Chapter 8 Forced Ripening Of Persimmons

After Jayda spoke, they noticed that Kasha was walking towards them. Since their mother came, Jayda approached her. "Mama, what are you doing here?"

With a worried look, Kasha replied, "I'm anxious about you guys."

Immediately, Jayda told her everything about the bet and added, "Mama, it's great that you're here. Please talk some sense to Kiki. She's reckless."

Kasha came near Kira and told her, "It's alright, sweetie. Trust me. I won't let Keith drive you away. You're already a part of this tribe. As such, no one can force you to leave."

However, Kira walked up to Kasha, held her hand, and rubbed it as a sign of comfort. It seemed that the former was gesturing that she was confident about winning.

"Mama, that is her suggestion, not mine. I only agreed to her bet."

Keith felt wrong that everyone was accusing him of something he never said.

"Mama, Keith isn't to blame. He truly never said anything. Kiki proposed that she would leave if she lost. However, it seems that she's very confident. What about we check the persimmons first?"

Theo suggested as to diffuse the situation.

It seemed that he was also curious why Kira was sure she would win.

Meanwhile, Keith was grateful someone defended him. He gave Theo a thankful look.

"In that case, let me be the judge of this contest. I'll taste the fruit."

Kasha agreed and decided to see the results first.

However, she had to find a way to let Kira stay if Keith won the bet.

As such, Kasha knelt and dug the persimmons out of the ground.

The persimmons indeed became redder compared to yesterday.

Keith and Jayda couldn't believe what they were seeing. They even rubbed their eyes to make sure that the fruits had really turned red.

On the other hand, Kira burst into laughter when she saw their reactions.

She already knew that the persimmons would become red.

Initially, she felt concerned that the soil and the persimmon here were different from the modern era. Fortunately, they weren't that different after all. A sigh of relief escaped her breath.

It seemed that no matter what era, natural principles worked in the same manner.

After Kasha picked up a persimmon, she placed it in her mouth and tasted it.

Her eyes were wide open as she chewed the fruit. However, she remained quiet. As such, Keith and Jayda felt anxious.

In a curious tone, Jayda asked, "Mama, how does it taste? Is it delicious? Tell us already."

"Yes, it tastes sweet. This is the first time I have eaten such delicious persimmon. It's unlike anything I've ever tasted. You should try it too!"

Then, Kasha gathered the remaining persimmons and gave them to the others.

"Amazing. It's luscious and juicy. This is the most delicious persimmon I have ever eaten."

"Indeed. It tastes great."

As he ate, Theo gave Kira a look of admiration.

'How can this female know such a thing? Even the elders in the tribe do not know this technique. Why does she know about it?'

All the persimmons they ate in the past were bitter.

As such, they concluded that the fruit was always bitter and inedible. They thought the same for the red persimmons and never dared to taste it.

Jayda smiled at Keith. "Doesn't it taste delicious, Keith? Kiki's idea is fantastic!"

However, Keith ignored Jayda and stared at Kira in disbelief instead.

The Kira in his memory was completely different from the girl in front of him. However, he had no idea why. He suspected that it was probably another scheme of hers.

Since Keith hadn't replied, Jayda added, "Keith, you lose. As such, you have to fulfill your promise to her."

"I understand. As the loser, I'll do what she asked."

Although he remained doubtful, he had no choice but accept defeat.

Kira smiled when she saw Keith's expression.

"Kiki, you're an intelligent girl. We have no idea that you can do that to those fruits. I admire you so much. Keith, you're female is really smart. You should be grateful to have her. Why are you so adamant about chasing her away? Stop being like this. Otherwise, I'll get mad at you."

It seemed that people here were quite open about things like mating. When she heard she was being addressed as someone's female, Kira blush in embarrassment.

"Moreover, I have no idea why you can't speak, Kiki. Are you born like that, or did something happened to you?"

Kira remembered that the original owner of the body could speak. However, she had no idea why she couldn't now. As such, Kira pointed at her throat while looking at Kasha. It was a gesture to say that she was able to speak before.

A hint of hope flashed across Kasha's eyes. "In that case, maybe there's a way to remedy your situation. Jayda, take K to the priest. There might be a way to cure her. It might get problematic if you remain mute for the rest of your life."

When she heard this, Kira grew excited.

She wished to speak all this time. As such, she nodded with a smile.

"That's a great idea, Mama. Why haven't I thought of it? Fortunately, the priest had just returned from collecting herbs from the wild during the past few days. Let's go to Uncle Jerome right now. He's the best priest in the tribe."

"Get there as soon as possible. I'll wait for you here while cooking,"

Kasha said as she pushed Keith towards Kira.

The four of them then headed towards the shelter of Priest Jerome.

"Jayda, Priest Jerome is an odd man. He might not easily agree to help us. There's a chance that he might tell us to go away."

Theo feared that Jayda might get sad if Priest Jerome didn't help them. After all, she already had her hopes up. As such, he wanted to let her know what might happen.

"I know that. However, Keith is with us. Since Priest Jerome is fond of him, we don't need to worry. He'll definitely listen to Keith."

'Keith seems popular around here, ' Kira thought in admiration.

When he noticed that she was ogling at him, Keith told her, "Why are you staring at me? Don't get your hopes up. I can't guarantee anything. All we can do is trust in your fate."

Finally, they arrived just outside Priest Jerome's cave and called for him.

Outside the cave was a large lawn. On it was several herbs that were being dried under the sun.

"What's with the commotion? Can you please quietly go away? I have just returned from a long trip. Please don't disturb me while I rest."

An old man came out of the cave.

The clothes he was wearing were also made from beast hide and fur.

Kira looked at the angry old man standing in front of the cave. His long white beard came from both sides of his face.

It seemed that the man had never shaved in his life.

Since the old man looked rather funny, Kira couldn't help but laugh.

"Why are you laughing?" Jerome pointed at Kira with a furious expression.

When she noticed that the situation wasn't great, Jayda immediately approached Jerome. "Please don't get mad, Uncle Jerome. Kiki is laughing because she's too happy to see you. Anyway, when have you returned?"

At that moment, Jerome's stern expression finally softened.

"I've just arrived. Haven't you noticed that I was resting inside just now? You woke me up while I was resting."

With a smile, Jayden replied, "I only heard that you returned a while ago. As such, Keith and I decided to visit you."

An excited grin flashed across Jerome's face. "Keith is here? Where is he? Boy, come closer. It's great that you still remember to visit me."

Keith smiled as he looked at Jerome.

In the past life, Keith became sick. As such, Jerome went to the edge of the cliff to pick some valuable herbs to cure Keith. Unfortunately, Jerome fell off and died.

However, he was still holding the herbs that could cure Keith when they found his body.

At the thought of it, Keith became angry.

As such, he must expose Kira's true colors to everyone.

"Your eyes are red, Keith. Are you okay?" Jerome asked in a concerned voice.

Finally, Keith came to his senses and replied, "I had some sand in my eyes just now. Don't mind it. Have you gathered some rare herbs in the wild, Priest Jerome?"

With a nod, Jerome excitedly answered, "Yeah, I did. I found a decade-old wild Ganoderma lucidum."

When Jayda heard that, she exclaimed, "That's fantastic, Priest Jerome. I heard to Ganoderma lucidum is difficult to find."

"That's true. Anyway, you're not just here to visit me, right? What do you want?"

Jayda playfully stuck her tongue out at Jerome. "Well, we need your help, Priest Jerome. Kiki has a problem with her vocal cord and now can't speak. Can you examine her?"
