Chapter 5 The Title Of The Lou Family's Son-in-law

Two months later.

One night in the Rio Coffee Shop located at the commercial street, Dolores was waiting for Penny.

The rainy season was almost over, but the sun was still hiding behind the dark clouds.

She sat by the glass wall and watched the people walking outside. While enjoying her coffee, she saw Penny's graceful figure entered the door.

There was a ready smile on Dolores' face when she stood up to greet her.

But when she noticed Penny's gloomy aura, her smile faded. "I should give you a mirror so you can see yourself. Look at your sad face. Didn't you just get married? You're not going to die, are you?"

No matter how Penny disliked the idea, she still got married to Phillip.

They just got their marriage certificate, without holding a wedding ceremony.

Until now, Penny could still remember how Willow took her to the study room in their villa to talk about this marriage over a cup of tea.

"Penny, don't think that I'm too old to know anything. I know what happened between you and Phil in the past. Whether it was when we used to live together or now that I already live in this villa all alone, I am always aware of what's happening.

Although Phil has been part of our family for a long time now, he is still an adopted son. Many years had passed, but we never changed his surname. Why? It is to remind him of his identity.

We don't want to cross boundaries. Adopted children, no matter how brilliant they are, are still adopted children. They will never be biological children.

We are not related by blood, and we are not even close like a real family. If your uncle hadn't died, Phillip wouldn't have been the chairman of the Lou Group. I'm old, and you've never done business. If you think about it deeply, he is the only one we can count on.

Penny, think about it. If you don't marry Phillip, he will have more power over the Lou Group. What if after two years, he will change the name of the company? Our family has gone through a lot of ups and downs to build it. Are we really going to let him take everything our family worked hard for?"

Looking straight into her eyes, Willow reached out and held Penny's hand. "Penny, I know that he hurt you before, but you used to like him so much. You must have an emotional foundation, right?

I don't want you to sacrifice yourself for the sake of the Lou Family. I just beg you to think it over. Remember that in this world, there are things we really cannot control." Penny remained silent, while Willow looked so tired. She let out a heavy sigh before continuing, "It's not what it used to be."

To say that she was shocked to hear her grandmother beg was an understatement.

The rain was pouring outside, but the room was strangely quiet.

Whenever she thought about this memory, her grandmother's haggard but kind face would always appear on her mind.

Only when Dolores spoke again did Penny come back to her senses. "Honey, your face looked worse than rotten leaves! It seems that your marriage life is not good... Alas, if you really hate him so much, think of something you can do that can make him hate you to the point he will ask for divorce!"

"Dolores, you are underestimating Phillip." Shaking her head, Penny added, "If only it was that easy. He doesn't care whether I hate him or not at all anymore. What he wants is just the title of the Lou Family's son-in-law. For him, I'm just an amulet to strengthen his identity."

Everything was clear to Penny even before they got married.

When Phillip swore in front of Willow that he would marry her, she knew it had nothing to do with love.

Well, how could he still like her?

Three years ago, on the night before the engagement party Cody personally organized for them, Phillip caught her with a male model in bed. Only a quilt was covering her body, but she didn't panic. She continued smoking, while looking at him with seductive and defiant eyes.

All the veins in Phillip's forehead became visible due to anger, which rarely happened.

Most of the time, he was introverted and restrained. But that night, he pulled the male model out of bed, and beat the hell out of him.

Instead of stopping him, Penny just smiled as if she was enjoying a great show while taking a drag on her cigarette.

Once Phillip was satisfied with beating up the man she was with, he turned around and looked at her as if he wanted to kill her.
