Chapter 10 Phone call

Many times she had experienced salvation from such scenarios but she knew that it wasn't her day. She had barely prayed since she found her way far from her home and she had been so contented she forgot the reason as to why she had always prayed her way out of things. In that moment as she put on the least bit of make up she could in order to look decent she understood the reason as to why she needed to pray. She put on a white sundress that was a size bigger on her and reached below her knee. She settled for saddles as she did not know where he would take her.

Satisfied with how she looked she closed her eyes and said a prayer, not to be saved but to just survive the night since she knew it would be a long one. However much time she had it didn't matter if she was unable to survive that night. She sighed deeply taking a deep breath to control her emotions before she opened the door slightly. She peeked out to see her father and the neighbor engrossed in a deep conversation. She was glad that she had more time but at the same time she dreaded that if night came her life would never be the same again.

"Oh princess, you are done already." His voice caused a shiver to pass through her spine. She had not been ready for this. She did not want to be ready for this. She was being forced to grow way past what she saw herself grow into for a while. Taking a deep shaky breath she opened the door wider and walked out. Her saddles made a small noise as she stepped down the one step from her house to the backyard. She smiled not wanting the woman to catch on with what was happening. At that moment she wished she could hear his music again so that she could calm her nerves enough to be able to go with this man. She placed her phone that was still in her hand into the bag she had slung over her shoulder. All the while she could feel his gaze burn into her even while she pretended to organize the small bag. She confirmed the presence of an inner wear and some lotion. She hoped that it was all she would need. In her head she begged AJ to start playing his music but it was futile. She could only hold on to the hope that in a while she would be back to listen to him play.

"You look incredibly beautiful my love." The words sounded repulsive coming from his lips and Peris tried her best not to scrunch up her nose. That was when she heard it, the soft tune of a piano which sounded so angry, as if trying to pass a certain message. She knew why. She knew that he was feeling what she was feeling but the only thing she was unable to explain was how he was sharing in her sentiment even though they had never even had a conversation and she had not even said or sang anything to show such a thing. She sighed in relief as she listened to the music hoping that it would carry her to places unknown just for a while. She closed her bag and smiled up to her father before softly appreciating the 'compliment' knowing fully well that its interpretation was nothing like what her neighbor thought. She locked the door before she walked towards the man who gave her life then took it from her with a sweet smile on her face.

"Shall we go?" She asked trying to sound impatient causing her father to laugh sarcastically and look at her in question. Peris had been in this for long and she knew just how to answer him with just her eyes. He understood exactly what she wanted. She could live with him being as he was but she did not want anyone else to know about it. She was hesitant when he offered her his hand to hold but the warning glare she received had her thinking otherwise. She needed to do this. She took his hand petulantly, like the child she was, knowing fully well that would warrant the punishment that she would receive. He started walking with her towards the small corridor that led to the front of the house before he seemed to remember something and turned back to the woman who was still standing and watching them go. She was a bit confused as to why he had done that but she did not question it. She knew she did not need to add to her already long list of wrongdoings.

"It was nice talking to you miss. I hope you treat my daughter right." He said before walking away again barely waiting for a response. She almost laughed as she saw her expression morph to confusion. Yeah the man had the ability to cause one to be surrounded by confusion just by the words of his mouth. She walked behind him her head held high, as high as she could with the fear cursing through her veins. They got to his car and she waited with he unlocked it and opened the door for her. The thought of him being chivalrous was foreign to her but she knew he was doing it to protect her image. She was grateful that he at least had a bit of a heart not to make matters worse for her than they were at the moment. He got into the car and while he was driving away his phone rang and he absent mindedly picked it before he got got upset in a while and almost shouted at the person that he was going to meet them. That could only mean one thing. It wasn't going to be as dark as she had imagined. She was going to be saved by the damn caller. For the first time a smile lit up her face.
