Chapter 5 The Engagement Ceremony

However, the reality was not always on Winnie's side.

A week after Gerald's visit to their house, the day of their engagement ceremony finally arrived.

Since Gerald was the wealthiest man in Soulas, it was already expected that his engagement party would be grand.

The engagement party was held in Glory Hotel in the south of the city. It was said that a single meal there cost more than one hundred thousand dollars.

The guests were all elites and dignitaries in political and business circles. And this made the Newell family feel honored.

But at this moment, the Newell family was in chaos.

The engagement ceremony was about to begin, but Winnie was missing.

Last night, Winnie said she was going to the bachelorette party her best friends organized for her. But until now, she still hadn't come back. Enoch and Miranda had called her many times but to no avail.

Enoch and Miranda were very anxious at the moment. Today was a big day for the Newell family, yet something unexpected happened.

Miranda wished she could put on the dress for the engagement party on Winnie's behalf. She paced back and forth anxiously. "What are we going to do now?"

Miranda was dissatisfied with his remark. She retorted, "Didn't you also agree to let her go to that bachelorette party? If Winnie had just stayed at home last night, this wouldn't happen. If you have time to reprimand me, you might as well find a way to explain it to the Lamont family."

All the famous families in the city were present today. If the bride-to-be was missing, it would embarrass the Lamont family.

If the Lamont family lost face, the Newell family would be doomed.

Enoch frowned, lost in thought. But when he looked up and saw Sheila, who had just stepped into the house, his eyes suddenly lit up.

"Sheila and Winnie look very alike. Why don't we let her replace Winnie in the engagement ceremony and solve the crisis first?"

"What? No way!" Miranda interrupted angrily. "There is no way I will let that bitch destroy my daughter's engagement party."

"Fine! Find your daughter then," Enoch snapped, glaring at her.

Miranda didn't know what else to say, so she shut her mouth. She thought for a while and nodded reluctantly.

It was only then that Enoch called Sheila over and explained the situation.

Mixed emotions overwhelmed Sheila's heart. She thought she would never have anything to do with Gerald anymore. She didn't expect that she would be engaged to Gerald on behalf of Winnie.

But what if they were discovered? She couldn't imagine the consequences.

However, Ivan was still in the hospital, suffering from leukemia. His treatment would cost a lot, and she couldn't afford it.

At the thought of this, Sheila made up her mind. She looked at Miranda and said, "Okay, I can take Winnie's place for this engagement party to push through. But on one condition. You have to give me five million dollars."

She knew that the Newell family was rich. Miranda and Winnie could even spend more than one million dollars on a single bag or piece of jewelry.

But after she put forward her condition, her heartbeat went abnormally fast.

After all, five million dollars was not a small amount. She didn't know if Miranda would give in to her request.
