CLARA
"Let her go." Rhys voice boomed as my eyes fluttered open in shock. Was he planning to do what I was thinking? No way!!
"Hand over the staff first." The wicked looking man holding on to me fired back and Rhys clenched his fist in anger.
"Let her go first and I promise to do as you say." Rhys mumbled, narrowing his gaze.
"Now, don't play on my intelligence, the staff first." He threatened, almost poking the knife into my throat as my breath hitched.
My eyes was glistening with tears as I gulped down nothing, awaiting my fate.
"The alpha isn't thinking of handing the staff over right?" I heard a voice mumble from amongst the pack members as some glared at me while others watched to know the outcome of the whole thing.
"Killian." Ryhs called out, without shifting his gaze from me. He whispered something into his ears as he bowed.
"Come with me!!" He ordered, referring to the man holding on to me and together, they snapped their fingers at once.
I found myself at the entrance of a vault, I was still held hostage and the sharp knife was still poking into my flesh.
Rhys stretched out his arms and a green transparent round ball appeared on his hands as he spinned it around until it began glowing that the bright light filled up the whole room.
I was marveled at the sight that for a moment, I forgot I was in a dangerous position right now.
The vault shook slowly as the doors opened and a staff came out, floating in the air under Ryh's control.
"Now let her go and you have this." Rhys mumbled, his gaze darkening in anger.
It seemed like an ancient staff. I had seen a painting of this back then at the museum with it's background history.
The hefty man laughed out darkly, his gaze solely fixed on the staff, floating in the air.
"Let me have it first." He muttered, clicking his tongue and eyeing the staff interestingly.
Rhys seemed to hesitate a bit and the man pushed in the knife further, earning me a slight cut as blood trickled out of it.
"Ouch!!" I gasped as Ryhs's eyes widened in shock.
"Don't you dare hurt her!!" He warned through gritted teeth.
"Hand it over now!!!" His voice boomed in rage and Ryhs let it float to his grasp and he smirked mischievously.
"Now...give her back to me." Rhys fired with a loud growl and he let out a cruel laughter.
"Your missy here scents so fresh, how about I have her for the night." He whisphered, sniffing me as I tried to wriggle out of his grip.
Rhys lost it at once as he charged at him, when he wasn't looking. Somehow, I got free from his grip as I fell to the floor, choking out as I held on to my neck.
Before Rhys could pounce on him, the man disappeared instantly with the staff as Rhys let out a loud growl before rushing towards me.
"Are you okay?" He asked worriedly, scanning me body for any sign of injuries.
I glanced at him in suprise. "Why did you give that to him?" I asked as he glanced back at me in suprise.
"I don't know how much that staffs means to the pack but I know it's something they hold dear to their heart. I understand you were trying to save my life and I'm grateful for that. But now, what might be the pack's members reaction regarding this?" I explained and he sighed out, ruffling his hair.
He obviously understood my point.
"Don't worry about that! I would handle it. Killian would lead you back to my suite, I need to head somewhere quick." He said assuring me as he rushed out in a haste.
Soon enough, Killian rushed in and I had to stop myself from asking if he was the real Killian, considering my ealier encounter with the fake one.
We walked out, passing through the town as they all glared at me, rage evident in their expressions as they mumured amongst themselves, sneering at me with twisted scowls on their faces.
"I can't believe he handed over the epitome of the pack's strength in his quest to save her." I heard a maiden mumble to another and as soon as our eyes met, she glared at me with a twisted scowl on her face.
I looked away instantly, I already presumed that this was going to happen. Where could Rhys have headed to?
"What happens to us now? The pack is no longer safe, the pack's glory has been lost, all because of this mere human who thinks she can manoeuver her way in here and become the Alpha's mate." Another maid said, twisting her tongue as she stared at me with utter digust.
"The elders would surely take action, they can't let this pass because the pack is about to suffer a cruel crisis all because of this mere human. How are we sure she isn't hypnotizing the alpha. He has gone against several principles of the pack all because of her." I heard an old fragile woman mumur to her granddaughter as my stomach tightened into a knot.
Why did he let go of the staff in his quest to save me? No doubt!! The staff meant a lot to the pack members, giving it out for my sake is surely going to make them despise me. I shook my head in regret, this wasn't the life I had drafted out on my arrival here. I wished I hadn't let myself drown into the heat of the moment and mated with the Alpha.
"I still wonder what the Alpha saw in her....I mean take a look at me....Am I not fit to become the Alpha's mate?" Another maiden said and I watched as the others laughed at her in mockery as her face squeezed into a contorted frown.
"Are you kidding? Do you know how you look like? An hyena is ten times prettier than you. We all don't stand a chance to become the Alpha's mate." The maid said as the rest burst into fits of laughter.
"I'm just waiting for the return of Princess Elena, she's going to put this mere human back in her place." Another maid muttered cruelly, sneering at me and I swallowed a huge lump in my throat.
Who was this Princess Elena she was referring to?
