Chapter 10 Cry Baby

At dusk, in the quiet cemetery, Heidy was standing quietly in front of her father's tombstone. She looked at the tombstone as tears streamed down her face. She slowly crouched down, caressed the picture on the tombstone softly, and said in melancholy, "Dad, it's so difficult to manage the company. Without you, I feel so alone, and I don't know what to do."

The whole Hua Group was under Jack's control. While Heidy, being the nominal chairperson, had no real power. She asked the managers to collect and bring all the relevant documents to her, but no one listened to her.

She even called several renowned companies today and tried to persuade them in having a collaboration. But denial was what she got in return. She tried hard, but no one was willing to give her a helping hand.

She was feeling more crestfallen when she was reminding herself that if she couldn't succeed within a week, all her hopes would wash away. At this moment, she felt so helpless.

She sobbed as tears rolled down and fell on the grass. Before Heidy had the chance to wipe away her tears, she heard footsteps behind her. The sudden intrusion startled her as she raised her head and turned in a swift motion. It was Hearst. Heidy frowned seeing him. "What are you doing here?"

Hearst Tan didn't respond immediately. Instead he walked over to the gravestone and put down the flowers he was carrying. He straightened then focused on Heidy. "I came to worship."

Heidy blinked and averted her gaze. Wiping away her tears, she stood up, a little confused and asked, "What do you mean? Were you my father's friend when he was alive?"

Hearst noticed the tears stuck on her eyelashes. Before she could object, he reached out and wiped off the tears and said, "Don't cry. Are you a cry baby?"

Heidy winced at his touch. She took a step back to avoid the contact, then raised her chin and explained calmly, "It's because of the dust that got into my eyes. Today the wind is strong."

Hearst smiled at her naive explanation. He nodded, "Well, strong wind is good."

Heidy didn't want to waste time on talking nonsense with him, so she said flatly, "Since you have already worshiped, can you leave now? I want to talk to my father. I don't want to be disturbed."

"Your company has encountered some problems. But it can't be the reason for you to shed useless tears," said Hearst casually, burying his hands in his pockets.

Heidy's eyes widened when he said that. She looked up at him vigilantly. "You've been eavesdropping? How dare you? Tell me clearly, what is your motive?"

Hearst replied as calm as he was before, "I don't need to eavesdrop. My motive lies in you."

The more Heidy was getting acquainted with this man, the more mysterious he was appearing. But still, she wasn't sure whether he was a friend or an enemy. As she realized he wouldn't give her a direct answer, Heidy turned around and left.

But she couldn't go far as Hearst's voice from behind made her stop in her track. Hearst said in an indifferent tone, "Hua Group is one of the top three listed groups in A City. Although your company does good business, its rank is still third. The second one is JA Group. However, the collaborating partnership between JA Group and Hua Group has been weakened in the last six months. The shareholders of Hua Group want to take this opportunity and strengthen the partnership with JA Group. That's why they want to make Jack Xu the CEO. They want to enhance the cooperation to drive the company's profit."

Heidy wasn't expecting such information from him. When she learned all of that, she couldn't help but turn around. She gazed at him directly and said, "I know. That's why Jack proposed that I should bring partnership or financing to aid our company's stable economy. I know, he has no good intention but to kick me out. But if he succeed, Hua Group will go under him."

It was true that Heidy had been working in this group for quite a long time, but still she found herself useless. At home, she felt like an outsider. Mary Song had gone against her, and Heidy couldn't trust Sherry anymore. And at office, Heidy was just the nominal chairperson. No one took her seriously.

"The companies you've approached are all small companies. They couldn't afford doing business worth a hundred million dollars. That's the reason why you aren't getting any help," Hearst explained calmly.

Heidy lowered her head and felt a lump in her throat. She looked at the man in front of her and said with a smile, "Uncle Hearst, you're a relative to the Xu family. I don't think it is appropriate for you to say things against them."

When she addressed him as uncle, Hearst tried not to pay attention to it. He stepped forward and leaned down then whispered, "I'm just a relative of the Xu family. We are not close to each other."

Heidy stared at him, trying to decipher his words. A moment later, she said, "Uncle, I have nothing to do with your relationship with Xu family. It's pretty late. I think I should leave now," Heidy said so then turned and walked away without looking back.

Hearst didn't stop her this time. He knew that she would come back to him in the end. Hearst only shifted his gaze on the gravestone, and murmured, "I will keep my promise."
