Chapter 7

"Alpha, we are almost at the pack border," Connor called.

Coleen raised his head at the same time his wolf shook out its fur; he has been restless for hours now.

He did not know what was wrong with him. He had woken up before dawn and was eager to get silver moon pack, which surprise him because this was the first time he was eager to go out.

In the journey, his wolf had urged him to shift, and run ahead of the others, so he could get to the pack faster. He wonders why, but he could not come up with an explanation.

"Have you notified them we are coming?" He asked Connor.

"I have," he nodded positively.

As soon as they got to the border, his wolf suddenly become more alert and restless, as if he was expecting something.

The border patrol came forward to see who it was that entered their territory, and when they discover it was him, they led them straight to the alpha, who was waiting patiently for them at the pack house.

Coleen came down from his car, along with his entourage. He moved gracefully toward Alpha Roland.

That dark, powerful aura of authority oozing out of him as he strides towards his destination.

"Alpha Coleen, it an honour to have you here," Alpha Roland said, stretching his hand for a handshake.

Coleen gripped it. "It is my pleasure." His voice was icy.

Connor glance at Coleen to see him calm, but he knew it was just a facade.

"Thank you for answering my call in such a short time," Roland said.

Coleen made no move to say anything. He just stared at Roland with indifference.

"Here, let me introduce you to my pack members," Roland said, and he stretched his hand towards a well-built guy.

"This is Simon, my beta and his mate Nina... on his left is Tim, my gamma and his mate Andrew and this is my lovely mate Sophie, the future Luna of this pack and there is someone else I would like you to meet," he said, his eyes turning sad.

He turns to Coleen with a smile. "I am sorry for keeping you waiting. It seems you will meet the last important member later," he said too sweetly.

"Who is he?" Coleen asked curiously. He knew some packs assign Delta position to their members, so he thought the last person was a Delta.

"Actually, it is she. Her name is Avery. She is the beta's younger sister," he said.

His wolf seems to perk up at the name, but he shuts him down.

"What the hell is wrong with this mutt?" He thought.

"Can we get on with the details already? I have important things to attend to," he said sternly.

"But of course, Alpha," Roland said, and he led the way into the pack house.

"We will excuse you, men," Sophie was quick to say. "I will see that the maids prepare refreshments for you while you discuss," she added.

"Make sure you do not let anyone bring it or come near wherever we are having our meeting," Roland warned.

"Of course," Sophie said.

She placed a quick kiss on his lip before walking away with Nina.

"Would you like if we discuss the details in my office, or you would rather stay here?" Roland gesture towards the dining area.

Coleen stared at him for a while, that Roland was getting uncomfortable under his gaze.

"Lead the way to your office," he finally voiced.

Roland releases the breath he was holding.

"Yes alpha," Roland whispered.

They gave Coleen the alpha seat when they got to the office. He sat down and stared at the face of every one sitting.

"Tell me everything without sparing a detail," he said.

Roland made sure he locked the door before moving closer to Coleen.

He explained how the rogue attack started and what happened the last time they attacked.

"Is there any suspect?" Coleen inquired.

"We do not have any suspect as of now, but we are hoping we can bring the culprit to justice," Simon intervened.

"That is why we asked for your help," he said.

"How often do you get attacks?" Coleen asked again.

He took note, so he could pinpoint possible suspects.

"Almost every day," Roland answered.

"Where do they attack most, or should I say, who do they attack most?" Coleen asked.

"They attack adult wolves, but they mostly focus on the little pup," Tim was the one who replied.

"How do you know?" Coleen narrowed his eyes at him.

"I am in charge of keeping records," Tim stated perfunctorily.

Coleen only nod as he notes down something.

"Where do they attack most?" He asked again.

"The playground," Tim said.

"Gather your pack members on the playground, including all your warriors," Coleen commanded.

He stood up without waiting for anyone's reply as he stalked towards the door.

The man stood up and ran after him, Roland quickly minds- link the pack members.

They got to the playground and, sure enough, the pack members were already waiting for them.

"Make sure everyone is here. They should leave no one out," Coleen's gruff voice boomed again.

Roland turns to Tim, instructing him on what to do. He was about to leave when Sophie came rushing to them.

"We have a problem," she rushed out.

Sophie stared at Coleen with hesitation.

"What is it, Sophie?" Roland urges her on.

"Avery.... She isn't in her room anymore," she whispered.

"What do you mean, she isn't in her room?" Simon asked.

Sophie pulls out a piece of paper from her back pocket, she stretches it forward.

But before Simon could take it, Coleen grabbed it from her hand.

It flustered him for a few minutes. He wonders why he was so eager to know where she was.

*Check the content of the letter* his wolf had urged him on.

And that is exactly what he did. He unfolds the paper and skimmed through its content.

Dear Roland,

I apologise for ditching the gathering even though I know we are receiving guest soon.

Tell Alpha Coleen I am sorry for not being there to welcome him. I will make sure I am back before he returns to his pack.

You are probably wondering why I left. I feel suffocated in the pack these few days.

So, I thought of taking a break. I need to be away from every that is happening around me for once before I lose myself again.

Don't look for me please and don't ask anyone to look for me. I will be back before you know it.

~~Avery~~

Coleen squeezes the paper in his palm as soon as he finished reading the content in it.

His fist tightened and his jaw clenched at the same time. He didn't know why, but he felt angry that she left the pack.

And not just because her pack was in danger.

No! Not that.

"Alpha, is everything alright?" Simon asked.

Coleen snapped out of his thoughts; he turns to Roland.

"Bring Avery to me as soon as she comes back," he said through clenched teeth before walking off.

When he got to his room, he shut the door and ran his hand over his face.

His line of his thoughts earlier on the playground shocked him.

His wolf had been angry because Avery didn't wait to see him.

"What the f*ck does that even mean?"
