Chapter 5 Bitter sweet

Everyone had assembled at the assembly ground ready for the devotion.

Even the teachers that were on night duty were there.

"Lets all welcome Shasmina Richard to lead us in praise and worship" said the Chairlady broadly and there were whispers all over the place.

👩what? Shasmina? Can she really sing

👩i know Magdalene did it on purpose. You know she dislikes Shasmi

👩but why does she hate her so much?

👩i also don't know but you know Shasmi is cuter than her so i guess if not a boyfriend issue, its a nature issue

They were all murmuring and laughing but when Shasmi started singing, they all went silent.

"Mighty man of war, lion of Judah. We bow down and worship you. Yahweh Yahweh, come and do what only you can do, mighty man of war.... " she started and they all followed singing you are mighty man of war by Jimmy D psalmist.

Mr Archey who was sitting in the English department along with a fellow new teacher who was his best buddy, Mr Osanzi, heard the voice and quickly got out.

My Osanzi followed and the two teachers stood looking at the girl with the angelic voice leading that day.

Even the muslim students came out of the class just to see who was singing.

That day, the evening devotion had a different vibe.

It was not boring, no one dozzed off.

They even wanted her to sing some more.

She brought out a good vibe, singing and asking them to dance along with her during the praise session.

Magdalene was the pained one but she still enjoyed the moment.

The Principal never came for evening devotions so she missed that blessed moment.

They said as Shasmi was heading back to class for the night prep.

"Class, did you know we had a singer" asked a girl called Blessing

"Bibs shut up its prep time" said Shasmi to Blessing.

They were good friends and they used to call each other bibs.

There was a reason they called each other that way but some people mistook them for lesbians though they did not care.

"In law, is that how you sing for my son every night? Now i know why he likes you" said another girl called Gabriella.

In law was a word that most friends in school called each other.

Some were really in laws while some used it as a joke.

Just like Gabriella and Shasmi, they used it as a playful name.

"You know in law, its the only way i captured him. So if i leave him, who will sing for him again?" Asked Shasmi and they both laughed.

"Class, ACP Ombati is coming. Curfew has began!" Shouted another girl who was short in nature ,called Phina.

She was the shortest girl in that class and very stubborn.

All the students jumped into their seats quickly and brought out books to pretend to read.

Mr vincent Ombati was a very strict teacher in the school.

He taught Biology and agriculture and he was the class teacher form three west.

He was the enemy teacher of form three central.

He hated the class and the class hated him back.

He was happy whenever they were in a punishment and they were happy when he found no one to punish.

Mr Ombati got in their class and started passing in between the desks just to see if they were really reading.

He reached at the back bench where Shasmi and Tiana sat at the corner of the classroom in their desks.

"So you are the two bestfriends. You also sit together. Do you really read? I will ask your class teacher to separate you. You can't sit together you won't read" said the teacher

"We are reading sir" said Shasmi courageously.

As this was happening, Mr Archey was passing through their class corridor and he stopped to look at what was happening at the other end.

"Did you just talk back? You said you reading. I'm going to ask you 2 questions from this page that you have opened. If you fail to answer them correctly young girl, you are in for it" said Mr Ombati who picked up the book and saw that she was reading Geography, the forests topic.

Before he could ask, Mr Archey knocked on the door.

"Oh sir, what is it?" Asked Mr Ombati dropping the book back.

"I'm here for Shasmi and Tiana" said Mr Archey

"Did they do anything wrong?" He asked

"Not at all. They wanted tutoring on chemistry so i came to get them. Grab your books and follow me to the library" said Mr Archey and the girls knew he was there to save them so they quickly left the class along with Mr Archey.

Mr Ombati was left in class feeling angry that they got saved.

The rest of the students wanted to laugh at him but they held it in until they saw him disappear towards the maths department which was far from their class.

"Guys, i think we found a favourite teacher" said Phina

"Mr Archeyyyy" they said in unison but in low tones.

"Ah class, he can't punish anyone in this class. He will have to face all of us. Anyway thanks to Mr Archey they got saved" said another girl called Melina.

She was the tallest and strongest girl in the class.

The class was the most notorious but the most united class ever except for some few girls whom the class called holy joh.

When it came to love, unity and standing out for one another, three central was known for that.
