Chapter 5 I Am Divorcing You

The atmosphere of Hua family villa's living room was serious. Heidy was sitting on the sofa, expressionless. She took a deep breath, then looked up at Jack and Sherry, who were standing in front of her. "Do you know why I didn't make your love affair public? Because I didn't want my father's funeral day getting spoiled."

Jack stepped forward, knelt before her and held one of her hands. "I'm sorry, Heidy. It was an accident. I'm not serious about Sherry. It was just an impulse. You are the one I really love. Heidy, trust me."

"Yes, Heidy. He's telling the truth. You have always been kind to me. I really don't want to compete with you. You have always been loving and forgiving towards me since I was a child. Forgive me this last time, please. I promise I'll stay away from Jack," Sherry also came forward and held Heidy's other hand and pleaded.

But Heidy had had enough of this drama. The moment Sherry stopped speaking, Heidy kicked both of them directly and snapped with a sneer, "For the love of God, get the hell out of my house! Don't you have a little bit of conscience left? You cheated on me expecting I wouldn't find out? How could you, Jack and Sherry?"

Jack steadied himself then spoke quietly, "Heidy, I won't divorce you. Man makes mistakes. I did too and learned my lesson. I won't do it in future. I love you. I will use my whole life to make up to you. I promise."

With a scornful smile, Heidy's eyes turned red as she questioned, "If you've really loved me for at least once, you wouldn't have conspired with Sherry to murder me. Jack, is this your way of loving me?"

Jack opened his mouth to say something but could not form any words for a few seconds. He quickly thought a way out, then pointed at Sherry. "It was Sherry's suggestion. I was obsessed at that time and agreed to her. Heidy, I swear, I regret it now. When I tried to stop the doctor, I heard that you left the hospital."

Sherry was in shock when she heard Jack speaking against her. Her eyes widened and face turned pale. She countered him angrily, "Jack, are you putting all the blame on me? It was you!"

"Get out of here, both of you. Jack, I have decided already that I'll divorce you. You cannot change my decision," Heidy bellowed.

Seeing that her pleading didn't work, Sherry hastily stood up and shouted back, "I won't leave. I'm also a part of Hua family. How can you drive me away? This is my home too, and I'll stay here. Heidy Hua, how can you be so selfish? Dad just left, and you're already trying to drive me away? If Dad were alive, he wouldn't have discriminated between us."

Heidy sneered listening to Sherry's accusation. "Sherry, if you have forgotten, let me remind you one more time. It was me who took pity on you and made Dad agree to take you into our family. I have been so kind to you, but you are so ungrateful. If Father were still alive, he would have dismissed your adoption right away. I'm still being generous towards you by only letting you go without any fuss. It's all for your own good."

Meanwhile, Mary Song went downstairs when she heard them arguing. She interrupted them with a frown, "Sherry also is our daughter. I don't want you to drive her away."

When Sherry heard Mary speaking in her favor, she quickly ran over to her and held her hand. She began sobbing to gain Mary's sympathy, "Mom, help me, please. She is going to drive me away."

Heidy stood up from the sofa and said to her stepmother softly, "Auntie Mary, I guess you have heard what Sherry and Jack have done. I know that you care about Sherry, but she did wrong this time. Now she must face the consequences."

Mary looked at Heidy softly and said, "Heidy, I know you are angry right now. But Sherry has apologized for her deed. Don't stretch the matter now. Sherry, don't worry. As I'm here, no one can drive you away."

Heidy's eyebrows furrowed as she saw Mary defending Sherry openly. "I'm sorry, but no one can stop me today from driving her away," said Heidy, gritting her teeth.

"I'm your father's wife. What's wrong with you? How can you be so disobedient to me? No one can lay a hand on her without my permission, and that's final," said Mary arrogantly.

Over the years, Heidy and Mary got along well. But she didn't expect that as soon as her father passed away, the two would start having disagreements. At the moment, both of them were in a stalemate.

The butler hurried forward and sought their attention, "Mrs. Hua, Ms. Heidy, could you please stop quarreling? Ms. Heidy, the time is not a favorable one. It will be disgraceful to drive away Ms. Sherry now. How about dealing with it later?"

Heidy turned to the butler and refrained herself from bursting out in anger. "Okay, I'll give them more time. But she's not anymore allowed to live in the main house. Move all of Sherry's stuff into the back house."

"No, that building is so remote," Sherry protested. "Mom, please help me."

Mary nodded to comfort her and was about to say something, but before she could say something, Heidy held up her hand. "Auntie Mary, if Sherry is unwilling to stay there, I suggest you take her place. In the Hua family, I am the one in charge. I respect you as my stepmother. But if you go too far, I'll have to disobey you."

Mary frowned as Heidy warned her. She said nothing after that. The butler studied both of their faces for a moment then obliged, "Yes, Ms. Heidy."

Sherry stared at Heidy angrily. She was unwilling to leave, but she could do nothing.

Heidy felt so disheartened seeing everyone was against her. A realization suddenly dawned on her. She had a tough battle to fight in the near future.
