Chapter 4 I'll Become Your Luna

Selene's POV

"You must be kidding me, Selene," she chuckled nervously. "Do you have any idea who Alpha Damian is? He is the second strongest after Alpha Asher and-"

"And his biggest rival too. Actually, he was among the five Alphas who sent in proposals to my father when I was very much younger than this. It was in his plans to have me as his ruler once and since, the ungrateful and arrogant, wolf, Asher not just rejected what many yearns for, but thinks he can take advantage of me now, I might as well grant him his wish," I spoke through gritted teeth, recalling vividly how I was banished from the pack and publicly humiliated.

"I understand your pain, Selene, but Alpha Damian would want more when he gets a taste of you. Are you ready to be his Luna if he asks for it?"

"Aside from his thirst for revenge, he is twice more responsible than Asher himself, and I don't mind ruling beside a more honorable Alpha than Asher."

My words made Elaine very uncomfortable as she kept looking for ways to counter the plan. However, she became weak when I opened the envelope. My dad wrote a list of possible actions Asher might take to bring me back and what he thought were good solutions to them. As if he could read my mind, Alpha Damian was in the options except that he was the last resort.

"I think that you should really reconsider this, Selene. If things go south with Alpha Damian, you'll end up granting yourself two powerful enemies and one is enough."

"Things won't go south especially since we have the same agenda. We're one in this and as long as the goal remains the same, we won't have any reason to be scared or to prepare for war."

"Fine, then," she sighed in defeat.

"But he'll be the one to send in the invitation if not, I'm not letting you go look desperate before that Alpha."

"You know there is no way he'd know where I am, right?"

"This is an Alpha's affair and I bet you know how much even the wind carries affairs like this. He knew about your rejection and he is going to hear about this too, so relax and let him do what needs to be done," she spoke firmly, standing her ground on the subject.

"Alright then, but after three days, We'll be paying him a visit ourselves."

She disliked the sound of everything that I said, but I didn't give her much of an option. I left her to contemplate the already-made decision while I retired to bed.

The three days had passed as I told Elaine and the events that happened in it were enough to convince her. Asher was not just arrogant but without manners; he was sending anyone and everyone to me, and just as Elaine feared, he would soon learn about my location if we failed to act fast.

"I guess we need to use our last resort now," I spoke up while drinking water from my glass.

"I guess so, too, and we need to leave soon."

We waited for the odd hours of the day when it was safe for me to travel, as the watchmen were very much vigilant during the odd hours of the night. We only packed a few things and took with us everything that could be traced back to us if our location was discovered.

"You do have guests, Alpha Damian," the muscular figure who led us through the dimly lit walls of Alpha Damian's packhouse spoke up.

"I do not attend to guests by this hour and you know it," he said with so much ease yet very stern.

"It's Selene Nightfall of the Ravens Pack," I spoke out before the man could drag me away.

Silence fell in the room as Damian took his time before turning to meet my gaze. He looked rather shocked than angry and I watched as his lips slowly curved into a smirk.

"The rejected Luna and now, the one being sought amongst commoners."

"I need your help," I swallowed hard, admitting to myself that he might not have been the best option.

"Of course you do, Selene," he smirked before gesturing for us to be left alone. "Your father rejected my proposal, you got rejected. Currently, you are wanted by the same man who publicly rejected you, and all of a sudden, you come seeking my help," he tilted his head to the side, finding the situation laughable.

"I wouldn't be here if I had a way of helping myself and I would deeply appreciate it if you do."

"You do know that I wanted you to be my Luna once, right?"

"I don't know about now as that was only a moment in the past," I matched the tone in which he spoke. The one that held so much power and the ability to silence anyone.

He chuckled to himself while Elaine used the opportunity she had to warn me against being careless with my decision.

"What is in for me if I give you shelter and protect you from Asher my very good friend," he smiled sarcastically, eyeing me from head to toe before diverting his gaze to Elaine.

"I'll become your Luna afterward."

He seemed satisfied by my answer, which was of so much relief to me. He called for the maids to show me where Elaine and I would be spending the night.

"Let me know if you need anything else," the young maid said in so much humility before leaving.

I exchanged a glance with Elaine who was also looking timid. I knew what she was going to say so I helped her get it over with.

"It's starting to look like a very big mistake, but you have to trust me, Elaine, I'll be very careful with him, okay?"

"It's not like I have another choice, so just be extremely careful."

I nodded. We checked out the room, the closet, and everything else in the room. There were already clothes for us as though they were expecting me to show up. More reasons to watch my back. The maids came in again after some time to serve us dinner as it was already dark, but Elaine didn't trust the people of this place enough to eat what they served.

"Damian hasn't admitted it yet but he needs us alive-"

"He might be needing you, but he has no clear use for me. Relax, though. I'm good, and I'm always here for you," she gave me a beautiful smile, one I hadn't seen in a long time.

Immediately after the words left her mouth, another maid came in.

"The Alpha demands your presence, right away, my Lady," she announced.

"I'll be there soon."

"He asked that you follow me, my Lady."

I nodded and followed her to his room.

"Sit," he instructed and I did. "If you've noticed, you'll know that I was expecting your presence; in fact, I was going to have a letter delivered to you, and you must be wondering why?"

"Why is that, Alpha Damian," I replied calmly.

"It turns out that you are not the only one who needs help," he paused in the middle of the room after pacing back and forth for a long time. "And I do need your help. You will return to Asher as a friend. You will have everyone, including him, believe that you have forgiven him, and when he has fallen for your act, you will kill him. Afterward, you'd seek real greener pasture, and that is when you'll return to the pack to be my Luna," he smirked, leaving me speechless. What?

"I can't-"

"You will else, I'll have your father's head served as your dinner."
