Chapter 3 Tori

Kira slowly trudged the forest.

The path in the mountain was rugged and uneven. She had no idea how long she had been walking that her legs were getting stiff and tired.

She did not encounter anyone as she walked. It seemed that nobody was in the forest but her.

If there was a primitive man, there should be a tribe, right?

Humans were social animals and could not be separated from other humans for too long. If Kira found their tribe, she should be able to take advantage of what she had learned about primitive people.

Not far away, she heard the roar of beasts. She could not help but tremble in fear upon hearing that.

Kira looked at her arms and legs. They were thin and looked as though she had never done any heavy work. One could even say that she was a princess of some tribe who had been abducted and sold.

All of a sudden, her stomach rumbled in hunger.

She stroked her belly and thought to herself, 'How unlucky am I to travel to this era?!'

Ironically, there were many unknown dangers everywhere while there was nothing to eat.

How she missed the modern times so much! There, when she felt hungry, one click and her food would be delivered to her immediately.

Kira had been walking nonstop, yet she had not found the primitive man's tribe. She stopped in her tracks and pondered for a moment. After a while, she decided to go back to the man's cave.

Although the man wanted to mate with her at first, he did not insist on doing so. Instead, he changed his attitude towards her and let her go.

Thankfully, she could understand what that man was saying, so she surmised that negotiating with him would be her best chance.

Compared with the beasts in the forest outside, she believed it would be safer to stay with that man.

While she was walking back to the cave, she observed the surroundings if there were fruits or something she could eat along the way.

But, in this era, the harsh environment was beyond her imagination.

On the way, the only thing that looked edible was a mushroom underneath a tree.

She imagined how delicious it would be when made into a soup.

Kira could not help but swallow hard at the thought of that scrumptious meal.

Unfortunately, that mushroom could not be eaten raw. She did not even know if it was poisonous or not. What if she got poisoned after eating it?

Unexpectedly, she heard the sound of water streaming not far from her.

'Since I can't find anything to eat, I'll just drink water instead, ' she mused.

She could try to catch some fish and make fire from wood like a primitive human.

At the thought of this, she happily walked towards the river.

The road to the river looked as though a lot of people walked on by often. As a result, it was not difficult for Kira to walk to the river.

Meanwhile, Keith was in high spirits as he went to where his Mama was. He was happier, even more so than when he had first met the female.

He looked around and found that everything was where it was. The place where he often picked fruits, hunted, and chatted with his tribesmen remained untouched.

Honestly, the thought of the female betraying them still lingered in his mind. Apparently, the Edgars would seize the opportunity to occupy their place, lived in their best caves, and kicked them out of their homes.

While they were on the move to find another home, they encountered a natural disaster, causing most of his men, including himself, to die on that horrible day.

At the thought of this, Keith thought that even if the present was safe and tranquil, the disaster could still come in the future. Because of this, he believed he must quickly lead his people to find a safer and more suitable place for them to live.

However, he could not tell anyone about it yet. Nobody would believe him for sure. The least he could do at the moment was protect his people as much as he could.

As long as he found a better place where they could live, everything would be fine.

All of a sudden, an idea occurred to him.

He had heard that the Ikers from the North had found a good place in the South.

Actually, Keith's tribesmen had also been to the South. However, they only brought back disappointing news.

According to them, the water in the sea there smelled strange and was not potable. They actually tried doing so, but they felt sick afterward. They said that nobody would survive in such a place.

When the wind was strong, sometimes, the seawater could even soar and reach the sky and washed everything along its path.

His tribesmen reported that they once saw a man fishing on the shore got swept into the water and disappeared in an instant.

It was horrifying, indeed. Keith could not think of any words to describe how disastrous the sea could be. Such a dangerous place could not be called home.

But, the Ikers lived there. It must mean that there was something good about it. However, fighting over the territory was troublesome.

If they grabbed the territory from others, what was the difference between them and the Edgars?

Keith decided not to think about it for now. The only thing he wanted to do at the moment was to see his people.

On the other hand, As Kira was using a branch to support herself, trembling very badly.

She paved her way towards the river by listening carefully to its flow. She stumbled and tripped along the way, and it took her ten minutes to reach it.

Not caring about anything else, she drank straight from the river to quench her thirst and somehow alleviate her hunger. Then, she lay on the stone by the riverbank and basked in the sun while thinking about the meaning of life.

For a moment, she forgot that she was in a primitive world where danger was everywhere.

While she was resting on the stone, she casually opened her eyes and saw a tiger licking its lips and looking at her.

Her heart skipped a beat.

'Shit! I forgot that I was in a jungle. How could I let my guard down?

Am I going to be its food now?'

How ironic it was! Kira was hungry and had not eaten for a day. But now, she would end up as a tiger's food.

The tiger stretched out its claws and was about to pounce on Kira.

She lay petrified in the spot, trembling. All of a sudden, she heard a female voice call it.

"Tori, come here."

As if on cue, the tiger left at once.

Now that it was gone, Kira sat up and saw that the tiger was rubbing its head against a girl's leg.

The girl appeared to be slightly taller than Kira.

She was also wearing beast fur. On her face was some dirt, but she looked lovely nevertheless.

The fierce tiger a while ago was now as obedient as a pet cat. When the girl saw Kira on the ground, she tilted her head and smiled warmly at her. "Ah! I've seen you before. You are the little female my brother had found. My name is Jayda. What's your name? By the way, why are you here alone? It's dangerous. Also, where is my brother?"

The girl blinked her eyes inquisitively while smiling at Kira.

"This is my tiger, Tori. It seems that she likes you very much."

'Are you sure she likes me and doesn't want to eat me?'

But before Kira could say anything, she felt a pang in her throat.

It seemed that she could not make any sound. What happened? Why couldn't she speak?
