Chapter 7 Lunch break

Christie's gaze softened, she didn't realize she had been glaring at him.

"No sir, I wasn't glaring at you. I was glaring at my clumsiness. I'm really sorry sir," she quickly apologized.

There was silence. Then Alexa moved away from her and finally broke up the silence;

"Ask Brenda to see me at my office immediately. We need a new team leader for the production team," he told, as he continued to walking.

"Okay sir," Christie replied and continued trailing behind him again, but more cautiously this time. She doesn't want to get fired at the first day and ruin her plans.

...

It was finally her lunch break, Christie was so happy she could finally get away from that overbearing man, even if it's just for a few minutes.

But she celebrated too early, because Alexa walked out of his office just when she was about to leave for the company's cafeteria and he stopped her.

"A lunch meeting just came up, so let's go." he informed and started walking away without waiting for her response, not like he cares what she would say because she doesn't have a choice but to follow him as his secretary and PA.

'A lunch meeting?!' Christie rambled in her head. Why did the universe have to bring a lunch meeting out of nowhere? Which of her crimes' repercussion is catching up to her?

They got to the five star restaurant which the meeting was to be held.

Christie stood close to Alexa, for hours and watched as he sat down with his investors and enjoyed their lunch while discussing about the reason the meeting was held out of schedule.

Christie's stomach was just grumbling, she hasn't eaten anything since morning and seeing all the delicious meals that Alexa and his investors were having, wasn't helping her at all.

Because she stood close to Alexa, he could clearly hear the grumbling of her stomach yet he was unfazed.

Christie bit her lower lip, she knew he could hear it. That's it...this man was so cruel- A total sadist!

It was nine pm when she got home that day.

There was no one at home. 'That girl must be out clubbing by now,' she thought, referring to Katie.

She was exhausted, that man had made her work all day and till late before she was able to go home. The scumbag was a total workaholic.

It was just the first day yet she was already starting to regret being Alexa Vistlon's secretary and PA. She was supposed to make them suffer, why is it the other way round. It was as if he was adding to the suffering she was already experiencing thanks to them.

If not for her strong resolve for revenge, she would have given up. But it wouldn't be too long before she will give them a taste of their own medicine.

The man was mercilessly overworking her and he scolded her at the slightest mistake. Maybe this was the reason his previous secretaries and PAs had quit or maybe they were fired heartlessly when he gets tired of them.

She pulled off her heels, her feet were aching. She stood and walked more the entire day, the man was a vampire in human form or a modern day vampire. He didn't get tired and he didn't care whether the people around him was.

She quickly undressed, too tired to prepare something for herself to eat even though she was hungry, she can't believe she hasn't eaten anything since the dawn of day.

She hated the man more, the more she spent time with him.

She just went to her room to freshen up.

She came out of the bathroom with just her towel robe wrapped around her and another towel holding her brown hair upwards as it dried it up.

She saw that her phone which she clicked lock was showing light. She must have gotten a text or something. She collected it from the bed which she had threw it on and she checked it, it was a missed call.

A missed call from Brian.

She called him back.

{Hello Christie} She heard him say.

"Hello,"

{So how did it go today?}

"It went well. But that Alexa Vistlon is a serious workaholic," she whined. She could hear him chuckle at the other end.

{You have to be careful now more than ever. You are in the enemy's territory now and this is just the beginning}

"Don't worry. I will be careful," she replied.

She can't mess up now, she has planned this for the past five years since she found out that the Vistlons were responsible for her father's death and the mysterious bankruptcy.

She has carefully planned on how she was going to take them down and everyone else involved, paternal family or not. At the moment she will lay low and analyze her foes carefully, know their strengths and weaknesses and exactly how capable and powerful they can be.

{Good, I'll give you a call tomorrow. Goodnight}

And the call ended.

She got dressed and slumped on her bed. Tomorrow was going to be more hectic, she had studied and prepared tomorrow's schedules for Alexa Vistlon.

She soon gave up to the darkness in her trails of thoughts.

~The next day...

Christie had just finished dressing up.

'Maybe she will skip breakfast today,' she thought as she locks the door to her room. She didn't want to be late as Alexa had a serious policy against lateness and she was already almost late.

She walked towards the sitting room where she found Katie, sleeping like a log on one of the couches.

Christie shook her head, 'This rich brat!'

"Katie, Katie?!" Christie called as she wakes her up.

"Uh, uh...what?" Katie responded drowsily.

"I'm off to work," Christie informed.

"W-What work?" Katie questioned.

"I got the job remember, geez girl," Christie replied.

"Oh, urgh but was that why you woke me up?!" Katie groaned.

"Geez, when did you even come back home last night? You reek of alcohol. Get yourself a life," Christie chastised her.

"I'm already living the best of my life darling," Katie responded.

"You mean wasting the best time of your life," Christie corrected.

"Whatever. I have a hangover, so I can't argue you Christie, just act like I'm not here. I did promise not to distract or disturb you." Katie said as she slumped back on the couch.

"And you are not by doing this? Urgh, you are right, I don't have the leisure of time to waste on a stubborn hooligan like you," Christie replied and Katie chuckled.

"I need to get to work asap so bye," Christie added.

"Oh yeah, how was work yesterday?" Katie asked.

"Hectic," Christie replied as she headed for the door.

"Okay, good luck today. Bye," Katie continued.

"Bye,"

...

"What's my schedule for today?" Alexa asked as Christie served him his coffee.

"You have a board meeting by nine, two more meetings after, a lunch meeting and a dinner meeting, all with potential investors for the new software projects," she stated.

He stood up without even having a sip from the coffee and he started walking away, so she followed him.

Where was he heading to? The meeting wasn't until nine.

Soon, they were outside the building. His car had already been brought to him by his driver and so, he got into the back seat.

"Get in," he said to her.

'Huh?' she thought but got into his car as well and his driver drove off immediately, with the both of them seated at the back seat of the car.

"Take me to the Vistlons' mansion," he announced.

"Okay, sir," the driver replied.

The Vistlons' mansion? That means she might get to meet the other Vistlons. She will get to finally meet the man who must have ordered his men to kill her father. Rex Vistlon, the man who caused her so many misfortunes.

Was all these happening faster than she had expected? Well, she was ready for anything.

They soon arrived at the Vistlon's mansion, it was a sight to behold.

She walked into the building with Alexa and they met his parents and sister who were still having breakfast.

"Alexa," Alice beamed and she got up to give her brother a hug. He hugged her back, her brothers rarely comes home these days, she kinda misses them.

Their eyes landed on Christie.

"And she is?" his mother decided to be the one to ask the question.

"Christie Brinkley, my new PA and secretary," he replied.

Christie eyes came in contact with that of Rex Vistlon as they locked gazes. His eyes bore into her, unrelenting. He also had that intoxicating aura as Alexa, in fact even more intoxicating.

This was him.

She was staring right into the eyes of the man that took away her life. The life she supposed to have had.
