Chapter 2 Picture Day

I woke up to the alarm which is a really loud annoying and ugly beeping sound. I was so annoyed by it I eminently got up to hit the stop button. I rush to get dressed, brush my teeth then ran downstairs to eat breakfast. Mother then hands me my bag drops strawberries on top of my otmeal and say, "Good morning sweet heart! Are you almost ready for dad to drop you off at school while he heads to work this morning?" "Yes mom." Nodding my head up and down. "Mom will you do my hair for picture day?" I ask.

My mother smirks and says, "Yes dear finish up and what exactly would you like me to do with your hair?" "Can you pin it up into a bow next to my ear?" I say as I stuff my mouth full of oatmeal while using my left hand finger to point to my left bunny ear. I then notice mother glancing at the clock behind me. Naturally I look back to then back at my mom. Then walks over to a nightstand by the couch and grabbes a brush and some hair pins out from a drawer, then walks back over to me. She then starts doing my hair while I finish eating. My dad is heard coming down the stairs caring my school bag and says "You don't wanna forget this." Sitting my backpack down on the whole leaning in to give my mom a kiss on the cheek. "Alright let's go kiddo." My father said. My mother quickly placed the last pin in my hair and urged me to head out with my father. Grabbing my bag as I headed out the door my father was holding open for me. He unlocked the car got in and said "I like the way your mother pinned up your hair it looks lovely." Then handing me money saying "this is for lunch okay and bring home some of those pictures from school today. Your mom and me would love to hang it on the fridge." I wanted to tell him that I was fine without lunch and that there would be other picture days but I knew he'd feel hurt if I did so I just nodded. "Thank you daddy." I said as I opened my side of the car door then leaned back in to give a small peck on his cheek. I saw my friends outside of the schools entrance waiting for the bell to ring so we could head inside. I ran up to them and screamed, "hey, guys!" "Hey, it's bunny!" Denis said pointing in my direction and says. As everyone else turns their head to see me. "Hey!" We all start treating eachother and talk about how our pictures a to look. Luna just talks about how much she hates picture day claiming how she's not very photogenic.

I rolled my eyes because she's actually very pretty. I couldn't picture her being able to take a bad photo. Benz is a really big guy he laughed when he heard her say that he can also be really mean. As the bell rang we all had to line up before entering our class. "Eww, what's that smell." Looking back to see one of the girls from my class pinching her nose and waving her hand to fan the air away from her face. Benz naturally loud for no reason says "it's this scrawny looking kid in the back." and pushes him out of line. Benz "What, trying to save money on the water bill or something. You'd think on a day like this your parents would actually give you a bath." Everyone in line starts laughing. As I looked at the kid that was standing there in the center of the hall way waiting outside our teachers door I realized that I knew him! He lives across the street from me. I've seen his house on the outside and it looks pretty dirty I can't imagine what it might look like on the inside. His shoes had holes in them you could see a toe sticking out. Was he not wearing any socks. "Curtis!" The teacher yells. "Why are you not in line?" Curtis went to answer but the teacher cuts him off. "It's a rhetorical question you're not supposed to answer!" Snapping her fingers and pointing to the end of the line suggesting that he better figure out what she meant by that.

Curtis looked down as he went to get back behind the rest of us. Ms. Hathers then let us into the class room. We took our seats but it seemed no one sat around Curtis. Ms. Hathers, "Curtis do you mind sitting up closer with the rest or the class." I could tell that Curtis didn't want to by the look on his face. He didn't respond at all to what she said. He just sat there. When Ms. Hathers ask him to sit closer to the rest of us instead of way in the back by himself everybody's head turned whispering and gossiping to eachother till one raised their hand and said "Ms. Hathers I don't wanna get his lice." Another said, "Yeah, or his bed bugs." Other kids starting shouting some talking about his smell and how dirty he looked! "he could be covered in bugs for all we know!" Another kid yelled "He doesn't even shower!" Said Benz. Ms. Hathers banged on her desk! To get all the kids attention. I glanced at Curtis who looked like he was gonna cry. I couldn't help but feel bad for him. Ms. Hathers then said "Stop bulling your class mate. Curtis in the hall!" She walks Curtis out into the hall with her and closes the door behind her.

Curtis's POV:

I was so embarrassed I didn't know what to say. I just stood there looking down as Ms. Hathers and I stood there quietly outside of the class room door. She clears her throat then asks "Is everything alright at home. You even look a bit malnourished." I didn't wanna end up in a home where life would end up most likely end up being no different then my home life or worse. So, I forcibly looked up and nodded my head while also forcing a smile. "Yeah, everything's good." "Are you sure?" She asked me. "Yeah why wouldn't it be." I said. "Well I'm going to call your parents about this incident maybe you guys have just been having a ruff week." I was scared she was going to get me in trouble but I didn't wanna say anything that would really be problematic so I just ducked my head back down and went for the door to head back to my seat.

Bunny's POV:

When they walked back in everyone was really quite and pretty much just staring. Ms. Hathers started to explain how pictures were going to be taken in a hour in a half so for the mean time we were going to watch a movie. Bill nine the science guy; which was about germs and health. By the time it was over Ms. Hathers turned off the T.V then told us to line up. She opened the door and walked us to the gymnasium where there was a big green screen behind in the background and a big sitting stool. Kids were all all lined up, hopping up and down from the chair; some were even trying their hardest not to blink after that big flash went off in front of their faces. It wasn't long before It was my turn. I walked up and placed one of my feet on the metal rims at the bottom of it, because it was to high and I was to short. I sat down looking into the camera and the lady taking the photos told me to say cheese. I smiled my biggest and brightest smile not even shying to the fact that my front bunny tooth was missing then got blinded by the spots I was seeing after the flash. I hop down look around and after my vision has cleared up and noticed Curtis was standing by himself. I walked up to where he was at and introduced myself. "Hi, I'm Bunny." He looked at me kinda funny, like he was trying to decipher whether or if he could trust me. "Hey." He said in a kind of low agitated tone. I felt like he just wanted me to go away but I wasn't going to scare easily. "Wanna come over to my house after school?" Looking down at my dress shoes placing both my tippy toes together kind of forming the top of a triangle. He had his back pressed up against the wall in a slumpish kind of way. He turned his head to the side looking me up and down before replying, "I don't even know how I would get there." He sighed grumpily. I laughed, "Silly, I live pretty much across the street from you." He looked at me again as of though he was just recognizing me as his neighbor. "I'll think about it." He rolled his eyes and turned to walk over to the line the other students were in to head back to class.
