Chapter 7 About Curt

While the kids were eating their snacks and watching their movie. Bunny's parents were talking up stairs in their room. "He didn't take anything?" Said Bunny's dad. "No, not a towel, extra clothes, not even a toothbrush." Stella explains in frustration. "Okay." He sighed "So, here." He says giving his wife some of the money that was meant to pay for the electricity and water bill. "No its fine, put that away. I can just give hIm a towel and wash his clothes while he's in the shower." "Clothes won't be ready in time and he's gonna need a toothbrush. I have another hour before my night shift.

Walstar should still be open. You could use this to pick out a few things. I'll watch them."

Stella's POV

I'm in the car thinking about what to get him. I felt so bad for him. His mother seems like she loves him, but he's..... I bite down on my lip just thinking about it. How could any loving mother not look out for her child's best interest or needs. I'm upset even thinking about it. Gripping on to the steering wheel tight I let out a long frustrated sigh. Maybe, I'll go over to his house tomorrow pick up some of his things wash some of his clothes. I'll have to come up with something though. Camping or something to do over the weekend. A reason to pack him up some outfits. I'm parked thinking over things we could do this weekend as I toss a few things into the cart I think he might need. I get home and my husband is already rushing out the door. I toss him his keys as I take the bag out the car. Walking back inside the house I see the movie is just about to end. So, I enter the kitchen and start tidying up. I laugh to myself as I see my daughter having so much fun with her new friend. Shaking my head left and right while wiping down the counters. After sweeping up the floor I let them know it's time to wash up and to get ready for bed. "Bunny!" "Yes mom." "You first." I say. "I wanna talk with Curtis." "Okay!" She says running up the stairs. "And don't forget to brush your teeth! Don't think I didn't notice the sodas, young lady!" Looking back at Curtis I grabbed the bag that I had sitting on top of the counter. "I wasn't sure what you'd like but I got you something's I thought you might need. I would have normally washed them before giving them to you to put on, but by the time you get out the bathroom it wouldn't be dry. I figured they're cleaner than what you have on. Handing him a bag "There's also a toothbrush, toothpaste and some socks." I tell him. He just nods asking where he should put the dirty clothes. I tell him "Oh you can just put it all in that bag and leave it in the bathroom. Where's your backpack?" He just shrugs with an I don't know kind of gestur. Now that I'm thinking about it I don't think I saw him with one. "It's alright, here." I pull out another bag from one of the kitchen drawers. "You can just keep all those things in that bag and put your dirty clothes in this one." I smile at him as my daughter comes running out the bathroom and down the stairs. "All washed up mom." I nod my head towards the upstairs bathroom implying that it's his turn to go and wash up.

I tap the counter top to get Bunny's attention. She looks up at me. "Bed young lady. Now!" "But I wanna wait for Curtis to come out!" "Donworry about all that. You'll see him when he comes out to say good night. Now bed!" I tell her. She lets out a big heavy over exaggerated sigh as she says "Fine....." turning around to walk up the stairs and into her room. Curtis Comes out the bathroom not to long after. "Curtis!" I shout. "Stay right there. I'm coming!" I head up the stairs noticing the red long sleeve shirt fits him well and black sweat pants. I knock on Bunny's door and it flings open. "Curtis!" She flings her arms around him giving him a big hug. "Goodnight." She says! "Goodnight Bunny." "I'll show you to your room okay hun. We have an extra room for when Bunny's grandmama comes over to visit. You can sleep in there." I show him to his room and say "Goodnight" as I walkout closing the door behind me. I go to the bathroom to grab those clothes he's been wearing. Staying up and extra hour making sure they were washed. So, he could wear them in the morning. I go to my room staying up even later. Waiting for my husband to get home. He'll be here around 3:00 am then he'll head back out to a different job at 8:00 am come home at 3:00 pm same time as Bunny gets home from school. Heads back out at 8:00 pm. One of his jobs doesn't include work on the weekends so he took up another job as a cook at Texas stake house. He works so much and so hard I don't know how we're struggling so much. I finally drift off to sleep. The last thing That came to mind was how long and what an eventful day today was.
