Chapter 9 Make A Bet With All of You

Heidy walked into the meeting room of the Hua Group, holding her head high and dressed in a sophisticated business suit. Before taking her seat, she bowed politely and said, "Hello, everyone." Then she focused ahead.

Director Wang, who was sitting at the extreme left of the table spoke first. "Ms. Hua, our Chairman has just passed away. We need a suitable person to hold the same position and CEO. Also, the Hua Group needs a leader."

Heidy nodded, "I know. My father had made arrangements before he died. I will take over the company on behalf of my father. My father wanted the same, I'm sure. So..."

Before she could finish her words, Director Wang interrupted and disagreed with her, "Ms. Hua, even though you have taken over the shares of our ex-Chairman, you have no experience in management. It'd be ridiculous and risky to let an inexperienced girl lead us. Mr. Xu has been doing well in these past two years. As he's your husband, it'd be wise if you could hand over the post of CEO to him."

Heidy's eyes shifted to Jack before she said, "Director Wang, although I have no experience, I will try my best to lead my father's company. The distribution of shares in the Hua Group speaks on its own. At present, I hold 70% of the shares, which means that I am the biggest decision maker, right?"

As the words left her mouth, a murmuring spread across the room. "Ms. Hua, your father made a mistake in decision-making last month, which caused us a heavy loss of several hundred million. The company is suffering from a financial crisis due to this. We are worried that you will be responsible for that as well, if you take charge," one of the directors said.

"You are right. Jack Xu is the son of the Chairman of JA Group. If you let Mr. Xu lead the company, I believe that he can definitely persuade Jacob Xu to help our company get through difficulties. So I believe, it'd be the best decision, if you give the title of CEO to Mr. Xu," Director Wang said seriously.

Jack smiled slyly, looking directly at Heidy. He was determined to be the CEO.

Heidy clenched her fists under the table to keep her cool, while eyeing the faces sitting around the table. She knew she couldn't lose her temper at this moment.

"Hua Group is made from Hua family's painstaking efforts. Even if Jack Xu is my husband, he is not from Hua family. I don't want my late father to be disappointed by the selection of an outsider as the CEO. I won't give up the title of CEO and Chairman just because I don't have experience. Experience can be gained," Heidy announced loudly.

Jack had been silently watching everything. Now he spoke up, "Heidy, why don't you prove your worth to the directors? Otherwise, they won't trust in your capability."

Heidy furrowed her eyebrows and threw a look at him. "What do you mean?"

"The company is currently facing financial difficulties, cash flow problems, and needs to raise fund urgently. If you can bring a project worth a hundred million dollars within a week or get a financing with the similar amount of money, I believe, only then, you'll prove your ability to run the company without any worries," Jack suggested with a smile.

Others nodded their agreement. "Yes. If you can do that, we will accept you as the leader. But if you can't, we can only make you the Chairperson of the company. That also, because you hold the major percentage of the shares. And Mr. Xu will be the CEO of the company," Director Wang concluded.

Eyeing them, Heidy realized she had no other choice. "Okay, I accept," said Heidy gravely.

Jack's eyes twinkled as he smiled with satisfaction. He was so certain that Heidy was doomed to lose this time. Jack shifted his gaze on her and their eyes met.

Heidy said nothing but scowled, then arose from her seat and walked out of the meeting room. Jack followed her out immediately. "Heidy, don't get angry at me. I did this for the company's sake."

Heidy hastily turned and stared into his eyes, one of the corners of her lips tilted up sarcastically. "Don't get elated just yet. It's not easy to defeat me." She spoke flatly before turning away and walked into the elevator.
