She walked down the stairs, slowly.
Her eyes landed on two tall masked figures coming out of her parents' room. They spotted her and one of them pointed a gun at her. She froze in fear.
"Hey, hey...she's just a kid," the other masked figure intervened.
"So?" the one pointing a gun responded. They sounded like young boys, young mafia assassins.
"She will be around our age, you don't want to do this. She ain't our mission, we've done it. So let's get out of here," the other advised. The one pointing a gun at her nodded and so, they ran out with a laptop in their grasps.
She quickly dashed into her parents room. She was welcomed by the cries of her mother. The bed and her mother were bathed in the blood of her father.
Christie's hand went to her mouth, tears form in her eyes and it soon began to walk down majestically.
...
The next few months didn't go too well.
Her mother was accused of the murder by her in-laws, which were Christie's paternal family.
They never liked her mother from the beginning and never approved of the relationship and marriage between her parents.
It was discovered that on the same night of her father's death, huge funds were withdrew from the Lance's main accounts.
The accounts to which the funds were withdrew to were traced but the money was gone and they couldn't articulate the issue afterwards.
Her mother was accused of paying the assassins to assassinate her husband so she could obtain such a huge amount from the plot. The whole story didn't make any sense to Christie at all.
Her mother lost the case and was eventually sentenced to twenty seven years imprisonment.
After her mother was sent to prison, Christie's paternal family treated her in the worst possible way. They did fend for her but in a way she wished they didn't. She wished she had maternal relatives, maybe they'd have been much more better than these people that calls themselves her family.
They didn't even want to send her to college but wanted to marry her off to an old business tycoon. Christie just couldn't understand why her own blood relatives were treating her this way.
To add to her misfortunes, Christie received a sad news one day.
Her mother was killed in jail. She cried endlessly on the day she was told the news, she knew her paternal family could be responsible for it and everything that has been happening to her, all because of their hate for her mother.
Christie left the country without her family even knowing, talkless of approving. She left immediately she got a fully funded scholarship to study abroad and never made any effort in reconciling with her paternal family. On the contrary, she despises them.
As she was studying abroad, she was still carrying out her own investigations. She was working and schooling and so the money she got from working, she saved it up and when it was enough, she hired a private investigator and they both did a thorough background check on the case.
They were able to discover a lot of things. They discovered that the assassins that assassinated her father belonged to a mafia group, which could be traced back to the prestigious Vistlon family, who were secretly running the syndicate unknownly to the public because they were good in cleaning up their tracks.
Her paternal family were prominent suspects in the issue concerning her mother but she couldn't quite put the pieces together.
What was her father's relationship with the mafia family? If there wasn't any, why'd her paternal family hire the mafia assassins to kill their own blood?
The more she discovered, the more complicated it became. But one thing was for sure, the Vistlon family killed her father- Either to obtain his money which they did or to get back at him for something she was yet to know and her paternal family were involved one way or the other.
She's going to find it all out and she's going to make them all pay dearly.
"I'm going to make you all pay, especially the Vistlon family. For everything you took away from me and everything you've caused me. I'll take away everything away from you and I'll make sure you suffer ten times the fold of what you caused me. I'll cripple you and you'll forever regret what you all had made me go through," Christie had swore.
Years later after her studies, she came back to the country. She didn't bother to see her relatives, they never knew she travelled out of the country to study. They'd probably think she ran away from home after all of their maltreatments. They might even think she must be dead by now.
'How will she survive without us?' they must have cackled between themselves.
She trained to become a con artist. One reason was because it was the easiest life to choose in order to get access to her enemies. She has been preparing for this for years now and she was going to take her precious time in planning it meticulously.
It doesn't matter how long it takes, as long as it becomes successful, it will be worth the wait.
It wasn't easy as she was training to become a con artist because she was all alone and did it all alone but eventually, she got more skilled and missions were just rushing in.
She took the alias deadly whisper, because her clients usually say she was a silent one yet deadly and she soon became popular.
But the more she became popular, the higher she climbed the rank of the wanted list of both the authorities and people who just hated her for one reason or another.
And that was why she had always wore a mask from the beginning, so she could still lead a normal life outside the job.
But she never expected to get caught today.
"Ah, F*ck!" she exclaims, finally submitting to the darkness as the police or whoever they were, surrounded her.
