Chapter 4 The Performance

Today was the luxurious funeral day of the former president of Hua Group. Many of his friends and acquaintances in A City had come to see him off for the last time. In the frontline, Jack Xu with the other family members were worshiping.

"The eldest daughter of the Hua family hasn't shown up yet. Has something really happened?" one of the journalists whispered.

A moment later, a middle-aged woman arose from her seat with the support of Sherry Hua, and slowly turned towards the guests. "To all the relatives and friends, thank you so much for coming to see my husband off. If he was alive, he would have kept everyone's kindness in his heart. On behalf of the Hua family, I am very grateful to all of you." She bowed slightly as she spoke.

Immediately after she finished speaking, the journalists swarmed forward and aimed their cameras on her and the rest of the family. "Mrs. Hua, Heidy Hua hasn't appeared till now. We have heard that she got injured. Heidy Hua is the heir to the Hua Group. Now that something has happened to her and she couldn't take the responsibility, who will be the next chairman of the Hua Group?"

Jack stepped forward and answered on behalf of Mrs. Hua, "Heidy is fine. She is just crestfallen and not feeling well. That is the only reason of why she is absent in today's funeral."

But Jack's words were cut short as a delicate voice was overheard from the crowd. "Today is Dad's last day with us. No matter how sad I am, I will not be absent from giving him farewell."

Jack's eyes shifted to the familiar voice owner. It was Heidy. She walked towards them in her mourning dress, looking safe and sound. She didn't look sick at all. Seeing her appearance, Jack frowned.

The reporters immediately surrounded her as soon as she came through. "Ms. Hua, we have heard the news of you being seriously ill for a few days. Is that true?"

"Do I look like seriously ill to you? A few days ago, I was a little tired. So, my husband thought I was ill and he got worried. So, he prepared a performance to make me happy. However, because of the performance, I couldn't show up in the mourning hall in the past days."

"Ms. Hua, could you please tell us what the performance was?" a reporter asked curiously.

Looking directly at Jack, Heidy answered slowly, "It takes two people to work together to finish the performance. But now it's not the time to talk about this. I will tell everyone after my father's funeral. It's almost the time for my father's burial."

"Ms. Hua, will you inherit the Hua Group?" a reporter shouted from behind.

Glancing at Jack for a moment, Heidy answered with a smile, "Of course. My father has devoted all his efforts to the Hua Group, so I won't hand it over to any outsider. Jack, don't you think it's a wise decision?"

As his name was taken, Jack had to reciprocate. He looked a little disgruntled, but refrained himself from showing it off. He instead replied with a smile, "Of course, Heidy. I'll give you all the help and support you need to take care of the Hua Group."

His feigned sweet talk wiped off the smirk Heidy was wearing. Her eyes got filled with coldness. Ignoring his words and him, she walked up to her stepmother, whose name was Mary Song. "Let's begin."

The journalists present there caught the subtle change between Heidy and Jack's relationship. It was evident from their interaction that something was off. The journalists speculated, the rumors about them might be true after all.

As soon as Heidy's dad was buried in the grave, Heidy stood in front of the tombstone and felt sad to see her beloved father leaving them forever. She remembered how he had cared for her since she was a child. Heidy got down on her knees, slowly placed her hands on the tombstone and stroked it gently. She whispered softly, "Father, have a good rest here. You have put all your hard work in Hua Group's prosperity. I'll never let anyone mess with it."

Jack came to her and held her arm. "It's time to go home, Heidy."

Frowning in disgust, Heidy pulled her hand away from his grip and said coldly, "Jack Xu, I will want to settle the dispute between us as soon as possible." Spitting the words harshly, Heidy turned and walked away with an expressionless face.

Jack watched the way she went. He was in a flabbergasted trance for a moment. A moment later, his expression changed as well. A hint of bitter feeling flashed through his heart. Glancing behind her back, Jack clenched his fist.

Meanwhile, not far away from them, a dark Bugatti Veyron was waiting. Hearst Tan was leaning against the seat and his cold eyes were on Heidy and Jack. He tapped his fingers rhythmically; from his face no one could tell what he was thinking.

"Boss, I've got things settled. What should we do next?" Hearst's assistant hung up the phone and asked.

Eyes still on Heidy's lonely back, Hearst said coldly, "Let's go back to the company."

The assistant nodded. The driver stepped on the accelerator as the engine came alive. No one noticed the car slowly driving away from the spot.
