Chapter 3 Accident

Winnie's words got Gerald's attention. He turned his head and looked at her.

Winnie paused for a moment. Then she said in a somewhat embarrassed tone, "Actually, she envies my beautiful face. So when she graduated from high school, she secretly stole money from our family and had a plastic surgery to look like me."

While listening to Winnie distorting the truth in front of other people, Sheila couldn't help clenching her fists. She felt like her face was slapped so hard that it burned with pain.

Somehow, she didn't want Gerald to hear those lies.

But Winnie was not done yet. She continued, "Alas, my little sister is so pitiful. Her biological parents died early, so my father got her from the orphanage and brought her home. But since then, she has been plotting against us, and she has been greedy for my family's money..."

"I think your little sister is more beautiful than you. Her beauty is natural. How about you? You must have had plastic surgery five or six times to fix your eyes. Am I right?" All of a sudden, an arrogant voice coming from the door interrupted Winnie.

Everyone turned their heads and looked in the direction where the voice came from. Then they saw a young man about seventeen or eighteen years old. He had blonde hair, green eyes, and a snicker on his face. He walked towards them from the door against the light.

"Watch your mouth, young man! I haven't punished you for your truancy from school yet." Gerald glanced at the young man coldly and introduced, "This is my brother, Herbert Lamont."

Herbert looked at Sheila and waved at her, totally ignoring Winnie.

And this made Winnie secretly furious.

She really wanted to slap this arrogant young man and teach him a lesson.

But considering Gerald's presence, she could only pretend to be wronged. She said in an aggrieved voice, "Gerald, it seems that our little brother doesn't like me."

Herbert rolled his eyes and sneered, "Our little brother? Who is your little brother? Sorry, I don't have an ugly sister like you."

"You..." Winnie was so angry that she was at a loss for words.

"Herbert!" Gerald saw that things were getting worse, so he had to stop his little brother.

Upon receiving his warning, Herbert just shrugged and stepped aside.

At this moment, Enoch and Miranda Newell came. After receiving a servant's notice, they rushed downstairs with big smiles on their faces. And when they saw the situation, Enoch broke the deadlock with polite words.

"Why is everyone standing in the hallway? Mr. Lamont, please come in."

Then he courteously ushered Gerald and his brother to the dining room. The servants served desserts and snacks on the table one after another.

As soon as everyone was seated, Enoch asked tentatively, "Mr. Lamont, why are you here today? Is there anything we can do for you?"

Gerald's eyes swept across Sheila and Winnie first before he replied, "I'm here to fulfill my promise and discuss the marriage with Winnie."

His words instantly caused an uproar in the Newell family.

Although Winnie had already mentioned it to them, Miranda did not believe it yet. But now that Gerald had confirmed it in person, she was convinced that Winnie would really marry into the Lamont family.

After that, Enoch and Miranda kept flattering and showing their hospitality to Gerald.

Winnie wanted to approach Gerald shyly, but he subconsciously avoided her.

She was so embarrassed that she froze. Then she turned her head and glanced at Herbert.

If she wanted to be Gerald's wife, she must never offend Herbert.

At the thought of this, Winnie put on her smile again. She handed the mushroom cream soup in front of her to Herbert and said gently, "Herbert, try this cream soup. It's our cook's specialty."

However, Herbert just turned a deaf ear to her and continued eating the caramel pudding.

The smile on Winnie's face froze. She picked up the bowl of soup and walked towards Herbert, pretending to look pitiful. "Herbert, I'm being nice to you. I just want you to have a taste..."

"Go away! I don't want mushroom cream soup," Herbert interrupted before she could finish her words, pushing her away.

He didn't like this hypocritical woman at their first meeting already.

Unexpectedly, an accident happened. The bowl of hot mushroom cream soup was overturned and spilled on Sheila's body. Some of the soup even splashed into her eyes.

Sheila let out a suppressed cry, feeling unbearable pain in her eyes.

When Herbert saw this, he hurriedly picked up a wet tissue and was about to take off Sheila's glasses with his other hand. "The skin around your eyes has become red. Take off your glasses, so I can see if your eyes are injured."

"Don't you dare!"

Winnie was a little scared. She wasn't sure if Gerald saw Sheila's face clearly that night. So it was too risky to let Sheila take off her glasses and reveal her eyes.

No matter what, she must be Gerald's wife. She couldn't let anything go wrong at this time.
