Chapter 3 Musically speaking

Peris had never been more happy about someone fighting for her like she was when the anonymous person on the other side of the stone wall used their music to fight for with the music. The loudness of it reminded her of the time she had plugged her earphones and put music as loud as she could to drown out her mother's suffocating words and the thoughts that were swimming around her mind. She remembered the many times she had used the music to hide away from the reality of the harsh life she was living in.

She closed her books and tidied up her desk before she curled up in bed and listened to the slow but loud music playing on the piano. She let a few tears drop out of her eyes but this time they were tears of appreciation over what the stranger had done for her. She had never had anyone stand up for her directly or indirectly and having that for a change was the best thing that she could ever ask for. She wished she could thank the stranger for the kind act that he had pulled for her but she did not know how to do it. With those appreciative thoughts in mind, she fell into a deep slumber.

She expected she would wake up to her alarm but instead she was awakened by a tune playing on the piano, a song that was foreign to her but she wanted nothing more than to know it. Somehow it was as though the person playing was reading her heart and understanding her taste in music because even though it wasn't a song familiar with her, it was a song that she knew she could spend days listening to. She smiled sleepily allowing the music to wash over her and it was almost luring her to sleep when her alarm screeched so loudly startling her awake. She got up and decided to take a shower wanting to get ready for school. She had already forgiven what had happened the previous night and even though it wasn't forgotten she knew she had new energy for the day and she was not going to let anyone take it away from her. Since she could not hear the music with the water running she started humming to herself. She did not know why but suddenly she felt like singing an old hymn which she decided to do.

She finished her bathroom ritual and walked out singing amazing grace as though it was the sweetest song she had ever had. She laid an outfit out on her bed and started getting dressed. In the midst of the moments if silence that were there she heard the soft music being played from the house next door. Whoever it was had decided to humor her and was playing amazing grace. She chuckled at that and kept singing while being accompanied by the piano. She dressed up in her black pants and creme shirt before putting on a jacket to match the pants and a pair of loafers. Checking the time she realized she had a couple of minutes before she had to leave. She decided to forfeit breakfast as she felt she had no appetite and decided instead to get herself an apple. She sat at her desk munching on the apple without a care in the world before she decided to address what she was feeling in her heart. She took out her notebook and opened a blank page. She took a pen out of her pouch and then threw the apple core away before she decided to write.

"Dear, Anonymous

No one ever stood up for me like you did yesterday. I did not know one could use music to communicate if the emotions fly high. You are an amazing person and an amazing friend. I know I haven't met you in person but I hope that I will meet you someday and maybe thank you for fighting for me in the way that you could.

I did not know you could hear everything that goes on around here but anyway with the way she was yelling I'm sure people outside of this estate heard it as well. I am sorry for putting you in a position such as the one I put you in forcing you to do something could be outside of your comfort zone, but I'm damn sure you enjoyed it.

I am almost falling in love with you and it has not even been a week. I can already imagine how sweetly you caress the keys for revenge and how much you love the sound of it. I wish to get to meet you someday but even if I do not then I will appreciate the fact that I was serenaded by your music more times than one.

I gotta go. School.

Talk later

love

Peris."

Peris quickly folded the letter as her alarm went off reminding her it was time to leave. She paid careful attention however, ensuring that all edges were well lined and nothing was out of order with it. She then grabbed her shoe box from under the bed and placed the letter in it before returning it to its original position. She then dismissed the alarm before she took her bag and keys rushing out the door. She had to double check if she had locked the door since she had been in such a hurry. She then took a deep breath reminding herself that she could get through the day without a hitch. She had done the first day easily and she could do the second one just as easily. She made her way to the gate and walked towards the main gate that was right opposite the school gate. She knew it wasn't going to be easy for her but she was willing to take the risk. After all there was someone who had made a point of playing her music every night and no matter how disappointed she was it would make her day.
