowd outside.

My friend, Bonnie Heston, walked up to me and said with a smile, "Hey, Nyla, hurry up! Go to the stage now. Everyone is screaming your name."

I just smiled faintly without saying a word and patted her on the shoulder. Then I picked up a mask with a nightingale pattern from the table and prepared to go to the stage.

Five years ago, I was saved by the owner of the Crescent Club, Gracie Natt. Since then, I settled down here and became a singer. Everyone called me Nightingale.

My first performance on stage made me famous overnight.

From then on, Nightingale became the signature of the Crescent Club. People came every night to listen to my voice.

But I wore a mask during my performance on stage for the past five years. In this way, I could avoid causing trouble.

As time went by, I became more and more popular. The increasing number of patrons coming to watch my performance was proof of it. I felt that my status gradually improved.

Outsiders thought that the Crescent Club was unregulated and unorganized. It was a home to the rogues and a gray area in the werewolf world. All the packs regarded this place as a gambling house and a brothel. They squandered a lot of money there for pleasure.

But as I gradually integrated myself into the Crescent Club, I found that it was not as bad as what others said. It wasn't true that it was a place where prostitutes and criminals gathered.

Every rogue in the Crescent Club had a miserable past. They were all poor werewolves who were either kicked out or abandoned by their packs. Bonnie and I were among them.

Gracie, the owner of the Crescent Club, was a gentle and kind-hearted she-wolf. Because of her, the rogues had a place to stay. She gave everyone a chance to help each other and survive.

Everything that I had now, I owed it all to Gracie. She was the one who transformed me from an introverted maid to Nightingale, the singer.

I was about to go on stage when Bonnie suddenly stopped me.

She reminded me seriously, "Nyla, I heard that we have a big shot customer tonight who booked a VIP room directly. Remember to perform well and don't make any mistakes."

I winked at her and replied confidently, "Hey, relax, okay? Don't worry. Have I ever let you down?"

Well, you're right. After all, no one else here can sing better than you.

Bonnie was relieved. She put down her hand and let me go to the stage.

As usual, the stage curtains slowly opened, and I walked under the spotlight.

I looked at the hall below the stage. There was not a single vacant seat. Some were even standing at the back. When they saw me, they all stood up and cheered.

Nightingale!

Nightingale!

Their support was overwhelming, and it motivated me to give my best performance. I took a deep breath and started to sing with the music accompaniment.

I had rehearsed this song countless times. The first time I was on stage, I was very nervous. But now, I was in my element every time I performed. All my hard work during rehearsals paid off.

Judging from my current status, I could say that it was all worth it.

After my performance, I received a standing ovation and hearty applause from the audience. So many flowers were thrown toward the stage, almost burying me.

Whew! It's finally done.

I couldn't help breathing a sigh of relief when I returned backstage.

Judging from the audience's reaction just now, I was confident that the big shot Bonnie was talking about was satisfied with my performance, no matter who they were.

I went to the lounge to rest.

As soon as I opened the door, a small figure rushed toward me. "Mommy!"
