Chapter 9 Bitter sweet

Finally Sunday was here.

Everyone was ready for the service.

They carried their hymn books, Bibles and note books according to what their principal had ordered them.

The teachers living in the teachers' quarters were always welcomed to come for the service or go to their churches.

Tiana and Shasmi chose to be ushers in the church since they knew they would doze off so it was best they keep moving around waking up the others.

It was good to keep receiving the teachers coming and the guests they had every Sunday.

"I wonder if he will come. Why am i even longing for him to come? Anyway i love this watch he gave me. I will cherish it and keep it safe. I can't believe i was chatting with him just like i do with my friends. I mean he is my teacher but he was like a bestie last night" all these were Shasmi's thoughts as she carrassed the watch lovingly.

"Wow deskie, i've never seen this watch before. Where did you get it? Who gave it to you? Since when did you have it?" Asked Tiana looking at the watch.

"Its beautiful right?" Asked Shasmi

"Yes it is but who gave it to you?" Asked Tiana excitedly and then Shasmi realised she couldn't tell her that it was from Mr Archey.

Tiana would get angry since she liked Mr Archey.

She would think Shasmi was going behind her back and taking her man.

"I got it from snoopy dog" she said

"Snoopy what? Who is that?" Asked Tiana

"Thats just a friend i met on facebook" said Shasmi

"So how did you get it? Are you sure this is just a friend? This looks expensive" said Tiana looking at the watch.

"He sent it through Mr Archey. They are good friends" lied Shasmi

"So that's why he sat with you last night?" Asked Tiana

"Yes. He had brought it to me" said Shasmi

"So what's his real name?" Asked Tiana

"I can't tell you right now. But i will when the time comes" said Shasmi

"Oh wow! Look my crush is coming to church. Deskie i will be the one to welcome him. Grab him a seat next to ours at the back" said Tiana and rushed to welcome Mr Archey immediately she set eyes on him.

"Why do i find him to be more good looking today?" Shasmi asked herself thoughtfully in a smile as he looked at Mr Archey walking towards the church dressed in a white t-shirt, black jeans trouser, black cap and black sport shoes with white strips around them.

He was carrying his phone and a Bible.

The Principal was in the school prayer room at that moment while the students were singing hymns.

They all turned when Magdalene got carried away while leading the hymns and kept staring at Mr Archey.

"I smell a bomb and sooner or later, it will explode" said Phina to Melina whom they were sitting together.

"Why do you say so?" Asked Melina

"Last night, Mr Archey came to the comp lab and sat next to Shasmi. They were in whispers for a while. Shasmi had been gloomy for a while but after Mr Archey talked to her, she was all smiles. Then we saw her with this very expensive watch she's been putting on since morning. She keeps smiling while looking at it. What do you think?" Asked Phina gossiping in church.

"Well, i think Mr Archey gave it to her so where is the bomb?" Asked Melina not getting the point.

"Melina, who doesn't know that Tiana is crushing on Mr Archey? And now Mr Archey got Shasmi an expensive watch. I sense there is a love triangle somewhere" said Phina and some students were being nosy over her conversation with Melina.

"You are right bedii. But you know that these teachers have no lasting relationships and Shasmi believes in love alot. I dont think its love. Just a mere crush since Mr Archey is very handsome" said Melina

"You are right but Mr Archey seems to be a different man. Not the fuck and dump type" said Phina

"Lets not talk alot. Lets just watch the movie" said Melina and the girls gave a high five.

One of Magdalene's friend was listening and she swore to tell everything to Magdalene after church was over.

Tiana led Mr Archey to where they were sitting and gave him a chair.

"Excuse me ushers, teachers are not supposed to sit at the back. They should sit at the front" said Magdalene over the microphone and there was murmurs all over the place.

Mr Archey kept sitting where he was as if he heard nothing from her.

Mr Osanzi later joined them and sat next to Mr Archey.

Shasmi had to give out her chair and she sat somewhere else.

During the service all through, the two kept stealing glances and Osanzi was careful not to miss anything.

"I just have my eyes on the look right now but soon, i will open my mouth and say, i told you" said Mr Osanzi thoughtfully and smiled.

Tiana was the happiest to be sitting next to Mr Archey.

Actually Mr Osanzi was Shasmi's geography teacher.

They got along too since Shasmi was the best student in Geography.

He knew Shasmi was among the good girls even though she was the strong type.

No one would easily bully her since she was the fight back type.

She wouldn't stay quiet and watch injustice happen.

And one most important thing, she spoke her heart and did whatever it assigned her to do.

"Why do i keep looking at her?" Asked Mr Archey to himself.

He tried all he could to stop looking at her but each time his mind ran back to their texts the previous night and he couldn't stop looking at her.
