Chapter 3 I Won't Marry Him

No man would ever allow another to take away his wife, which was considered a disgrace.

"Mr. Xia, Uncle Talon hasn't said anything yet. Why are you being anxious already?" Gavin spared one look at Neil before he continued to ignore him. It was obvious he didn't see Neil as a threat.

"What's going on, Talon?" Mr and Mrs. Xia asked. They were beginning to get anxious at the drama unfolding. The wedding was essentially ruined now because of the intruding young man. Why did Talon even allow him to talk nonsense?

Talon knew he was backed into a corner with no escape in sight. He took a resentful glance at Gavin before he said to Mr. and Mrs. Xia, "I'm truly sorry for this. But Gavin and Bonnie's engagement had been there before Neil even came into the picture. Since Gavin is back now, we cannot continue with..."

He trailed off but the unspoken words were obvious to all the people in the hallowed hall.

Mr. and Mrs. Xia grew red with anger. They swayed a bit, feeling a little faint at the revelation. Neil hurried to his parents' side and supported them. He was about to ask more but his father stopped him.

"Congratulations, Talon. It seems like you have found someone to help your family out this time," Mr. Xia said. He felt so humiliated. If it weren't for the guests present, he would have hit Talon.

It was clear that Talon changed his mind after the intruder talked with him. He was promised twice the amount the Xia family was about to offer him. Of course, he was changing his mind.

"Mr. Xia, it's not like that. I..." Talon tried to explain but it was obvious Mr. and Mrs. Xia weren't interested to hear his explanation anymore.

The only one who wanted to hear his explanation was Neil. And even though he wanted to know what was happening, he was dragged away by Mr. and Mrs. Xia. Their relatives and friends followed them out of the church. They wanted to know more but they valued their relationship with the Xia family more.

"Uncle Talon, I came back to fulfill my engagement with Bonnie. And since we have a wedding prepared right now, we might as well take advantage of it." Gavin looked at Talon's pale face before he continued, "How about I marry Bonnie today?"

Bonnie was the person most affected by their talks but she was forced to stay out of it all the time. Hearing Gavin's question, she sharply turned to her father just in time to see him nod. She wanted to laugh bitterly.

This was absurd. And of course, it was happening to her. She was really that unfortunate.

She had two fiances in the span of one day. One was tied to her to improve her family's interests. And the other just offered double the amount the first one did.

"No. I won't marry you."

Bonnie agreed to marry Neil to save her family. But that didn't mean she was willing to be sold to the highest bidder by her father.

She was a human being, for God's sake. She might not have much but she still had her pride.

Hearing Bonnie's rejection, Talon walked towards Bonnie and slapped her across her face.

The loud sound reverberated throughout the church. By then, Bonnie's mother, Rosa, snapped out of her daze and realized what just happened. She screamed at her husband and took her daughter in her arms. "If you touch Bonnie again, I'll fight you to death."

She didn't agree to have Talon use their daughter as a bargaining chip to improve their family's financial state. If it weren't for Bonnie agreeing to the deal and that they had a younger son to take care of, Rosa wouldn't have agreed to this wedding in the first place.

But now that their daughter was the one telling them no, she didn't see the reason to continue this farce.

"Get out of my way, Rosa!" Talon tried to grab Rosa's arm and throw her away from their daughter.

He was furious. How dare his wife and daughter try to oppose him? Didn't they understand that someone from the Zhuo family was enough trouble? They didn't need to add more to his stress right now.

"Dad, let go of Mom." Bonnie tried to squeeze out of her mother's hold and stood in front of her to protect her from her father. She narrowed her eyes at her father and said, "I told you. I'm not marrying him. Even if you kill me right now, I won't marry him."
