Chapter 10 The Duel

The two clashed with a strong impact sending them both staggering backwards, closing in on both sides the two lunged at each other.

Bending low, The Alpha aimed at Wu Jin's lower region as the later took a step backwards avoiding the slash to deliver a punch to the former's face.

Moving quickly with his wolf speed,the Alpha grabbed him from behind flinging him into the barricade of spruce logs half buried into the ground. Without giving him a chance to regain his stamina,the Alpha whooshed forward delivering a punch burying him under a pile of cabbage as he broke through the barricade with the force of the blow.

"You think you can beat me even after the hospitality we rendered you?, you still think of doing evil?." The Alpha said.

"How do you think it will be possible huh?, Now look where it has led you to".

"Admit it king." Wu Jin began sarcastically.

"You are dying, just quit and handover to me and I will grant you a merciful death."

"Shut up demon." The Alpha yelled out as he threw a punch at Wu Jin, who rolled over avoiding the punch. Doing a 360° flip Wu Jin kicked the wolf Alpha on the head knocking him against the upturned cart as he crashed into it.

"Now you can feel how it feels to be in charge hahahahaha." Wu Jin said laughing maniacally.

"I had always wished to be in charge, and here I am now in charge truly. Come on get up and lets get done with this."

Now the whole of the spectators had fallen silent, for the first time in history of the wolves; a human had beaten the Alpha to the ground. The whole Arena reeked with tension as it was obvious the Alpha is weaken by something, a fact which is being ascertained true by the faces of the Elder wolves of the pack.

The Alpha staggered to his feet as blood dripped from his nose,ears mouth as his eyes turned bloodshot red. His movement became uncoordinated and every step seems as if he was paralyzed, the poison was having an effect on him faster than the others.

The Elder wolves all had blood dripping from their mouths and noses, a clear sign that the poison was fast weakening their system.

"Come on fight me King, we aren't done here. No one is a winner yet." Wu Jin said mischievously.

"Eric my brother, take care of my wife and my son. If possible take them far from here and remember one last thing never trust anyone." The Alpha spoke to Elder Eric as he staggered further supporting himself against the barricade.

Taking one last glance at the wolves watching the fight, before making a decision at Wu Jin. The later sidestepped grabbing him by the shoulder and with a slight push knocked him against a marble wolf statue few feets ahead.

Walking forward he pulled out a dagger from his waist as he dragged the Alpha by the leg to the center of the Arena, grabbing his head and pulling it back. Wu Jin raised the Alpha's face to the view of the onlookers.

"Behold your King." Wu Jin shouted with a mischievous smile as he placed the dagger in his neck.

The air was filled with anxiety, tension and fear as the inevitable happened. Without batting an eyelid Wu Jin slit the Alpha's throat as blood spluttered soaking the white sands in the Arena blood red as Wu Jin stood up with a smiling face.

"Finally." He yelled into the sky.

The sky darkened as the moon appeared mysteriously in the darkness, a glowing figure descended from the shimmering moon rays.

Every wolf both old and young knelt to their feet as they bowed onto the descending figure, it was evident that it was the goddess of the Moon

"Wu Jin, why have you decided to backstab the very people that harboured you in the time of suffering?." The goddess said meekly with a voice as sweet as honey.

"Who are you?, and what business do I have with you?." Wu Jin retorts.

"For this act of yours,you shall be cursed to a life of torment and anguish. You shall be Alpha but your shall regret making this decision you made." The goddess cursed as Wu Jin began shaking vigorously, his bones breaking and reshaping as he howled out into the sky before transforming fully into a wolf with his eyes glowing blood red.

The sky cleared as the goddess disappeared, the body of the dead Alpha had vanished mysteriously whilst the dying Elder wolves had been healed by the goddess. Everyone had heard the curse the goddess of the Moon placed on Wu Jin, it was a turmult of happiness and sadness.

Meanwhile Elder Eric had sneaked out the moment the dead Alpha crashed against the wolf statue, without giving any explanation he carried the Alpha's son with the Luna and takes off escaping with them through the underground tunnel leading to the outside of the city.

Until they were outside the city did he vouch an explanation to them, the Luna knew everything was lost. There was need fighting now, every fight had to wait till his son had come of age.

Back at the city the whole wolves bowed in homage to the new Alpha of the Nagari wolf pack.

The Beta's lined up in front of him as he took a scrutinizing look at each and everyone of them, judging by his small set eyes darting quickly from each one to another it was obvious he was looking for any sign of rebellion or ursuping from among them.

Turning around he walked towards the Alpha's courtyard with about a dozen Beta's wolves following him behind while keeping a considerable distance from him. No one want to fall on his bad side, not now not sooner. They seem to think of one thing in unison, the rules are about to be changed now or sooner and they either abide by it or bit the dust before it.
