Chapter 5 CRUEL JUSTICE

Killian's gaze pierced deep into Hazel's soul as it seemed to be boring holes into it. She fiddles with her fingers as she stands under his scrutinizing gaze. The tension between them was palpable, and Hazel's mind reeled with several possibilities. Has he found out about the curse?? Was he going to reject her??

"Come in." He mumbles almost in a whisper.

"You've found out, right??" She asks, her tone screaming uncertainty and fear of getting rejected.

Killian stares at her in silence for a moment. "As the Alpha of this pack..." He starts, and the tension begins to increase as Hazel stares at him, curiosity etched on her expression.

What was he about to say? What was going to be his decision??

"I have to prioritize pack laws over personal love affairs." Killian said and Hazel needed no one to tell her what he meant.

Killian pinches himself secretly as he could see the hurt in her eyes. This was the time he was supposed to be by her side but he wasn't doing any of that. He was trying to protect her because if the members of the pack learns that an outcast like her shared a bond with the alpha, her punishment would be greater than the latter. Though, he had his own selfish reasons too.

"I understand and I would respect your decision." Hazel finds herself saying in a whisper as tears begins to fall from her eyes, she turns and runs out.

Killian stares at her as guilt began eatung him up and he slumps dejectedly on his bed. What had he just done??

Hazel couldn't stop the tears from falling as she ran. She has just gotten rejected by her mate, the feeling was devastating, heartbreaking. What was she expecting anyways?? Was she expecting Killian to jump into her arms after learning of her curse?? He would surely try not to ruin his image.

She fell on the floor when she got to her favourite spot as the tears kept falling non-stop. "Why me!!! What have I done to deserve this?? How can fate be this cruel??" She yells out dejectedly.

Moments later, some guards approaches her as they bundled her up.

She begins to struggle with them. "Where are you taking me too??" She asks but none of them gave her a suitable response.

They half dragged her to the pack hall where the meeting wad to be held. There, she kneels in front of the pack elders. The members of the pack, including her parents were all present to witness her execution.

They kept throwing mean remarks at her as she receives glares and digust look from different corners.

She was definitely an outcast!!!

Just then, a loud bell was rang indicating the arrival of the royal family as everywhere became silent instantly. As they elegantly walked in, her gaze locks with Killian's and he looks away first, then her eyes met with Tatiana. Tatiana gave her a worried look. "I won't let you die....I promise." Tatiana mouthed and Hazel did her best to read her lips.

At least, beneath all this, she would never forget that one true friend who was always with her through thick and thorns.

An elder ascends the stage with a big scroll in his hands as he read out the pack rules, relating to Hazel's case.

"According to the pack laws that has been mad by our royal fathers, any wolf who is yet to discover her supernatural powers, having reached a certain age is pronounced cursed and must therefore face the consequences." Elder Orion reads out plainly.

The hall becomes noisy as the pack members nods their head in agreement while some were impatient, claiming they wanted to quickly know the outcome of her execution.

"Read out the punishment listed, Elder Orion." Fiona orders from her throne, where she sat majestically with Killian sitting on his throne. She was at his left hand side.

"Granted, My lady." Elder Orion said as he begins to list the punishments. The pack members began choosing the punishment as they screamed out the ones they preferred.

"Silence!!" Elder Orion orders as they all went mute.

Hazel glances around to meet several mocking faces and fake sympathy looks. Her eyes met with Mira's and she just sticks out her tongue mockingly.

From the corner of her eye, she could see her mother with an unreadable expression on. As she listens to the several punishments, she couldn't help but become more terrified.

"She must be beheaded!!!" The members begins to chant and it caused an uproar as everyone begins to chant.

The elders exchange glances with each other as they begin to rub minds.

The chants continues nevertheless and Tatiana fist clenched. How heartless could they be?? She fumes.

When Alpha Killian refuses to say a word, Fiona gives Elder Orion an eye sign and he nods. He orders the guards to place her on a stunt as they got the sword sharpened.

Hazel didn't do anything to restrain them as she just let herself get dragged.

She had finally accepted her fate and they could do go ahead and do whatever they wanted with her.

Tatiana shifts uneasily in her seat as she watched with widen eyes. She glances at Killian, his face held no expressions but in his eyes were unspoken emotions. What was she going to do now?? She had thought Killian was going to defend her but as it stands this might really be the end. She thoughts as she fiddles with her nails nervously.

"What's wrong??" Fiona asks when she notices her nervousness. "I'm fine." She mutters with an eye roll and Fiona just scoffs, looking away, a devilish smirk playing on her lips.

Soon she couldn't bear the pressure anymore as she stood up, yelling out.

"Don't you dare touch her!!" She blurts out, letting her emotions get the best part of her.

Hazel eyes widens as she shook her head, signalling to her to keep shut but Tatiana ignores her as she walks to a guard who was mishandling Hazel, she poked his chest with her claws and he fell dead.

Silence reigned as mouths opens in agape at the horrifying scene. "No one should dare lay a hand on her!!" She yells again.

"Stop this madness Tatiana." Fiona thunders, rising up.

"Why should I?? Tell me why?? You just want to kill an innocent blood who knows nothing about her curse. What if she isn't really cursed, think about the consequences that might occur if she is killed. I expect the elders to be wiser than this." Tatiana spats.

"I said that's enough!!" Fiona fires as she walks to her and lands a slap on her face.

"Why are you defending her?? What relationship do you share with her huh??" Fiona yells at her.

Mira smiles from where she stood, she was going surely going to use this to her best advantage.

"Lady Tatiana is a friend of Hazel's." Mira suddenly reveals to their amazement as everyone glances at her in shock.

"What the hell are you saying??" Hazel asks Mira, doing her best to defend Tatiana.

"We don't have to hide that anymore." Tatiana said as she held her hands.

"We are close friends, Mira is right!!" Tatiana mutters and everyone gasps.

"What the hell are you doing, Do you realise what you're saying?" Fiona asks.

"I can't hide this anymore, she is my friend and she isn't cur..."

Fiona lands her another slap before she could finish. "Guards!!!!" She screams as several guards ran to her, bowing to her.

"Take her out and lock her up in the dungeon!!" Fiona orders, referring to Tatiana.

"No...mom, you can't do this to me!!" Tatiana yells as she struggles with the guards. They eventually dragged her out.

Killian stares in amazement at the drama that just took place. He was meant to be in the same position with Tatiana but he couldn't make an attempt to protect her. He doesn't deserve her love at all.

"Proceed!!" Fiona orders heartlessly.

Hazel's head was placed upon the stunt as the head guard held on to the sword.

Hazel closes her eyes, already accepting her cruel fate.

Just as the sword was raised, a voice suddenly rings out, making everywhere go still....
