Chapter 4 Counteract The Bad Luck

Willow was in no mood to pay attention to that matter. In her simple, elegant cheongsam and with her silver hair tied up behind her head, she was the picture of dignified kindness.

"My precious little girl! How could you stay away for three years?" Despite her scolding tone, Willow had tears in her eyes as she looked at Penny. "However, it's okay now, now that you're home."

"Grandma, I'm so sorry." Penny rarely ever appeared fragile. Choking back her sobs, she reassured Willow, "I'm doing fine out there, Grandma You don't have to worry about me."

Willow looked at her with affection. Then, she took Phillip's hand as he stood next to her and placed it over Penny's. "From now on, you two should behave. You need to put that unfinished business of your marriage back on the agenda. My children were already able to walk when I was at your age."

When Phillip's skin touched hers, Penny's fingers instinctively curled up into a fist. The touch of his dry, warm palm was a familiar feeling to her.

However, her mind had already been closed to him.

She felt ill at ease, but Phillip didn't seem to notice her discomfort. Instead, he just kept holding her delicate hand calmly.

Flashing an innocent smile at Willow, Phillip said, "Grandma, I've been meaning to talk to Penny about our marriage as soon as she came back."

Penny's heart jolted at the words. Her teeth gritted in anger, she reminded herself that she couldn't lose her temper in front of Willow. She forced a smile and deliberately changed the topic. "By the way, Grandma, I went to the cemetery to visit Uncle Cody's grave as soon as I got off the plane yesterday. I didn't expect him to leave us so soon. I remember that he had always been in good health..."

Willow's face darkened at the mention of her son's name, and she looked a little dazed. "Alas, it's not the first time that I've had to bury my own child. My three sons all had short lives..."

Erica stepped forward and helped Willow sit on the sofa.

She always became emotional when she spoke about the first half of her life. Perhaps now, she had grown numb.

"I really don't understand what kind of curse our family has been hit. If matters went on like this, I'm afraid those greedy traitors would snatch away our property. But mark my words, they would never succeed for as long as I'm still alive!"

Willow lifted her head and looked at Penny. "So, you'd better get married to Phil as soon as possible. Let's take advantage of the blessings from your marriage to counteract our family's bad luck. I want the whole city to know that our family is not on the decline!"

Willow steered them back to the topic of their marriage and watched Penny like a hawk.

The meaning of her words was very clear: the Lou Family would give their full support to Penny's marriage with Phillip.

'How ironic, ' Penny thought to herself. Back when Phillip and she were in a relationship, they had to do everything to hide it from the whole Lou Family.

An adopted son who came out of an orphanage fell in love with the most precious little princess of the Lou Family. If the elders of the Lou Family found out about it, they would definitely object to their relationship. Thus, they used to arrange to meet each other secretly.

They hid it from everyone for fear of their relationship being exposed.

Now, their association was long over, and they no longer trusted each other. However, the old woman, who remained blissfully unaware of the fact, urged them, "You two should get married."

This time, Penny came to explain this to Willow. Taking a deep breath, she said in a serious tone, "Grandma, I'm sorry for letting you down. I hate to disappoint you, but I don't want to marry Phillip."
